Jett is obviously not in top form, but I thought it was interesting JS7 speaking on how Jett maybe riding the fastest he’s ever ridden due to Hunter now. I can see that. If Hunter was wasn’t in the picture Jett would be rabbit hopping his way around the track crushing the competition.
I think it is amazing what we are witnessing between the brothers.
I think that it’s just JS going out of his own way to create some ”tv drama” just like when they hype up Deegan every race and said that we should NEVER count out Tomac out of this race before moto 1.
There is enough proof out there with Jetts speed advantage over a few laps that Hunter has not raised Jetts bar. I will say that Hunter has risen his own bar quite a bit, but saying that Jett is riding as good as he always has is pure ignorance from JS side.
Jett by 30 secs next 6 races. He mad now.
Here’s my theory, for what it’s worth.
I think Jett can still do Jett things, but he struggles to consistently go as fast as he wants to go due to his ankle changing how he has to ride.
Meanwhile Hunter has grown into his potential and is a true threat to win every time he’s on the gate.
Jett knows that with Hunter, protecting a small lead is no longer good enough, because big bro is always stronger towards the end of the race. This is leading Jett to push earlier to get a gap larger than what he was previously comfortable with. That pushing, combined with not riding so much due to the ankle, and said ankle impacting his technique, is producing the mistakes.
Hunter has closed the gap and Jett is having to lift his pace, it’s intriguing to watch, but fastest ever Jett? I doubt it, but who knows, it’s not a scenario we’ve ever seen before.
Yeah I dont think this is the best Jett we've ever seen. I think it's pretty simple.
Jett has lost abit. Hunter has gained abit. Now they're closer than ever. Jetts pushing harder because of this and is making mistakes.

Hunter has made some serious progress in the past year or so. If he didnt elevate his riding this would be a snoozefest watching jett smoke everyone, at less than 100% health
Supercross this year changed Hunter. I didn’t used to be a big hunter guy, but the way he handled himself in supercross made me a fan. I think hunters speed is the reason we are seeing Jett make so many mistakes. His ankle definitely isn’t helping, but if Hunter hadn’t risen up I don’t think we would be seeing him crash so much.
For sure. I dont know how you could draw any other conclusion. The dude has barely been able to ride other than race day. Yes, Hunter has absolutely gotten better. But '25 Jett would in the driver's seat for the his title easy
I agree with Whiskey that while I wasn't a fan of Hunters, his SX season was unreal. From never winning a 450 SX race, to winning all the time and being in the title fight into the last round, had me watching him more. I rooted for Kenny, but Hunter is humble to a fault. Even saying his 4th place start in moto 1 at Shougal was a "bad" start.
The guy is humble and very well spoken. He never has a bad or awkward interview. He's likable, possibly the fastest rider in the country right now, and has been extremely durable this season. How many riders can say they've raced as many laps as Hunter this SX and MX season. Probably none. That's huge
Exactly, I think we're now seeing 100% effort to achieve the same speed as his usual 80-90% effort was giving before.
This is it.
Hunter has stepped up his game. Conversely, Jett is trying to do full fit Jett things and he can't right now, leading to mistakes. No one is in his head but himself, purely because he's unable to ride like he knows he can. It should be a scary thought for anyone not named Lawrence on a Honda that he's riding at 70% and still the best rider out there.
I don’t think it’s all the ankle. Jett can no longer ride at 80% and maintain a 2-3 sec gap. He has to go 100% to get past or get away from his brother and he crashes more at that pace. I don’t see the Millville or Washougal crashes as ankle related. Perhaps going off the track was ankle related bike control, drifted right up horsepower hill.
I think if all he had to do was stay 2-3 seconds stay ahead of Deegan he’d crash less.
Hunter has upped his game and is riding super fast, but if jett werent injured it wouldnt be anything he cant handle. The fact that jett is able to go as fast as hunter is right now on one foot is incredible.
The fact jett is as fast as he is right now is crazy when he cant use the rear brake without taking his foot off the peg, cant weight the outside peg and brake at the same time, cant do proper trail braking, and has to ride on the arch of his foot on one side of the bike throwing his balance off. Being as fast as he is right now when he has to ride completely jacked up and cant do half the things he needs to do is crazy.
Arent Jet and Huntah interested in doing MXGP? I understand the AMA series is as big as the World Series but hey, why not to become World Champ?
Ahh theres the money side too. MXGP doesnt pay, right? Eh... thats probably the reason even the europeans go to america
For anyone paying closer attention, a message was sent to everyone in the dying laps of moto 2 at Washougal, and before he crashed in moto 2 at Milville.
Pay attention also to the growing gap to 3rd place more often than not. Without Hunter's rise, Jett is on cruise control the way he always has been, happily managing his leads like yesteryear.
To think of how long Jett has had off the bike. He’s still managing the injury, only really riding the weekends. It’s pretty incredible to think of the pace and level he is riding at. The gap they had over the others in moto 1 (+ every race this year) is just incredible. They are on a complete other level. Hunter is really exploiting Jett’s weakness. Such an enjoyable series to watch.
The downside is the depth in the class. Gosh, all the big name guys are so far off minus Haiden. Really need some new life in the class.
I wouldn't say he's riding the fastest he ever has, but considering his injury he is probably riding at 100-105% of his current abilities.
I think in previous years, fully fit, he could ride at 90% and be the fastest.
Old Jett used to get into the lead and keep a 2.5 second cushion over 2nd. Considering the talent gap between himself and his peers in years past, that worked. If the 2.5 seconds came under threat, he’d just bunnyhop and ballerina a bit more and stretch it back.
Those were the old days.
His older brother got tired of that crap and now, whoever is in front, has to ride for his life. Occasionally, one of them will get angry and make a push to the front but other times, he’ll just accept 2nd.
6 motos left. 12 point delta.
Watch the last few minutes of the 2nd moto at Washougal, and that will tell you everything you need to know.
Pit Row
Hunter’s last lap was 4 seconds off his previous pace. He was cruising it in.
Too many thumbs up on these comments for my liking
If Hunter wasn't around Jett would be hopping his way around the track crushing the competition with an injured foot. I think it's pretty incredible watching them elevate each other.
Spot on CPR!
This right here. Happens every week and always has. Everyone says someone had something amazing faster pace at the end over the leader, but don’t mention the leader let off at the end lol.
I wouldn't conjecture about Jett's speed until he can practice more than one day each week.
I think he's also referring to how much time Jett put on 3rd....it was something to behold live....
Imagine if Jett wins each of the next four motos while Hunter takes seconds. They enter the final round tied in points and overall victories.
100% - u called it. AGREE
Conversely if Hunter gets an overall (2/1 to Jett's 1/2) in the next race then all he has to do is finish behind his bro and in the last two races.
I wonder if Jett would play games with Hunter and let Deegan get ahead of him (assuming Hunter is behind Jett) until the last lap. That would be some interesting dinner conversation at the Lawrence household.
Like in Supercross, I sure as hell don't want Hunter to lose this in the last race. Twice in one year would be a heartbreaking.
Little bit of hunter getting faster.
Little bit of jett having to adjust his riding and not as much seat time.
Little bit of them both quietly trying to stick it to #38.
Even if jett was healthy I think in any given moto hunter would be all over him. They are hauling serious ass.
This is crazy talk, If Jett can't win the title fairly, he ain't about to disrespect his brother with stupid games, he would more likely congradulate Hunter on a well fought Series with dignity and class.
Going to be interesting. Dilla is a toss between the two. Budds I lean hunters way, Ironman i think Jett’s way. Fun to watch
Post a reply to: JS7: Hunter has closed the gap and Jett is trying to outjet his own pace
