Shortening Outdoor Motos/Program

They already did, many years ago.  Ask the Pros about 45 minute + 2 laps in the '70's and '80's.

I think shortened motos and bring back the Friday program would be great for all involved.

Yeah times change and 45 mins is insane. I think its fine right now. Its a war out there for 30 mins + 2. If they changed it to 20 mins + 2, the only benefit is higher intensity, or riders trying to stay on the edge of disaster every single lap. Sounds good on paper, but you'd definitely see more crashes IRL.

How about less races on the schedule? I love how long the motos are. Gives more time for the cream to rise to the top 

3 motos each would be good considering starts are the most important aspect.

I really didn’t like hearing this talked about in their show earlier this week. They were discussing it like it was something everyone has been talking about for a while which surprised me because I haven’t heard anything about shortening motos. I’m guessing this is something that has been discussed in meetings with NBC for a while and the way RC and RV were talking about it…sounds like it is more likely than not to happen. I’ll be let down if we go to 20min + 2 laps. I’ll still watch but I think it sucks. 

As an aside, IF the motos do get shortened we absolutely positively HAVE TO get rid of metal grates and starting devices. The starts are already important, shorter motos would make them even more important and it should be 100% rider skill with no mechanical aide.

Please stop telling us we need to change Outdoor Motocross in order to make “good T.V.”

It’s likely a done deal.  Sounds like NBC wants it and MX Sports will give them what they want.  Gotta grow the sport ya know.  Screw the history and tradition of motocross.  🤦🏼‍♂️

Most people claiming this I would call BS. However, this coming from you…I totally believe it. You should head up the committee to petition this. You have the most experience advocating for it.

might as well Make it 4 lap races to resemble our amateur series.

It’s sad because I’m a mega fan, but ama treats us like we’re morons. Terrible production, terrible segments, talk to us like we never watched the sport before, show us what year offs are every time it’s muddy, tell us what the brake pedal does and how to press it.

Hell to the naw naw.  Fitness and equipment has to play a part in the outdoors.

The ONLY way I'd consider it is if we added another moto...but that would effectively lengthen the program and make it even harder for the casual fan to understand.

Might consider it IF we add a 125 class to every outdoor round and give them 2 full length motos during the program.

Otherwise, this is just the continued shitification of the outdoors.

20 min motos ?

Aldon Baker just updated his LinkedIn profile to “actively seeking new position”. 

They did three motos in GP's one year I think. Shorter motos. And I did not like it at all. It might make good tv, but as a spectator at the track I want to see longer races and not races very start dependant. You are just waiting during the breaks between the races, and before you know it the next race is over when you are fetching another beer ;-). 

Our nationals are 25 minutes and two rounds and that is the absolute minimum. I rather prefer the old 40 minutes motos.

(And while I am talking about the good old days. Bring back real mx tracks)

Plus the fact that we would just get killed worse at the desNations. 

Never understand the fitting into a time slot when the races are on a streaming service? The stream isn’t blocking something else from showing up. Make the day longer by adding the futures, women’s or 125ex…you can fit it in the stream…

So much can happen in the last 10 minutes. This is an awful idea.

RV agrees to anything that anybody says. 
The 70’s and early 80’s, those guys were made of iron. This was before water even existed. 
And time slots? Watch 6 hours of golf on tv.  Its such a fast paced sport that I have a hard time keeping up. 
 

RC was spouting some data that essentially nothing happens with the top 3 in the last 10 min. I couldn’t believe it but I also didn’t dig through the data. I would love to see the Lawrence brothers fight this by planning a couple of late laps where they just pass each other back forth like 20 times just to skew that point.

Can't believe what I just watched, man. Ricky shilling hard for NBC and acting like it's inevitable, like this just needs to happen... dude, respectfully, shut the fuck up. We don't need to cave to the needs of the TikTok generation and shorten the races, I can't believe this take is coming from the GOAT himself. 

But hey, fuck it, while we're at it, let's end baseball games after 6 innings. Make football games three periods like hockey. Can't wait to watch the Daytona 300 next year, or the Nurburgring 18 Hours.
