Southwick was the most dangerous track ever this weekend

What you guys think? Because it was so smooth and fast everyone crashed. I always thought a smoother track might make for better racing. Boy was I wrong. Yes James said a hundred times it had some sand over the top of a hard base which made it slippery. But you can't deny , have we ever seen a weekend with so many bad crashes?

Over this weekend? What other tracks are you comparing it to that raced this weekend???

All sand tracks start out butter smooth and become rougher and rougher with rolling woops throughout the day. Its not SX style hardpack woops they are a different animal to pound through

That and the trend is to make the tracks faster.

Every corner is a sweeping banked turn.

Hardly any tight 180 turns anymore.

Lap times get shorter, tracks get turned into layouts that they could pave and use for roadracing.

Look at redbud.

Look at ironman.

Whole sections have been eliminated from what they used 10 years ago.

They even talked about the changes at southwick at the start of the show, and how it was going to mean higher speeds.

They were right

Making all the tracks too fast. They act like this is road racing by taking any tighter sections out and opening everything up to sweeping turns.

It’s because I was there. Every time I go to a race, something happens that’s not the norm.

Its Been long ago that I was last at Southwick where a couple of the 3 digit locals like Henry and Dowd were mixing it up with the top 5 but weren’t the hills steeper with a couple more up and down U turns?

Or has the sand just been washing down over the years so the angles simply aren’t as steep ?

It looked like a lot of people downplayed the course being sandy and put too much trust in the front. A lot of people put too much weight on the front and went for a ride.

In my opinion the changes they have made to the track have made it suck. It is nothing but a super highway now with minimal technicality, which penalizes mistakes very heavily.

The pit board straight used to be faster than it is now.

Nothing about that track was smooth.

It was a cobby, nasty, and evil...in other words it was a perfect MX track.

What they have done to Ironman is a borderline war crime.

At least this weekend wasn't another cookie cutter rut-o-cross track

They should not rip Unadilla whatsoever. Just race on what's there.

Sand is just like racing a mud race where mistakes happen often and the outcome is often unpredictable.

Yes - tracks are too open and too fast this year. Makes it very hard to pass, and removes the fun technical aspect of watching.

Your wrong. Obviously you haven't watched southwick for more than a year. Or ever rode a dirt bike. That track , being a sand track that's suppose to get rough as the day goes on , well it just didn't.

They don't rip supercross 2ft deep and leave racers with massive slots down straights, around corners and up the faces of jumps

Every freakin' track is the same.. sink it deep because god forbid we race on hardpack.. which southwick wasn't far from in some of the straights honestly.

My heart was racing the second half of the 450 moto. They were pushing eachother and the track had been biting ppl all day. I was just waiting for something else bad to happen. Thankfully hunters crash wasnt bad and hes ok. Jett dropped his lap by 4 seconds the lap he passed deegan, but you could tell the second moto the track only allowed you to go so fast. After hunter went down he backed it off and cruised it home.

Yea,  it did.  Clearly you dont know what you're looking at.    You think the guys made all those mistakes because it was smooth?

It's not the track .... It's Mercury Retrograde! All the weird and craziest accidents happen during these periods.

Southwick close to hardpack? They have open practice there all the time. Feel free to go and give it a shot and post a review.

A motocross track is an inanimate object with no ability to think or reason.  How can it be dangerous?

A hot stove is an inanimate object with no ability to think or reason. How can it be dangerous to small children?
