I did hear Darren say that in an interview a while ago and was selfishly hoping he didn't mean des Nations.. Sucks for Aus but we're sick of winning now be good to give another country a chance haha We can probably still win with Beaton Webster and Minear..

The old 'B team' chestnut

I think this was expected, they hinted this already last fall when their schedule was packed. And i think this is a good move, they need some rest.

Why can't I choose to take a break from my full time job because I've been doing it for 6 years :'(

As far as MXoN goes, that's definitely a Jett-minded decision. CLEARLY dude needs to heal that foot.

Without Jett, Australia's chance at winning MXoN are very low, so it's a good reason for Hunter to take a break as well.

SX, MX, SMX are brutal. Taking a break will only refresh and extend their careers. Good move.

As an Aussie, I don't have a problem with it, they could use a longer off season, they've done us all proud the last 2 years, enjoy it boys.

I didn’t think it included MXdN, but all good if it does, they deserve it.
On the plus side, it’d be a good opportunity for the Aussie team to blood some young riders at Nations with no pressure, or a Webster, Beaton, Cannon team would still be solid.

That was my thought on a team aswell, Beaton and Cannon have Euro experience already and Webster has that MXON experience

Not surprised. They're off season schedule has always seemed excessively busy to me.

And if his boss and the rest of the team would like a break as well.

I’m actually hoping that does happen, would be cool.

The SMX Final race is on September 27th.

MXdN is on October 4th.

So, a week on the bikes extra.

I wonder if there will be backlash similar to what went on with Deegan ( and other American riders, over the years that turned down MXdN participation) not doing an extra week of racing?

They can do want they want, I myself don't really care, but I'd be surprised if there is not a bit of 'Dummy Spitting' over this, by some rabid fans.

Deegan has skipped it every year, granted one year due to a self inflicted medical problem, and his fans still love him. Guessing the Lawrence bros will survive this

Big difference between having a break after cleaning up for a couple of years and using excuses to avoid going at all.

Plus the turn around to get to the overseas event after an insane 3 week long stressload and decompression (on top of the entire season) plus the entire team operation to make it happen.

One week is between SMX final and MXdN is silly actually. Has it been the same in the past?

As a non-Aussie, I think anyone who saw their schedule last year will be ok with it. They both came back from pretty gnarly injuries then raced 16-17  races (outdoors, MXdN, a handful of AusX races, and two nights at Bercy) to end the year. Figure in all the travel and that’s a full schedule.

Soul Indigo : "One week is between SMX final and MXdN is silly actually. Has it been the same in the past?"

It's varied over the years .

A common complaint ( for many years, If I recall correctly) was with the gap that would often be between the end of the US Nationals and the MXdN  - that riders would have to keep training / not get as long a break as Non Attendees.

Now, I'd say some will complain about there being No Gap.

Hey, this year there's a 2 week gap from the end of the GPs, to the MXdN. So, perhaps 'that' side of it could be thrown into that argument. Plus, that the GP riders have had Turkiye, China , then OZ travelling at the end.

Ether  /  Either , Tomato / Tomatoe - there'll ever be bitching and excuses that some can choose to 'latch' onto.

No doubt.

1 week seems short. 4-5 weeks seems long.

2 weeks is probably the best.

Consistency is probably extra best.

Exactly. As a huge fan of that race its a bummer. It really is probably the singular biggest race of the year for me. But I completely understand from a health standpoint of Jett and I'm glad he'll be taking the time to heal up

MXoN is a bit of a bummer but the international supercross rounds are completely meaningless.  They’ve earned the privilege of taking the offseason off.  Good for them.

I'm gutted, not being in the US us Euro's love the rare opportunities to see these guys ride. The Jett vs Gasjer battle at Matterly was epic.

But I do respect their decision, their calendar is long, and with lingering injuries some extra time off is no doubt best for Jett.

Your job doesn't probably risk you breaking every bone in your body on a regular basis. The Lawrence's may work more hours than you, or at least most people, as well I would think.

Difference is they announce their absence 4 months in advance.

Mxdn needs to be every 2 or 3 years so it has my hype and meaning

Yeah nah piss poor I reckon.. it’s 1 extra week, Aussie has a 2-year streak going. Whilst healthy and able, just run the extra week. Next year isn’t a given, shit happens. I fully understand the need for a break and taking off the other off season races though. C’mon, Aussies wanna see the 3-peat!

I was initially bummed but I respect the decision and the fact that they announced it so early.

Is motocross the only occupation where injuries occur?

They will be back for MXON in 2027 to race for USA as they will be US citizens by then.   Roczen will be 3rd USA rider is in his retirement ride.  To make it even more epic, Chad Reed will take over the reins from Roger DeCoster as Team USA manager.    STAMP IT !!!!

Only bitter Aussies will touch that down vote.   😘
