Gents, at GH, can you tell me a little bit about the history of the tracks and layout?
Obviously they have the national track and a vet track. They have some options to make a few variatins of the layout. The top of the hill is probably pro only? Also an off road truck course?
The property has 1-2 private SX tracks?
What is or was the REM track?
For the recent off road race did they just run the main track, vet track, and hills all together for a loop?
Thanks for the help, just curious that's all.
Commenting so I get notifications, I'd love to hear about this too.
The REM track is the vet track. Even for amateur races, they sometimes combine the REM and main track.
Thanks man.
The Arroyo track is just the "vet" track right?
Was the REM track the same as the vet track or a combo with the main track but a very natural overall layout?
Do they NOT do REM races anymore? Seems like it would be great for vet type guys just to moto on a good natural type track Saturday mornings and then get on with their day?
Ahh, gotcha.

I believe the ‘Vet’ track (what was the ‘REM’ track) is the site of the original ’Arroyo Cycle Park’ track from the seventies.
REM ceased to be a thing when promoter Frank Thomason retired.
‘Saturday at the Glen’ is the reincarnation of REM with a new promoter.
Regular GH riders please correct me.
So is Saturday at the Glen races on the main track, vet track or combo?
I think it's cool that area has a big market and can just have Saturday morning races for regular guys to get their moto fix. Doesn't mean it has to be crazy competitive or pro only. Just racing.
Pretty sure they’re on the REM track lol I think of the name as REM over VET track
I wasn't sure if back when they raced REM and MXA covered it that it was a really wide hilly natural track perhaps in a "different" location than the main track and vet track but did not know.
Thanks for the info, now I understand.
The 2 Supercross tracks above the entrance are leased by Pro Circuit, Mitch has had those two for a long time now.
Classic place!!
They’re on both. This Saturday at the Glen is on the national track. Then there’s an SRA GP Sunday which will go national track then off road section, over to the vet track (REM/Arroyo) then head down to the truck track area. Sometimes we go on the truck track, sometimes we go like around it. There are some sand washes over there that are sick.
the big hill is open quite a bit. They route it differently all the time. Sometimes we hit the first hill & when you turn right just head to the top, instead of turning back down. It’s different all the time which is cool. Hills are open just routed differently.
I used to occasionally race REM back in the ‘00s. Everything about it was laid back. Somehow they were able to get in practice and all motos and be done for the day by the early afternoon. The track was challenging without being frightening and the turnout of famous fast old guys was remarkable. I got my doors blown off by more 60 and 70 year old dudes than I care to remember! They all seemed to be on electric start pumpkins!
Do they still actively use them? It was looking pretty overgrown the last few races I've been out at GH for(2 stroke natty, Blu Cru, Motofest)

Yes, they use the bottom one a lot. Top is usually only used when it rains.

Most of the time the REM/Vet/Arroyo track is a stand alone layout that has some cool up hill down hill sections of its own that can be steep depending on how they route it. Think of a smaller version of the National Track. Sometimes for bigger races they will run the National track and cross over the hill and run some of the vet track then back across to the National track to increase lap times and as NickNak said for off-road and say Day in the dirt they include lots of other off road terrain to make really long lap times an it not just be motocross.
There is not a single time that I have been there that either track, vet/Rem/Arroyo and National have had the same layout as the last time I was there. Always different hills included or excluded or infield sections changed or re routed and jumps moved or changed. It’s a very versatile place that you can choose where to ride. There is another track but don’t know what it’s called but have only seen micro minis, pit bike and surrons on as well as running scrambles/vintage races on the truck track.
Blue lines are typical the connection point when they combine the National track and the Vet/REM/Arroyo. For the longer GPs they include a lot of what you see on the property.

Does anyone know on Saturday if the vet track will be open to ride if they are holding a race on the national track? I was thinking of heading there, first time riding in 6 years!
“Somehow they were able to get in practice and all motos and be done for the day by the early afternoon.“
When you limit all the classes to 6 motos or so it makes it (i) short day and (ii) fuller gates. Best run program in SoCal when it was around.
there is a Vintage MX club that's been racing the REM/VET track for years on selected Saturdays. The club is called ARX (American Retrocross) and was previously SVRG. See website linked below. There was another Vintage club that raced the course inside the truck track and built by Gary Jones. Not sure if they are promoting races anymore?

Good comments on here. What a great gathering place of all things moto. So much variety and open all the time. Real motocross!
There’s also miles of single track in the hills above both tracks going all the way back to the 15 fwy/ amphitheater that get used for off road races. I’ve even raced on the CHP road course that is out past the truck track during a 24hr of Glen Helen. They also hosted a hard enduro for years there, probably the steepest hills I’ve ever gone down were in the hills of Glen Helen.
Pretty sure it will state that on the website/calendar. I have been there where a race was going on, on the National track and there was open practice on the vet but have also been there and it not. May want to give them a call. Have fun!

The old guys and the almost old guys have a race on the main June 14th. They’re a fairly low key fun group to race with. Usually 16-18 minute motos depending on the class. They have a support class too so you don’t need to be old.
Totally forgot to mention the ridges 🤣🤣 miles of ridges up on the mountain. There’s one above the hill then another on the other side above the truck track. These are used when it rains for GPs. They’ll run them for stuff like the endurance races too. 6-10-24 hour. the NGPC they typically rent these bad ass water trucks to run them for that too.
This Saturday yes. GH has a great Calendar on their website. Make sure to click calendar & not events. They keep it super updated.
Did he retire or was he "kicked out" by Bud Feldcamp? I know Frank is very respected within the community, but I recall hearing that he was basically kicked out and that Glen Helen was "taking over" his Saturday series?
