Not a deegan fan, but he will mature, if it’s a maturity issue. He’s making a lot of money for a lot of people. Their best interest is for him to not make stupid or immature decisions. You can bet that they are going to be in his ear about “race craft”. His games with Jo last year cost him $500,000 in the SMX championship.

He’s got talent, he’s fit, but that’s not enough in the 450 class. As others have stated, few 250 riders seem to be willing to go toe to toe with him on the track. In the 450 class that will probably not be the case. Only time will tell.He certainly adds interest to the class.

Although what’s up with the tongue thing on the podium? Gene Simmons wanna be?

His games with Jo did not cost him 500k.

Well $400k...

Could have been an epic battle to the finish if Deegan had just studied his opponent and raced him cleanly…he choose to play dirty and it cost him….even if he had finished a close 2nd, humility and respect go a long way in life……maybe even gain some fans….

Had he not played games with Jo and just won the race and Jo finished second he would not have won the championship or the 500k.

I’m not a Deegan fan. But I’ll give him credit any time a weakness has shown up in his riding and racing he has adapted and fixed it and continually became better and faster. I don’t see why this wouldn’t be the narrative moving forward.

I generally agree he has fixed almost every weakness except this one thing has been there for years. It cost him the smx title when he crashed out playin look back games with shimoda. Before that it caused drama with smith. For whatever reason whenever he gets caught his mind immediately stops racing forward and he worries about slowing down and messing with the guy behind him and it starts to screw his race up. Its been a thing for a while now.

Had Kitchen not cleaned him out I doubt he would have rode so desperately against Shimoda, but I still don’t support that way of riding.

I hope they have a full time sports psychologist on call for him. It will be a massive humble pie to eat. Fast? Sure. The hype is Alessi level on steroids.

I don’t think it’s anywhere near the Alessi hype. For one major reason. Alessi was coming from the amateurs where Danger Boy has a lot of wins totaling up there with the best to ever do it. And he has several championships and has nothing left to prove on the little bike , so to me it’s not Alessi hype because he’s a proven champion at the pro level. The hype though ,comes from fans of his but also fans who just wanna see close racing at the front. Someone to actually challenge a healthy Jett every weekend. We thought that was going to be Chase but he couldn’t stay upright a lot of the time and even when he was on two wheels , was just a click behind all the time. The hype/excitement for Danger Boy comes from the hope that he might be the man that can run with Jett and beat him. I hope Danger Boy can do it.

Pre-SMX 450 outdoors with everyone on the gate, I would have been worried for Deegan. I have to keep reminding myself this is a new era with a thinner 450 field for outdoors.

I think he will be top Yamaha. I think he will be a little  better than Marchbags. I don't think he will be as fast as Prado, Jett, Hunter, or Eli.. I think he will slot right in with Ferrandis and Plessinger. Maybe 5-8.  Maybe add Hombre to that 5-8 battle if he's good for outdoors.

There just isn't time for that in the 450s... if cringe lord slams Jett, then hunta, chase, and Kenny are long gone...

I can't recall Barcia ever taking himself out trying to take someone else out. Both with Jo and Davies it was the reverse takeout - take yourself out! If he's going to go BamBam at least get good at it.

3 time 450 Sx Champion Webb took himself out 2 out of the last 3 races.😂

They interviewed Deegs and Davies on post race show. Davies is very stoic and didnt care to get into any drama that JT was trying to initiate.
Deegs laughed it off, you could tell he was not happy to have Davies catch and pass him.
All good.   A little Humble pie for Deegs may be a bittersweet thing for him.

Deegan could very well win his first race or at least get a moto win.
Im not a fan of his off track antics but I guess he plays the villain role which always makes the banter fun.

Does that $100K include all the sponsorship money he cost himself?

Loved watching Deegs cook himself in his last 250 outing. Some of These 450 guys will keep him in the dirt if he rides that way with them.

Deegan was meant to struggle in AM ranks but he dominated because he came from money.

Deegan was meant to struggle when he turned pro.

Now hows going to struggle in 450s ? If you've paid attention to his career hes rose to the occasion every single time.

He may not ever beat Jett but boy he will die trying.

He will be in podium contention all season outdoors.

I think he will struggle to beat his team mate this season, J Coop is building. Hunter, Chase, Eli, Prado and Jett will be a level above

Can't compare Barcia and Deegan. Barcia is aggressive, Deegan is just defensive and not very good at neither to be honest.

As soon as Deegan has to ride defensive, he loses it. And he will have to do that a lot.

Wouldnt be surprised if he wins Pala, but he won't be able to go that all out pace for 22 Motos without big mistakes.

He'll be battling up front and I'm sure he's smart enough to know clown riding won't go well in the 450s ... The question is can he help himself.

I’m sure there are examples out there of Barcia going down while trying to pass someone.

You think 450 guys are gonna play around w/ that? Until he races FORWARD, he's going to find himself picking up his bike. A LOT.

I get why people say this but Haiden has improved in leaps each year he's been a pro. Last SX vs this SX is a perfect example of that. Given that I dont expect him to suddenly just stop progressing after moving up. I still expect he'll be top 3-5 in both SX and MX by the end of the season.

That said he (and every other top amateur/pro that moves up for the next 10-20 years) is going to be compared to Jett and its going to be nearly impossible to match what Jett did.

Do you boys think that Deeg will ever be treated like Ken was last night?  Kenny has a lot of friends, Deeg maybe not so much.

Horrible analogy.

Seems like a good question.

KR has built a tremendous amount of respect with his competitors. I was at the San Diego SX and when HD won, nearly everyone walked away from him, he was celebrating with a couple of family members and nobody else. Not that he needs the attention, he’s got money and family support. But what we saw for KR was truly incredible support from the entire racing industry..

And I fully expect HD to win a lot over the next 8-10 years..

Deegan has invited the Jett comparison. He's the one putting himself at that level. So any criticism he gets for failing to achieve at that same level is on him. Could have made life much easier on himself and just shown his elders the respect they deserve for having already done the thing he wants to do, but that's not the Deegan way.....

I'm mostly looking forward to the inevitable prado shenanigans. I don't think either of them will be able to resist engaging with the other on and off the track.

honestly the weakest point in his game is his ability to take people out.
