Hunter’s pass on Ken

Crazy to think Hunter’s pass on Ken that didn’t turn out as expected in Seattle may have been the defining moment in their run for the title in hindsight.

Hunter finished 4th that night and Ken 10th. Who thought at the time those guys would be one point separated going into the final round.

I was exactly thinking the same thing after watching tge main event last night. His kamikaze move definately paid off, lol.
I really hope Kenny brings this one home.

Agreed, thought the same thing watching the main. It would be a much different story if Hunter didn’t accidentally torpedo Kenny. Shitty, wish Kenny had a bigger lead but it is what it is. Praying to the Moto Gods that Ken gets the title.

to be honest it’s not even tht, really just a combination of alotta things but let’s be real , had hunter stayed up & got 2nd at Detroit, this shit wouldn’t be as close , but credit to Kenny tho cause he sure did capitalize on eli & hunter 2nd half of the season mistakes

Heck, after Seattle, who would have thought Eli would be completely out of the hunt going into the final round?

Have you factored in Ken jumping on the red cross flag with ET.

I like Kenny but needs to be fair for all.

While it’s true Ken would have a much bigger point lead if Hunter didn’t take him out,   Ken is going into the very last race with points lead if he doesn’t close the deal it’s not Hunter’s fault.

You can say the same about what if Kenny didn’t have that incident with AP. It’s all what ifs. Still been a crazy season. Stoked it’s coming down to the last race. Pretty much whoever finishes in front of the other is champion. I want Kenny but I like Hunter too. Fun time to be a fan.

Hunter may have won that race without the crash., or maybe not . He was fast and moving forward. Kenny was not going to factor in the win.

It's all speculative at this point.

I think the thread is postulated with the hypothetical that even had Hunter gone on to win, but hadn't taken out Ken, he could be farther behind in the points than he is currently.
The idea that Ken likely wouldn't have won in Seattle is already baked into the discussion.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts… Damon Bradshaw would have at one premiere Supercross Championship

Can’t wait for the final round!

Agree, but Suzuki's lack of e-start is a bigger factor in that race and the series.

After all the chaos of 16 rounds, Ken has the ability to take it. Let's not want the AMA to decide!

Kenny’s worst is still far better than Hunter’s worst this season

True but here’s a key piece of info - Hunter has more second place finishes.  They both have the same number of wins.  If they end up tied in points after SLC Hunter will take the title based on more second place finishes.

That’s exactly my point. Kenny’s results from A1 to Indy are what put him in this predicament, not a specific incident at a specific race. Likewise, Hunters nightmare 18th in Detroit is nullified considering his consistent finishes for most of the season.

since this is all hypothetical... Would be interesting to see the points if Kenny was docked for jumping the red cross flag with Coop & Tomac at Arlington.

One has to wonder how greasy Kenny is willing to get next weekend if the opportunity presents itself.

I'd take a Zach Osborne Savatgy last lap takeout with a smile on my face and a cheers to Roczen.

For Kenny it’s a dangerous game.  If he goes over and the bike stalls it’s lights out.

The whole season led up to this and it's only 1 point separating them now. All bets are off!

There’s no “what if”, “if only “, “should have” in racing. It is what it is. With that said I’m really hoping Kenny can get this thing done on Saturday but it’s been an awesome season and whoever wins, Wins.  I do think this race will be decided by lap three.

Since it's for the championship, I'm going to view any rough passes through the Osborne on Savatgy lens. I expect given the nature of the championship-on-the-line that the AMA will not pass judgement that will tilt the championship. I wonder how going off the track or missing a marker (ala Deegan) will be viewed. It would be crappy - though consistent with the rulebook that we say the AMA doesn't follow - if a strict interpretation of the rulebook decided the championship.

Hopefully the rule book doesn’t decide this one. If history continues that would mean that AMA enforcing (or not enforcing) would screw Honda over. They have gotten the short end of the stick in nearly every ruling they’ve made recently.

There's still potential litigation regarding the results of the 2008 FIA Formula 1 championship.

Don't underestimate the ability of a sanctioning body to screw up.
