I think he is struggling with a mental issue. I have seen him behave this way many times.
Will we ever find out what “under the weather” means? “Medical issues” turned out to be I dragged my wife on to the front yard and slapped her silly.
going wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out on a limb, but maybe Eli's brother is deployed in the Middle East and Eli is stressin on that?
That could possibly be a fair point

Woah. That would be crazy. Interesting theory.
As a Tomac fan, I feel like some folks need to take a long hard look at the years where he didn't win. He is not infallible.
At the same time... My money is on his back being toast. Random? Maybe, but his horrible body position and lack of aggression just gives me that vibe.
Elito Mac is back. No different than a few years ago in New Jersey and several other races where he appears to just ride around. This sport is hard AF and nobody is immune to the pressure and/or pace.
What’s the most likely explanation of what we’re seeing? The bike probably didn’t turn to shit all of a sudden. Tomac probably didn’t just forget how to ride, lose the desire and stop caring all of a sudden, or age 10 years in a few weeks. I suppose anything is possible but none of those things are likely. It’s more likely that he’s hurt and is doing his best to push through it and salvage points in the hope that he can recover enough to finish strong. If that’s right, then he’s got heart to be out there on a tough track still battling and staying in it. This would also mean that for whatever reason, he’s lying to us about his health.
Motocross racers get injured frequently. I’d think that an athlete lying about an injury is a more frequent occurrence than an athlete all of a sudden inexplicably losing the ability to perform. If that’s what’s going on - he’s lying about not being injured - its a matter of: How bad is it and can he get better and regain his form? I hope he can.
DeCoster definitely ain’t even looking at Tomac, let alone talking to him right now
God Awful. It’s embarrassing at this point so why not just tell everyone what’s wrong?
He was within a second of JCoop earlier in the main. Then starts missing rhythm sections and lost touch. Cooper Webb was about 8 seconds behind him and then passed him in a few laps. Needs to find his mojo.
He's a private person and has never been one to reveal anything that could give anyone even a sliver of insight into how he will perform.
It's not embarrassing. He's old school.
I could tell from the first practice, the next to last rhythm with the long double out of the corner then the triple over the 5 footer looked like it scared him. I only saw him triple over the 5 footer a few times all night.
Only kind of joking, did him breaking his tooth make him realize he's not unbreakable? He's been timid ever since.
This is true...the most likely scenario is usually true and that would be something physically wrong. For example, I suppose you could get away with saying a 'bad back' acting up is not an injury? Something along those lines?
Hate to think he is flat out lying, but, to me, he was smiling and laughing way too much in the press day interviews. Him saying nothing was wrong and that he was ready to go for it didn't happen at all tonight.
He had Hunter right in front of him for a while and then looked like he gave up trying. How can you be mentally strong the whole season and then all of a sudden lose it? Especially when Hunter gifted him. Doesn't seem possible.
I agree. We know he’s had weirdo rides but this is several weeks in a row. I don’t know if he’s ever been this bad.
Begining of one season he hurt his shoulder and wouldn’t tell anyone he was hurt.
Had a bunch of similar races as we have been seeing.
What’s happening with Tomac doesn’t make much sense- so your theory makes about as much sense as anything else.
I dunno why your comment receives downvotes.
It's posts like this that make me dislike this forum
How the f**k is it "embarrassing?"
How you have the nerve to say that about someone with more talent, character and tenacity than you would ever have in 10 lifetimes is simply beyond me
Pit Row
You done crying? It was a terrible ride, again. Coming from a huge Eli fan. Either let people know what is going on, you are a professional athlete making millions and you should, or take the criticism. I want him to win this title as much as any Eli fan but if you’re really getting beat by 30 seconds and have no injury, wth is going on then?
useless old man OK get over it never winning another race same as webb .
This is what has always annoyed me about Tomac. He doesn’t budge an inch or give any insight and then is super sensitive if people make assumptions. Big dog, people have eyes and are going to make their own conclusions if you can’t communicate what’s going on. The way he acted appalled toward Lewis asking him questions…bro you’re 30 something use your words
Depression would explain a lot of his "style"
Exactly. Again, him and Kenny are my favorites but it is so obvious when you go from being the fastest man on a 450 for 9 rounds to losing by 30 seconds to some guys who would almost never beat you. There's a problem outside of the bike.
Just be logical for a minute. How could it be the bike? He LOVED that bike and was on cloud 9 for what 9 rounds or so? Then all of the sudden it's so unrideable that he can't stay within 30 seconds of the lead? Come on. If that's the case, I would think someone at KTM might be smart enough to go back to the start of year settings? Oh wow maybe I just solved it? Who would ever think of something like that? Go back to the settings you were crushing people on maybe? Seriously, it's not the bike.
Normally I would agree with this theory but Roczen seems to be getting faster as the season progresses. He doesn’t race outdoors anymore though.
He will not race outdoors this year. He's definitely hurt and we'll find out when sx concludes if not earlier.
He is definitely injured.
he doesn't owe you - or any of us- that. Get over it.
Naw he doesn’t owe anyone anything, but lying is pretty dumb and his tactical silence ain’t working.
KTM can’t afford to pay for a championship and neither can Suzuki, same thing will happen to roczen soon.
He's a grown man that may just have different priorities and personal standards than people who live through socials and "sharing" absolutely everything about their lives with the universe.
