Anyway, my point is that the casual fan (and by that, I mean the ones that come out because they like "Watching them dirtsickles fly") wouldn't know the difference 'tween a two-stroke, four-stroke, and a Wankel rotary.

It's one thing when a few message board wackos go off on something but there are 16,000 views on this thread started because DV , a proffessional racer turned team manager is bringing a 2 stroke to the gate. Jeremy McGrath commented on national television that the big heavy 450's don't like to stop or turn, that in itself should make the four stroke sheep take notice. Mitch Payton talking about how he can't do things in house anymore because he is so dependent on outside vendors to supply him with parts speaks volumes to all who are not blind.

The fact that there are 79 purveyors of the poot, and one bike that does not sound like farts, and that the fart sounding bikes are allowed to be almost twice the size at a modern pro race only suggests that something is amiss with pro racing.

Maybe the makers of "Whoopee Cushion" novelties have become major sponsors of the series???

Maybe the higher ups in the racing series have a special place in their hearts for farts???

Just checked the hall. A thread about favorite pictures, last year's countdown to SX (and this year's similar thread), and a thread about Pastrana have more views. This thread has a long way to go if it were to catch up to the three picture threads, but is close to the Pastrana one. That only goes off the hall though.

People like myself, generally make the argument that the 450 machines are too fast. It's not necessarily that they are too fast, I believe the recent generation of professionals have adapted well to the bikes (even though it may be less exciting than watching 2-strokes), it's just that the human body is too weak for the level of progression now reached!



When you watch footage of how slow guys were going back in the early 90's, compared to today, it leaves no question as to why so many people are getting hurt, missing the season, spending the rest of their lives in wheelchairs, or months in rehab learning to walk again.



My educated guess is this: a return to the two-strokes (which I don't expect to happen), would result in closer racing for a number of reasons. 250cc two-stroke supercross would be similar to restrictor plate racing in Nascar. The pack would be tighter bunched since the men wouldn't have the extra power of the 450s that they have today to separate themselves from the boys. Furthermore, most riders of today's progression would be running the bikes wide open to the max, getting aggressive as hell, which is way more exciting to watch than seeing someone ride a 450 conservatively due to the fear of self-implosion!

The leap would be to expect the OEMs to reinvent and hire a full time rider for 2-strokes just because he does well. Until the current sales model folds completely you won't see any sort of movement to cheaper tech. It has nothing to do with some unexplainable hate toward 2-strokes. And I realize you're most likely being sarcastic but a lot of your fellow goofballs seem dead serious about stuff like this, like somehow the world turned against 2-strokes.
