He let loose last night on Pulp about his time at Kawasaki and how he wasn't allowed to make changes wanted to the bike. He was very angry that Dan Fahie said at the A1 press conference that they have always allowed their guys to make the changes they want to be comfortable on the bike. He said this lack of flexibility really hindered his results during his time there. Its a very interesting listen.
THAT QUOTE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ABOVE BANNER HAS BEEN MADE TO SEVERAL RIDERS OVER THE YEARS BY SEVERAL TEAMS.
It got mentioned on the chase panic button thread so I had to give this weeks show a listen, I find it kind of hard to listen to the pulp shows during the season when there’s so many other weekly shows going on too. It was definitely worth it.
Jake didn’t pull any punches on that one. He seems pretty at peace with his career and has nothing to gain by making his feelings known. Definitely doesn’t make kawi look very good. I just hope they can make it work with chase. The series is better when he’s in the mix for the championships.
Probably explains why Chads Factory Monster Kawi career didn't last either haha
2013 was about the time I was completely away from any pro racing. And I know for sure 2010-13 they were struggling with set up and RV was pretty pissed. I remember 2011 being in the pits and RV yelling the bike was shit at buddy creek after the 2nd moto.

Yeah anybody that thinks Kawi gave it all for Prado needs to listen. Jake said he kept quiet all these years, but when he heard that Dan Fahie said that Kawi was ALWAYS flexible for their riders, he flipped out. Couldn't sleep. Calling out "lies", no subtlety or ambiguity about what Jake said. You can say he's bitter - but listen to the whole thing before you come to that conclusion.
Jake rode for Kawi for 4 seasons. Kawi won 6 championships during that time. One of the most dominant runs of any team in history.
I like Jake. I'm not saying he's wrong. I'm just pointing out that his lack of success didn't necessarily mean that Kawi didn't know what they were doing.
Did you even listen to it? Jesus fuck man.
Wow !!
Class act.
The riders he didn't mention prove that.
Maybe because he’s always quite drunk on the show he thinks he’s kept quiet about this and doesn’t remember, but IMO he’s the reason why this narrative started from what he’s said in previous appearances on the show.
Just letting you no I am your downvote on this because I do know last year that they threw everything at that bike that Prado asked for multiple specs on Motors multiple front front ends different shocks linkages. Last year with Prado was definitely nowhere near the same situation that I heard about back in the day at kawi. Their biggest problem as their Japanese test rider said they had some things that they could give him that would help with what he wanted but the problem was can't use it in ama racing could only use it in the GPS and Japan
Jake has been sitting on this fr 12 years.
Best and most candid content I have heard in a long time.
Good job Jake
Believe me when I tell you RV won on that bike a lot yes but make no mistake about it he was not happy with that bike at all indoors or out. It is the main reason why he talks about had he gone somewhere else and gotten away from kawi that last year instead of going and doing the GPS he probably would have stuck around a few years. I know in 2011 and 2012 I went to the same three races round one Budds Creek and then went back home to go hang out for 4th of July at Red Bud and I can back up wjat Jake Weimer said that after the second motos RV was not somebody you wanted to talk to. It was kind of like when Ricky used to go out and decimate everybody with a 1-1 and then come back to the truck and do nothing but b**** about how the bike was a piece of s***. Except it was fairly widely known that kawi had some issues with their bike from 06 on. An it always seemed to be the same issues.
this is going to go sideways for two reasons,
1,most wont listen to the entire interview
2, people just want to hate, mainly this
RV had one of the most unique setups ever, riding it low in the rear and steering with the rear.
If you would have given him Tomac setup, he wouldn't have won a single race. So expecting anyone else to win based on RV setup? Not very likely.
I just stumbled upon a video of rv talking about one year how bad the bike was. going against dunge he had to start up front and win every first moto. He said the bike beat the shit out of him and by over half way through the second moto he was too gassed. They had a new set up they year at dilla and he went 1-1.
Uhhhh, I think chase showing up with half a PC catalog thrown at the bike, would say otherwise.
Don’t know why you’re getting shot down with the down-voters…?
What you’re posting is absolute truth. I’ve even seen riders start picking their next team awfully damn early due to this phenomenon.
Here’s a reality check that I know to be true…
Both Jake and Dan are telling their side of the story honestly and truly…from their perspective.
I’m betting no-one will believe Dan has even stepped outside the “corporate rules” to try to…carefully…help his riders.
Well, it’s true. He has. Personally…with my own eyes…been there, seen that. From “More Power!” for one Champ to “More Feel” for another.
The things I’m seeing, lately, with Chase…well, this required someone to have the balls to tell the KMC bosses…
“We need to make some changes. Our way isn’t working.” My guess? That had to be Dan.
Here’s the reality of all this:
One of the hardest things you’ll ever do is…
Try To Change Corporate Culture
Dan ain’t the bad guy. And neither is Jake.
Most wont listen to the entire interview because its too long? It's a half hour. Are people's attention spans really that short? I listen to 6hr podcasts all the time
Pit Row
RV would win on a lawn mower back than. Listening to him and Carmichael talk about shit bikes they still managed titles with. Justt shows you can win without being a princess
Whiner weimer, sounds like sour apples
To reiterate, Jake stated many times he was referring to efforts back then, not current Kawi.
He also said lack of actual testing for 20+ years got them to this point that they’re probably so far lost they can’t help their riders find comfort.
Remember when Factory Kawi ran FMF pipes because they thought Mitch’s end cap caused an RV DNF?
Clown organization. Anaheim Angels of Moto.
So when a 15 year old kid says his bikes a piece of shit, and thats the only reason he didnt win, does Dad go and buy a new bike? Or tell kid stfu and ride faster? The rider always knows better right?
So what needs to change?
That took alot of courage. He knew by speaking out he was going to sacrifice some close personal relationships, but felt compelled to do it anyway purely out of respect for himself. Not an easy feat, but I hope it provides him with the closure he was seeking. I also hope he gets his apology.
Are you pretending to not know the difference here?
Could have always pulled a Brad lackey. when Brad Lackey was with team Suzuki winning the 500cc world championship. Brad chose to run the Simmons upside down fork. Suzuki said no, run our stuff. Brad Gave suzuki the big middle finger. Brad won the 500cc world title. The next year, Lackey ( the 500cc champion), was unemployed.
