An open letter to Max Anstie

That was totally unnecessary. Max conceded the spot knowing Deegs had more pace and maybe he was hoping for a tow to find a way back around him, or taking the 2nd which he would have easily, but no, Deegan had to be a douche about it. And a supposed teammate too. SMH. If Max didn't know where he stood with Deegan, he knows now. As George Bush Junior famously once said, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...well you aren't going to fool me again" or something close to that!

It all makes sense. Anstie is a threat. Why let him get 2nd and gain 3 points when you can knock him down and make up 10 points. It’s just simple math

Bingo!

I don't agree with riding like that, especially against a teammate, but that is definitely why Deegan hit Max's front wheel.

What gets me is everyone else is so content settling for second. They all say they know how he races that’s just how it is blah blah blah and they continue to let him get away with it. No one ever fights back or takes the fight to deegan, except kitchen at smx last year. The “I don’t want to play the games” isn’t working. They need to start playing the games!

I feel the same way. At some point people gotta fight fire with fire and fight back or they deserve to get punked. It would be cool to see max give him the business back and fight for the championship but time will tell.

The plan clearly worked for him though. Take Max out, get the red plate and prove the internet wrong that max is not faster after last weekend. If he passed clean, Max would still have the red plate and some wind in his sail. Stand strong, stick your chest out and fight back Max.

It was weird to hear Max say on the podium (paraphrasing) “Yeah I was trying to let him by” while leading the race. What kind of mentality is that?

This picture makes it very clear- for sure one of the most aggressive/brutal passes we have ever seen..nothing even comes close…Deegs needs to be put on probation.

This thread is full of made up drama…that pass was clean. We’ve seen it 1000x. Only folks in here pretending to be hurt because it was Deegs on Max..

Honestly at this point I don't even know if it's Deegan I'm mad about or about the fact that the riders (except for Shimoda who didn't move over and raced forward) give him all room in the world, expecting him to just go by and then act surprised when he goes for it.

I can't believe Max really thought they'd have a clean battle for the title just because he got invited to his track that week even though Deegan did the same to teammates before.

You just have to admit it, Deegan knows how to play this game very well while taking advantage without crossing the line too much. Everyone who thinks this wasn't intentional btw is delusional. If Max would have finished 2nd, he would still have the points lead and in a short 250 SX series where it's not unusual that it comes down to very few points by the end every single point matters. Finishing 2nd there or going down and losing a couple positions makes a MASSIVE difference and Deegan is very aware of that.

I don't like Deegan, but as long as the riders do nothing about it and still act surprised when something happens I don't know if I can actually blame him anymore.

gtfo no one hates Deegan more than me, but Jesus fucking christ don't put Friese on his level.

Friese makes a god damn living racing dirtbikes and getting results and wearing eyeliner. He knows he's not fast but god damn start upfront blend in.

Guys also has 3 250SX podiums most recent being 2nd in 22

Friese has no choice but to be a tool bag as its how makes a living, Deegan has a choice. But this Max incident, wasn't anything to bitch about.

Just a tad bit emotional🤣

Have a nice day. 😀

Anstie’s post race interview was fantastic. “Down like a sack of potatos” 😂

A few “I didn’t expect that”

If given the chance he is  going to knock Deegs on his ass at A2

Probably the I’ll suck it up and take the points tonight and move on to try and be better next week/not try and play games or ride over my head and eat shit here mentality

I thought the same. I figured he was trying to choose his words wisely, not piss people off and sound like a whiner. I thought he did good in the moment though. I would struggle not to be pissed and running my mouth if that was me haha. But letting someone by in the main is weird.  He tried to go faster in the main but just wasn’t enough. Hopefully this fires him up and we have a championship battle.

This place needs a big dose of testosterone and for somebody to take the tampon dispenser out of the men’s room.

This is the standard response if you dare think about criticising Deegan’s actions on track. That everyone is just soft, he’s such an alpha, so much more ballsy than everyone else on track.

The reality is that his style of racing is the equivalent of walking up behind someone, punching them in the back of the head and then running away.

Probably because Sexton didn’t make an amateur career of riding like this, nor has he in his professional career lol.

I just cannot believe that anyone in the field that is good enough to battle Deegan thinks that they just can forfeit a position and that Deegan wont try to take your front wheel out. Look at Deegans IG, he is reposting videos of the take out with comments like "when you f with the kid". Deegan does that move 10 times out of 10.

A mature and gentlemanly racer knows when they are about to get passed and makes reasonable accommodations for such an occurrence so as to not further compromise their position with an unnecessary collision.

And then there’s Deegan…

Good to see the usual Deegan boot lickers here, buckets in hand putting out spot fires.

In all fairness the great one did break his own collar bone to make things right. Eye for eye and all that.
But hey thru practice and hard work the champ has greatly improved his take out skills since last year.

when someone blasts up the inside, or has way more pace than you, the only alternative is to try and ride like Friese and be a blocker -- provoking a take out or a punch to the head, which helps no one...

So holding on as long as reasonable, then jumping in behind to grab a tow and learn is the best bet -- at worst you finish second...

But douche nozzle can't help but be a douche nozzle covered in shit.

Deegan is one of the few riders who I think actively makes the sport worse. And hearing the crowd booo him is was great vindication.

Agree 100%. I made a comment on page 1 about the fact that Max should have seen this coming, but with the downvotes it looks like a lot of people disagree on me (us) here.

Keep in mind that Max turned pro in 2009/2010 (!), battled prime 250 Herlings, Searle, Jonass, Ferrandis for years, won several GP's, went to MXGP and battled for podiums and has MXON wins in 2017. With all of his experience and awareness about the sport, I think he should have seen it coming that Deegan will do anything to battle him and win.

I'm absolutely not a big fan of Deegan, but I respect his will to win and his accomplishments in this sport so far. Do I agree with the way he is riding? Sometimes I do, sometimes I think it is way over the top. Last seasons SMX final was a disgrace to our sport, but there are some other battles where he made contact with a rider and I was totally fine with it. Same goes for this weekend. You know that he will try something, and he did.

Last year I thought Beaumer would stand up and give him some more attitude back, but other then a heated conversation around the podium I never saw any retaliation. The only guys in the 250 class who show him that they don't want to be pushed around are Kitchen and Shimoda. All of the other guys just give him room or accept to be pushed around. Max Anstie now openly shared that it's on. Well, let's see how bad you want to win this championship. I'm rooting for you. Deegan now exactly has Max where he wants him though, as he thrives on head games and these kind of battles since his Supermini days.

Its the mentality of of guy who knows he has a petulant child as a team mate.

He only needs to finish 2nd every week.

The thing is, Max did see it coming, he said so, and he thought he was out of the way far enough to avoid it, but Deegan still couldn’t help himself, which is why Anstie said “wow” when watching the replay.

Exactly. Don't know why so many people are not understanding this

My guess is Max thought for sure Dirty Deegan wouldn't  take out his own teammate.
