I think KR94, JS7, and Jett in their own ways are unteachably talented. Their raw abilities on the bike puts them in a good conversation
TP199
RC has to be near the top. He must have had some talent. Maybe not as graceful, but you can't deny 5 SX championships in 6 years. One year (04??) he must have been injured.
Controversial take but I'm going to go with TP199.
That guy had so much talent he could completely skip testing, come into the season off of an injury with no training and still have top 3 speed. His injuries and lack of focus killed his SX career but from pure talent, few could step onto the gate with less preparation and just let their talent take them to the top like he could.

Tomac has to be near the top also. You don't win 50+ SX races on luck.
I think both Tomac and Villo are strong candidates, absolute monsters in SX, but would you put them above JS7, Jett or MC for example when just speaking about talent?
Personally, I think a lot of you guys are confusing style with talent.
1) MC1
2) JS7
3) CR22
Place and Time have to matter.
Therefore, you’re correct.
MC brought more eyeballs than James.
They are both at the top of my list though.
Physical talent, Jett.
Mental talent, CW2.
Maintained talent, MC.
James Stewart. Case closed.
Let’s put it this way. This video is 16 years old, and there isn’t anything “old school” about his riding. He was from the future. Factor in the 2010 Yamaha and that is some serious talent
My top 5 in no order because it's hard to compare them across decades
JMB
James Stewart
Ryan Dungey
David Bailey
Lawrence Bros
Wildcard is Ron Lechien
Rowdy sparks and McGrath..
I remember listening to an interview with Mcgrath where he said Denny Stephenson asked him how he was winning so much, and he said he didn't know. Mcgrath had absolutely incredible SX talent.
Mcgrath right there also but, Stewart's skills were insane.
Pit Row
DNGR Sr!
Greatest ghost rider evah!
Jett. And James.
MC
stewart
RC
Pure talent ? Gotta be James
That dude loved riding scared!
No other rider comes close to that level
Stew. Next question
That's one stiff bike.
Watch his 05 kx 250 practice. Nothing old about that riding either. Jett may do things with his throttle control that James didn't, but if my life is on the line, one fast lap needed I'd take Js7.
In no Order...
Hill Brothers, Hanson, Bubba, Jett, McGrath, Windham, Josh Grant, Roczen, Jason Lawrence
respectful, i also would add Adam Cianciarulo. Pre Injury....
It has to be the top 4 guys all time that had the most talent...MC, Eli, JS and RC. SX basically started in what...1974?? 52 years and average around 15 races each year since?? That makes 780ish SX mains. That means that almost 30% of all the SX main events were won by 4 guys. There's the talent pool.
MC did things that no one else at the time could do.
JS7 did things that no one else has ever been able to do.
Obviously McGrath.
How is this not entirely unanimous?
Pourcel is on any most talented list. His career didn't go how any of us would have liked but that dude is pure talent
Post a reply to: Totally subjective, but who's the most talented SX rider of all time?
