Going way back with this one!
I raced there at an LL regional in '08. Roczen was there, which was surreal. Track was hard and rocky.
Maybe this place and not Steel City? It's in McDonald PA just outside of Pittsburgh

I was there in 2005, RV's few rookie races. Remembering that #207.
Edit: That was 20 years ago already?..... fock..
This is definitely a "name them" pic ... such a cool shot !!
Dunge vs RV 2011 first moto is an all timer
Left to right the best I have....
Willard, Rodriguez, Hahn, Izzi, Davalos, Metcalf, Hepler, RV, Townley, Lawerence, Goerke
Add Boniface behind Metcalfe.
I loved that place! 05 was my first time being there and I got a bunch of photos from the weekend. A lot of the Wetlands laws are often much stronger locally than the Federal and state versions. So a lot of regulations being lowered federally will only allow states and towns the ability to also rewrite their local laws to lower the local bylaws too. ( I heard it was runoff into the wetlands that was a big reason for the track closing, I could be wrong) . It would be so cool if they did reopen! But I doubt they would get a national unless they flip flop with Highpoint every other year.
Hamblin on the KX250!
don't see it happening.
in addition to highpoint mx sports has ironman now for national and regional events.
if they wanted to add another place for local or LL quals, they already have Jeff Russell's track, Sunday ridge.
and not sure how the epa problems would just go away. i think it was more than erosion and silt.
If I remember right, it had more to do with concerns about contamination in a drinking supply reservoir not far down stream. while it may have relaxed somehow, who is going to make that investment when it all can change back the other way in 3 or 7 years.
Pit Row
Someone told me a rumor about that a week ago. The rumor was that 3 ownership parties are involved and 2 of the three want a track again, and are working with the third to try to make it happen.
Who said anything about MX Sports involvement? They never owned the place, just leased.
Was there the day Langston and Brown battled for the championship. And RC dropped back down to ride a 125.
I was there too. I loved that place. It was only a 20 minute drive from where I grew up. Last time I ever raced was there in 1991. Good times!
Our old buddy TFS dropping in
I was there from 91 or 92 until they closed. It broke my heart hearing It was closing after that last national. Here’s a pic the morning before the last race 😢
Add to that how people bitch about noise and dust issues that haven’t been there in over 10 years I seriously doubt it’s coming back although I’d love to see it since it’s only 15 minutes away. The reality is it’s almost certainly run it’s last race. I hope I’m wrong.
yeah, ok.....
they do not own high point either.
have they ever "owned" a track?
Im standing here with Mike and confirmed, it's only rumors that steel city may reopen. What has happened tho, is he's expanded his training track that runs around the house to be pretty big. They are able to split training groups into 2 groups and have plenty of track.
Post a reply to: Steel City Closed???
