It’s tradition and avoids # conflicts.  Leave it alone.

It's less about 'fun' and more about being informative.

When I was looking at the running order, I could see names I'm not familiar with and compare their number to the names that I do know, to see what type of passes could be made over the 30 minutes. Having them all run random numbers would be idiotic.

How would they run their "regular numbers", when the same numbers are used in different series?

No problem with the numbers but I wish Saturdays gate pick was determined by previous year's results

Would you feel the same if your team had a bad result the previous year?

Saturday's gate pick by lottery is fair, the cream will rise to the top and have better gate picks for Sunday's races.

Not sure that would work for Hunter Lawrence, Kyle Webster, Lucas Coenan.  Their regular number is #96 for all.

The currently 4 'keep their regular number' votes need to explain themselves haha

Exactly, just like MX and SX used to be. I like it. And I know we’ll never go back to that system because of branding and easy rider ID etc. I was just curious if anyone else thought it was cool knowing where they finished last year and that “Learning” their # for this one race was no big deal. Vs how many people didn’t like it and want Roczen to be 94, Tomac # 3 etc.  So far 68 out of 73 liked that the numbers meant something beyond basic rider ID, even if only for one race a year. Is it a jab against permanent #’s ? Yep. 😄.

The AMA should return to this system!

I don’t believe the poll result has anything to do with the numbering system in other series. MXdN is a one off special event and people are okay with numbers that are reflective of that event only.
It doesn’t mean most people want the permanent numbers gone imo.

I don’t understand why riders need to have a ‘brand’ that includes a #.

Why can’t ‘RC4’ just be ‘RC’?

Or if they need a number, it could be the number of pro titles they have?

‘RC15’

I’ve never got the branding argument. It doesn’t say much for your profile if your name on its own doesn’t cut it.

Numbers should be the ranking you earned last season. The lowest numbers are the best riders and number 1 is the champ.

Don’t even need #”s…they have transponders…. Should use that space to advertise…..only fans, Bud lite, Camel, ….Mx Sports and AMA could make a killing charging the riders to have advertisements…..

The only solution would be using Roman Numerals

And Webster in Australia.
