So I guess it’s chillitown now even though I’ve never ridden there, flagged a lot does that count?
The track has been open sporadically for winter riding this year on a "studs only" basis, but as this pic shows we are getting pretty close to full dirt again and expect to be open regularly in a week or two. Once daylight savings time hits, it won't be long until we run in the evenings as well.
Does your track loader pull that disk ok? Thinking of doing the same set up. Thanks!
Yea, I used my old 2011 Tak Tl240 (83 hp) CTL for years but that disc was def a hog. I upgraded to a new kubota SVL97 (96) three years ago. A big CTL will pull a disc no problem, I have over 2,000 tugging one with those two machines, if the dirt is dry it can pull rabbit mode even but I don’t as the disc work better slow. Crazy seeing those older pics of the track. We just flipped it around for the first time and I’ve kept building jumps, it’s come a long ways for sure!

Very sick! Thank you. I have a SVL95. Makes me feel better you have done the same. I was worried about excessive wear, or lack of depth on the disks. Love the track! Thanks!
I grew up 10 minutes from Steel City and never realized how much I took it for granted until it was gone. I’m glad I got to grow up and go there every year, it was the highlight of the year for sure. I have some Polaroids of RC on a PC Kawi somewhere. Damn I miss that track.
Pit Row
Beautiful country up there. I believe y'all get a lot of that mist or fog up there too right? I don't know, I've never been but want to get out there someday. Also, isn't that one of the counties that grows a lot of the state regulated weed? Not sure on that either.
You have a beautiful property. probably make a lot of us envy you!!
I would say both would qualify. Spokes top track was where I saw Sellards and other young pros for the first time. 1998 or so. Beans came around a couple years later.
I live between 3 towns North and west of Fort Worth, TX now. No city taxes, and I'm between Boyd, Azle and Springtown.
I have River Valley (a popular track, but not real technical) about 8 miles from my house.
I live about 25 miles from HIS956, Masterpool's training facility and ride there as often as I can.
I live about 27 miles from Oak Hill Raceway MX. (A lot of big races through the years and a lot of tradition, and Mitch Oldenburgs old stomping grounds. Lots of pros ride there and Kyle Cunningham was running a training program there last I knew as well)
before moving to Ca. 8 years ago I would say that my “home track” was a little gem originally called Z Mans, nothing special of a track on a flat piece of ground. However, Z Man was in the dirt business and took every ounce of pride in creating “Magic Dirt” and in his best Southern accent “loom”, the best mixture of clay and rivers sand you ever rolled your tires on.
Best part was we had our crew better known as the “MTP” that would show up super early for the prime parking spots with music blasting out of the Kingpins van, subwoofer and all. We’d always be the first ones on the track burning in lines. In between sessions we’d be talking shit and all of the people we knew would always come hang or visit our pit area. Once riding was done for the day the bottle tops would start flying and music blasting once again. There was a saying that stuck with our group as one of ours friends said,”how do you guys do it, you tear it up on the track, then tear it up in the pits?” So many times, after closing time, Z Man would just leave us there and say “lock the gate on your way way out”. So many memorable times at this facility with some really good friends often times well into the late night early morning hours. In my 36 ish years of riding and the 14 or so years of frequenting this track this place holds some damn good rides, stories, shennagins, along with a wife. As I said this place was nothing special for those “chasing the dream” but damn did we have some fun there! Long live MTP although Z Man’s is gone…
Thunder Valley! 15 minutes from home.
Village Creek, about 15 minutes from the house. It's called something different now, and I haven't seen it in a few years, but I absolutely lived it for about 15 years.
In the immortal words of Ian Anderson, I was too old to rock n roll and too young to die.
I decided to use my knowledge of making racing safer from my years of officiating other forms of racing to transform this track into a more professionally run facility.
It was pretty good when I got there, but I believe it was much better when I left.
15 years... Wow.
Washougal. I live in Washougal , 10 minutes from the track
I live in League City, Friendswood side. My home track is Ultimate Motocross in Alvin, Tx. About 20 minute drive from my house. May be the most underrated track in the Houston area, maybe in the state. Rio Bravo is famous ya might say. Three Palms is impressive no doubt. Ultimate is an MX track inside a dirt works/sand pit. Unlimited supply of good dirt and sand. Along with owner was national number back in the day and knows how to build an MX track. Glen also ran and prepped Rio Bravo years back before he had Ultimate MX. Ultimate MX is open 7 days a week, fully prepped Saturday and Sunday. It still good come Mondays when I ride. Glen drags it every morning during the week. Track is always in good shape and a good all around track for both fast and slow guys.
I doubt there is a track in Texas that can take water like Ultimate and still be open. Ultimate is open when Rio, 3 Palms and MX 2.0 are rained out.
MX 2.0 is a sleeper track that some in the Houston area may not even be aware of, half way between Houston and Beaumont. About hour and 10 minute drive from my house, a lot Beaumont guys ride 2.0. It’s a good track too and keeps getting better. Heavy rains take a toll on MX 2.0 but the owner is a hard worker and builds it back better every big rain. We get lots of rain in Southeast Texas.
We are lucky in the Houston area, we have 4 tracks to choose from, all good.
Back in the days before phones and computers, there was less interference with riding. I guess we had a lot more free time.
We rode all the time and always were finding new places to ride. I would need most of my fingers to count the number of "home tracks" a few of us practiced on, the key thing being a desire to practice on as many different types of dirt as possible.
\My favorite was a shale track we called Slate Hill because it was built on and around a huge hill-climb out of a creek.
Clarks branch Oregon, about 4 hours away in from where I lived... But it was the closest one and a bitching track owned and run by the Huffman's.
For a short time when I was older, phillipsville was open. That was pretty cool also for a flat hard packed track with quads.
The Midwest is pretty under rated for motocross there’s definitely a lot of good tracks out there
Saskatoon sand track - about a 15 minute drive from my house. Goes from smooth to rough pretty quickly! That’s not me in the picture - just a cool picture of a buddy that shows the track on race day.
