Yes, this is my son. For people who don’t know, he isn’t big on asking for help and has been working all summer to reach his goal. He has gone farther and worked harder than I ever could have imagined and I’m a very proud dad. He hasn’t asked use to help one time since he has been doing this on his own. He put that there by recommendation just in case someone wanted to help. His budget to race is going to cost $20k and if I had it to just hand over, I would. Also, I REALLY hope this is the start of so moto Media for him.

Soooo elephant in the room, did you actually name him Doc or is that a nickname with a good memorable story behind it?

If you are still struggling to make the mains after a couple of years, its time to give it up.  Its crazy to see privateers spend a shit ton of money year after year to not even qualify more than a couple times a year.  In this day and age if you don't have a major sponsor/contract after Lorretta's then you probably won't make it racing

Mark Barnett told me this years ago, he said you either have it or you dont and if you DO have it someone will notice and thats when you get the support. I didnt have it. 😒

Here’s the Doc and I in Loveland CO. Always been a fan of his, except when he’s giving me the business on the race track.

Great kid, excellent racer. Go gettem!

I believe that is true. I think (not just for me) the hardest part is staying racing long enough for people to notice. Like @Honda11 said. most poeple quit within the first few years of their pro career if they don’t have them their way.  Thankfully @CLT809 found me as I was gearing up for the 25 season and lengthened my career atleast an entire year (so far). Who knows what the future holds but, I’m all in!

Maybe he's just trying to have fun racing for a few more years?  I'm sure there are people out there that would love to donate some money to have their own horse in the race.

Wasting money?  Racing is literally all about wasting money. It's a sport we do for fun. Even the guys making money at it arent curing cancer or anything.

There's a good chance if he gets to ride SX everyday at Club then he'll have no problem making the mains this year.

As much as I love racing and try to have fun doing it i wouldn’t be racing at the professional level still if I didn’t whole heartedly believe that I can achieve my goals. If I had the results I have had these previous years without any of the set backs i wouldn’t be racing the coming year. I genuinely believe I can be a consistent main event guy in sx and that’s what I have my eyes set towards for 26. If it happens then awesome. If it doesn’t and I have a year like the previous seasons I’m done. I hate spending my money and my supporters money for things to not workout for me like it has.

I think you said it very well. You have to stay out there racing long enough for others to take notice. That’s the key in my opinion, and you’re doing it. Keep grinding, you just never know what can happen.

Question for this young man or anyone else who wants to chime in. How much money can be made racing smaller fair races and arenacross. I see a bunch of privateers struggling to make the 40 rider field indoors and out. I see a few racing arenacross and the fair races. Being from Texas do you race the Texas pro challenge as well? A good example would be Chyanne Harmon.

For the most part most of the fair races are up in the mid west. With driving out to them and back getting 12mpg, race gas for the bike, entry fees and the little things. there isn’t too much to gain (other then bike time). I would love to hit them but when you are gone for 4 days to go to them it’s worth it to stay home and work for 3 days ride a local track for 1 and still come out with more money. (At my current speed). Speaking on the pro challenge this year im thinking about racing it but the timing of it looks like I might already be at club mx or loading up to head down to club mx (if everything goes smoothly)

With both of y'all chasing Luke Dickey #812!

BTW, Doc and Luke where 2 of the trainers at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes MX Camp the last two years at Underground in Texas. Its a camp I put on and we usually have 8 or 9 trainers. Both Doc and Luke where camp favorites with the riders and families. Good luck Doc!

IMO you never know what you can get unless you ask.  It's how I was able to get a rider into the Monster Cup years ago.  That rider is now a factory guy and has won multiple supercrosses.

Good luck Doc, rooting for you!

Awesome story homie. I'll be pulling for you. I lived the privateer life in road racing for a few years and it's not for the weak. Keep pushing, go after your goals and dreams. Just know as long as you keep pushing you will have some fans behind you

I was at first indifferent, then I kept reading the thread and saw all the replies from people who could have more easily moved onto a different thread but instead chose to take their jabs at someone who hasn't resigned himself to 40 years of working for the man like they did, so I made a venmo account and a donation.

Chase the dream as long as you want. You'll get to tell your grandkids about it someday.

Fair races hv packed grandstands the money varies. In 98 Lake Geneva Sx Fri night & Sunday nuclear series at Byron, il. 4,800 a week 125,250a. .  The money is nothing now in mx but the cost is nuts 1.99 in 98 trans oil now 17.99 + .  I think it’s a waste  of time & energy . If you only made 2 mains with a factory JSR engine . Club mx is not going to help it will burn u out tho. All kinds of riders quit riding after living at a training camp. And the travel is more getting to a race.  There’s 30+ k pro ams in the fall that’s where you make your money .  The next 2 weekends Wi. Has pro ams 3rd weekend in il. . Very little driving involved &  practice during the week for 10 bucks .  You would make more than club mx debt & a 5th at every ax race.  I don’t understand people funding privateers .  I would help a local boy or girl 1st. Local racing is expensive enough but pro racing it’s stupid expensive . Nobody rides a bike to get rich but if the travel & expenses r real high. You hv to make money. I was going to do 2 pro ams but 3 months of 3 injections a week , crap weather rained out 40 times working on bikes  , wild fire smoke that got you real sick. I pulled the plug I couldn’t afford it also . And I work 140 hr weeks .   I would be out of the payout . I would’ve scored points but so what .   I,m back in Chicago another 1099 Yes the Ukraine women r Hot & cool. The wages r not 40% - from 5 yrs ago.  Chad Johnson multi AX champ trained in Tx. He won 450 a pro am both motos. . I,m sure he could get a 5th in AX yet but the money sucks now.

I did actually see that earlier today. I believe this is more for the amateur racers then the pro’s but I’m interested to see how it unfolds. I’m just waiting on them to post the full pro schedule so I can see exactly how much it will be for all the rounds and plan it all out. They definitely take their time to post the schedule for a (in my opinion) privateer based series. In my opinion they would have a more consistent turnout for racers if they gave us more time to prepare.

I believe that's Rodbell. Wasn't he the one that got 4th in that mudder SX race this year and they interviewed him and he was talking about it? I might be off on who it was but I remember it being the guy that got 4th that race lol

Real name. Wife let me pick his first name. As a fan of westerns when I was a kid, I always liked the stories of Doc Holliday and thought it was a cool name.

UPDATE. I am still racing arenacross and supercross. After getting with the team we made the decision for me to race the Partzilla Arenacross series and east coast sx. I got on sx for the first time this year last week once I received my suspension and I’m so stoked to be back riding. Definitely rusty, but I’m as ready to go racing as I can be with only 3 days on the bike. I will try to continue to update the forum as much as possible going forward.
