😂 I saw that on the pitboard.  I guess if it makes you feel better.

Also including regional SX titles.

Its certainly an accomplishment and a nice pay day. Counting like a 450 sx titles or a National title? No. When you can take off almost a whole series and still win the title, it cant carry the same weight as those other titles. You DNF a moto in mx or a race in sx and you're in trouble. You can practically take the summer off in SMX and you're still good

I’ll shit on RC for his commentating all day long. But he’s likely to have his total titles number broken with the introduction of the SMX playoff title and that just doesn’t sit right with me.

Im torn about it. On one hand I never understood the ”one race championships” like the Loretta’s amateur championships. For me a championship is a series of multiple races.

But on the other hand if a championship is one or a few races that also put a massive pressure to perform in the few races that are held compared to a 10-15 race series where you can afford to mess a moto or two up and still win.

But the whole seeding and points system of SMX just makes it a bit to staged for me to give it the same credibility as a real championship. It’s constructed to create excitement for the fans as a circus, not a regular championship…

The series has definitely proved to be important to the riders and they’re prioritizing it, but it’s more of a triple crown mini series than an accolade you’d compare to 11 rounds or more.

Not really and calling it a "World Championship Title" makes it even worse

I can see that side of the argument. I still think the longevity and battle of attrition is more important than a result on one day of racing.

I agree but I think it’s only because of the money involved. If the prize pool was the same as a normal SX/MX race I don’t think the riders would be into it.

They try to sell the title as important to the riders but it’s really the money.

Technically the triple crown championship is 9 mains, so even that involves more racing then the SMX playoffs

I see Jett fans mention Jett is a 10x champion.

You’d expect a fan to say that. How many titles do you count for Haiden?

If we are basing it off what we count for RC he has 2.

I count Haiden as having 2. I don't include regional or smx.

I guess technically it’s true but I can’t say I’ve seen that written or said anywhere.

Actually I think it’s nine.

Yeah I've seen that too. "Jett already has more titles than RV!" No, he doesn't. Knock it off. Jett is the prime example of why SMX isnt a "real" title. He didnt even race one 450 sx race in 2023 and he was the 450 SMX champion. He missed more than half the mx races in 2024 and he was the 450 SMX champion. I will say I've been negative about SMX in the past but Im seeing the positives of it. Riders that were injured are rejoining the racing to score points for SMX when they otherwise would have just waited until next year. We probably wouldn't have seen Cole Davies race again this year if not for SMX. Roczen too

Haiden is a 5x 250 champion but only a 2x National Champion. That's how it works

the NFL does it...you have your conference championship(mx/sx titles)..they hang banners for these... then you have the super bowl.  there's something to be said for longevity...surviving and being consistent enough across all of mx/sx series to win out a triple points play off is a big accomplishment.  the 10-6 2007 giants beat the undefeated patriots...are they not superbowl champions?  haiden went 2-2 in sx/mx his rookie year but won the smx championship, does that not count?

Only shitty teams hang conference/division banners. (Looking at you colts).

I’m not sure the playoff comparison for team sports works.  The giants beat the Patriots in the SB. Obviously we count there Super Bowl, I’m not sure what you meant there.

Deegan won the smx title but do we count that the same as a national title. We don’t count regional SX titles in career totals.

There's no such thing as a 3-race championship, at least not at this level. It's fine for dachshund races at the fairgrounds.

Nah, they're cool and they're worth something but they aren't the same. The guys care about making it because it pays a shit ton of money lol. Everyone cares more about the main championships.

SMX was a calculated tactic to bring more money into the sport, make more money, persuade more riders to do outdoors, and to keep competing series at bay.
To their credit it appears to be succeeding on all fronts, but let’s not pretend it has the same value as the other titles, because it doesn’t.

Remember folks, if it was results based, Shimoda wins the 23 250 smx, not dngrdunce. The Mickey mouse points system is a joke and lends no credibility to the "world title of America". Jett only doing 1 full 450 season in both 23 and 24 but winning smx also shows how stupid it is. It's a good money maker for the riders but it's not a proper championship at all

Jo raced under the same rules as Haiden.

That's very correct. Jo's overall results in the 3 smx races were better than HD's, but because of the silly triple points in the final race the "championship" goes to Deegan, it makes the whole mini series completely irrelevant. Remember Jordon Smith was in with a sniff of the smx championship coming into the final moto because of the triple points? Dude was nowhere all year but could have won it all.

I heard on the broadcast Deegan could be "the first to win the three titles in one season"...

Ever heard of JMB, guys? And actual titles, I mean...
