Are we in an era where the AMA 450s are at a higher level than MXGP and we just don’t know it yet? Mxon could be very telling..

These things tend to go in cycles, we are approaching the end of an era in MXGP, so it would make sense. Having said that the 3 best riders in MXGP from last year haven’t really been able to be a factor this season for a number of reasons. So I wouldn’t draw too many conclusions based on this season alone

It's usually only one or two riders from either side that is the major difference.. I always think it's a bit silly to say one side is faster than the other when the person was winning in their series as well.. Like if Jett goes out and dominates at des Nations does that mean AMA is better? Considering Jett has been dominating the AMA!

If you copmare the current leader of both series, I would say AMA > MXGP

If you compare the top 5, then AMA > MXGP

If you compare the top 10, I would say it might be even.

MXGP quality over quantity. Closer racing & more competitive.

AMA is quantity over quality for the most part.

I think Jett is the stand out talent, but as Tim proved last year, MXGP winners can beat him where no one in AMA did all year.

Greater track diversity maybe Jett would struggle more in MXGP.

“Quality over quantity” is a weird way to justify 20 rider gates at a professional event lol

That’s what I’m saying , are we in the next ama cycle?

Funny how it’s moved from America vs the World to AMA vs MXGP.

GP's really flounder when you compare 20-40.

The AMA has Jett who is setting a very fast pace. It’s stretching all the riders atm. The US Natz and the mxgps are unique and it’s hard to say which is faster.

Gajser favorite track and best performance of the year (a little bit lile Gifting this sunday) though

Weird it seems these kinds of topics triggered you. Everyone on the planet who rides dirtbikes knows Jett is the fastest in the world. It would be better to say Australians vs world at this point. However, the thread was about ama vs mxgp so that would be about as relevant as your post. Make a new thread that’s Americans vs the world so everyone will take the world(who has a brain) and you can feel good about it.

Our series does have more international flavor than it used to have . Damn carpetbaggers 🙂

TIGA243 said otherwise last year when he let Jett know how it’s done at MXoN.

It is anyone’s race any given year. So many variables and that’s why everyone lines up each time.

All they need to do is have one fly away AMA at a Lommel for top 20 in series, mix with top 20 MXGP.

Vice Versa for MXGP AMA can choose the track.

Heck they could even do a one off PPV package for each one, who’s going to miss that ?

Amazes me the powers that be miss the opportunity…

Seems like both series have grossly overstepped their bounds:

MXGP unable to fill gates in various locales

SMX leader = Justin Cooper by nearly 100 pts due to inability to keep riders on the track. Justin is aiming to walk with a seven figure payout by simply exisiting and surviving an AMA season.

The one thing we have to help gauge is the large contingent of international riders in the AMA races who will likely be representing their countries at the MXDN. I don't have the list memorized or anything, but if we see Jett & Hunter, Vialle, Roczen (?), Prado, et. al., finish higher than their GP counterparts, then we'll have a good idea.

The AMA is always well represented on the MXoN podium.  They will be about 10-15% of the riders in the event and often 50% or more of the podium.

But I've always believed that the top riders in either series are very close at the pointy end of the spear.  With the shift from one side to the other being down to one rider...  Like Herlings in his prime and Jett right now.

Yeah. Only one guy can be the fastest, and that's the dude everyone is racing against, regardless of their respective sanctioning bodies.

The balance bounces between the generational talents and currently Jett is the talent and he’s towing the rest of the US guys forward right now aswell

I’d predict that any given race could go:

1- Jett

2- Coenen

3- Febvre

4- Hunter

Chase it too difficult to judge atm. He’s not done enough races to properly judge.
His success at Washougal came after a nice 6 week break. Repairing the body & rejuvenating the mind.

I'd say Jett is above everyone else, but 2nd-10th in both series are pretty much even.

I think we are the tale end of a REALLY fast MXGP era...an era that had more fast riders-not necessarily FASTER riders, just more fast riders-than this outgoing AMA era.  I think the pendulum is swinging back to AMA though for the next generation.  And that's largely because of all the non-Americans racing here (Lawrences, Shimoda, Vialle, etc.) .

Other than Deegan is there any real fast new riders coming out of USA's amateur system that are indeed American the past three, four years? Hymas? Beaumier maybe? Somebody help, I am thinking pro championship contender level, not fast for an amateur. Lot of flash in the pans for sure.

Ha hardly triggered. I actually think it’s a pointless never ending pissing match if taken seriously.
But I was noting that not very long ago the argument changed to AMA from the US, because the international contingent strengthens that side. Good tactic.

Fair take but a healthy herlings and gaiser, plus the venu and you'll see a different running order.

Herlings doesn't get enough credit for coming across the pond, riding a strange bike and going 1-1.

Things to consider:
Vialle has been almost obsolete in his AMA Motocross career.
Prado is looking even worse than Vialle..

So AMA way better than MXGP, like I've been saying for years.

Idk a thing about amateurs in the US but dudney was impressive. I don't even know how far back we have to go to find someone with similar results in their rookie race
