Happy Ending.
You got me! 😂
Crazy lucky.
Nearly 2 weeks from now, I'll be attending the celebration of life for my friend and fellow Auburn mechanical engineering graduate who recently died in some accident on an MX track. He actually sent you his YZ125 left side engine case a few years ago to get it repaired from the countershaft bearing area breaking apart.
We're from Alabama, but his crash was at some track near San Antonio, where he had taken an engineering job with some robotics company. Don't know how he crashed, but somehow he ended up with 2 skull fractures and zero broken bones.
My last 2 crashes weren't anywhere that violent and I ended up concussed both times. That was it for me as at my age I need every functioning brain cell I still have. Getting lucky now has a more traditional meaning and we are NOT going to discuss how often that is.
Damn, that's sad to hear.
I remember doing his YZ engine case repair and that he said he was also a M.E. I was in the WSU program at that time.
One of my closest friends died of a heart attack while we were riding in 2023.
I'll miss the road trips, time at the track, bench racing, shit talking and garage hangouts for the rest of my days.

Always happy when my friends get lucky, good one @cwtoyota! Maybe next time one of those PNW bikini baristas would be a better option!
There’s that initial “Oh SHIT!” moment when you instantly know “this is going off the rails”…
But, the next movement…when you are literally just hanging there saying to yourself…
“NO WAY! THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN! Huh. I’m not dead? Nice!”
It happens on the track…it happens on a carrier deck. It just happens.
I’m stoked to get to laugh about it with you.
I've had too many to count. I came back from the Gulf War and my wife quickly realized I needed something to...ummm...errr...bring me back from over there. Iykyk.
She said, "Go get a dirt bike...you like that stuff". I went straight down and bought an "88 XR600R. A used/rebuilt sponsored race bike. I raced that thing relentlessly...moto, Hare scrambles, enduros, anything, anywhere. 300 lbs, excessive speed, questionable judgment and surviving means I was often very lucky. Yeah...you can call me lucky.
Having rode same track Saturday that corner was kinda blind. With the brush over growth going into it. Plus it was slightly off chamber.
It was a really fast section lots of braking bumps. Every time I hit it, it would push me to the far right. I almost went over that lil berm myself. That's when I started slowing down more for the corner.
You know the back left corner into a single then drop down Denmark . In 98 it was similar a Tuckerrocky rep wanted to ride my Jeff Wiloh,s Noleen 97 yz125 . I rode his 98 cr250 in that corner I hit it in 2nd clutch on the gas click 3rd on the face . A kicked got me sideways no biggy on my125 I did it every lap. I landed wo & it didn’t straighten out . It shot to the woods wo into the woods I hit the brakes & crashed . 91 jumping the ski flying ramp from the side to drop down a vertical 900 ft maybe at Navarino ski hill . It shot you up 35 ft clear the flat area . Turn the bike in the air 90 degrees & drop 900 ft . I did it clean the 1st time , biggest rush ever. The 2nd time a tree caught the front wheel & my body without the bike flew down the 900 drop . 1st hit hurt then cartwheeled my body to the bottom. I got the back of head to the ground towards the bottom & ko,d. My body was made out of rubber back then & I Loved crashing . But that should’ve broke alot of bones .
DONT bother playing the lottery cause you done used up all your luck kid.😉
Yep, I sent him your way since I've followed lots of your YZ content over the years, having owned an '05 yz125 (same year as my friend's) since 2014.
Apparently, nobody saw the crash happen. I'm tempted to make the 14 hour drive to San Antonio to ride at whatever track it was before the layout inevitably changes too much to try to piece together what happened. And the M.E. in me of course wants to do some root-cause on his bike as well, just in case that's a factor. Just don't know how you get 2 skull fractures and no broken bones on an MX track, other than whiskey/stuck throttle off track into a tree?
Dude was absolutely gifted too. Full scholarship all the way through his bachelors and masters. Only made it to the age of 29 but shredded guitar and several other instruments as well as riding MX and doing photography.
Makes me not feel so bad about being a slower rider that typically doesn't hit the bigger jumps that any given track has to offer, even though at 37 I'm more than capable.
Sorry to hear about your buddy. Cycle Ranch is near SA, and several are up the road in the Bastrop area. You can probably find recent helmet camera vids on YouTube as well. @AJ565 is in that area and may have heard something.
How often? Feels like daily now that I’m over 60…
Dude, my wife must be frigid. I never get lucky anymore. 😒
As for crashing, well - any time I can walk away, I feel lucky now. Glad you made it out alive and unscathed!
Give me some more info and I'll see what I can find out. You can PM me if you'd like. Last bad wreck I knew about was about a month and a half ago where they life flighted the guy out. He was kinda a new rider based on how I saw him riding on track with a new GasGas 250 2 stroke that lived in the Houston area.
Watch Matty B,s AX am day videos it’s loaded with funny crashes . The Pa. ax race 1st night of 2 was the best . Motordome I think it was called .
Message me man - happened at Spoaks in Lockhart. Actually saw it happen for the most part… really sorry for your loss!
Had to be the main track since the pro track was closed a few weeks ago. What part of the track did it happen on?
Pit Row
Messaged.
Glad you’re alright OP! Absolutely bonkers crash for no injuries
Messaged! Thank you!
4 years ago tomorrow was surgery #7 on my non union femur. Next step if that one didn’t work was …. not pleasant. Luckily it worked and grew back together. 🙏 Leg only got an inch shorter (vs like 24” shorter) Sold ! I’ll take it. Did almost 14 miles of single track today on the emtb and prepping bike for tomorrow morning. Do I feel lucky ? Fuck I feel so fucking lucky I almost don’t even wanna talk about it 😂😂😂😂
Have a good evening fuckers

Got the “e-bike” mode figured out thanks. I had to put in a nickname to get there, seemed kinda gay but ok lol
Damn… I hit a tree not even going half that fast in 23’. Wound up completely tearing my superspinautis and, fully tearing my rotator cuff. Spent five months out of work recovering post op.
Glad you’re ok man.
I get lucky with the wife all the time............xxx
