The funniest part of this to me is that, if that time is accurate (3:33PM EST), he tweeted this between motos. lol

altho funny , Eli being like this is just typical athlete saltiness tht he ain’t performing like he should , Steve’s job is to analyze on podcast form wht he see’s thru his eyes , right or wrong
Matthes take on Eli this year is wild ha dude chalks him up as a has been every chance he gets.
He said he’s tapering off in his performance and won’t be the typical “beast mode” Tomac. He’s been 100% correct, from seemingly being fully recovered and winning a moto he’s at times struggled to get a podium.
Exactly right! If Tomac wins an overall, he'd be the oldest pro to ever win a motocross overall, let alone a championship. Matthes being skeptical on Tomac being a true "championship contender" has only been proven right so far and he's correct in saying that Tomac is in unchartered territory at this point as far as age and contending for race wins and championships goes. I don't see it as Matthes saying Tomac is washed up at all.

I think if you have a take on a world class athlete that is unsavory you should let it be known and let it go. I find there to be a lot of disrespect surrounding athletes as soon as they hit any lulls.
So much of our "journalism" is just people deriding other athletes followed by the gloating that they were right. It's real rich that fat steve has hot takes on these guys.
100% was between motos. I think Eli sounds salty. Pulp never shit talked him either. All he said was its going to be hard and no one has ever done anything like it before. If you follow Steve's takes on it so far hes been absolutely right.
The journalists need the remember that the riders are the stars of the show. Not the journalists.
It’s a hard line to walk, if the journalists treat them as you suggest everyone flames them for being nut huggers and not asking hard questions. I think Steve has been spot on with Eli, he is still incredible but Father Time is undefeated
Kdub won a national at age 32 and was only a couple months younger than Eli is now. Stephan Everts won his last MXGP title at 34.
The matthes appreciation circle seems to get smaller each season.
Tomac getting old and not getting an overall yet has my heart breaking slowly.
So what you’re saying is if Eli won a pro motocross overall he’d be the oldest to do it? Cool, that’s exactly what I said.
Well aren't you special? Let's give you an award for what you said:

Have some class.... Don't show the world your ass..... Some of the best advice my Daddy ever gave me. Try it, Sir.
Miss you Daddy.....
Honestly the whole calling Steve a lib thing is so tired.
The dude is pretty center in most things and a live and let live minded guy if you actually listen to his takes instead of getting triggered.
It’s funny that our sport is so dominated by upper middle class white people and we have probably the single most conservative sport by a long shot. It’s ok to have people with different perspectives. Alienating anyone with a differing opinion does not help the sport grow whatsoever. I like lots of people with different opinions than mine. And if we both like dirtbikes then that’s cooler than talking about some dumbass hot button news article. Let alone fireworks? Like bro cmon.
At least another 2 weeks of material for the clickbait journalists
In their role as moto 'journalists' they are actually performing two separate tasks - which in real journalism are usually kept separate, but not always. That is, reporting and commentary. In this case, Matthes is commenting on the sport, not reporting on it. Therefore, it's perfectly fine for him to criticise Eli if he wants. These riders should stop giving two fucks about what the fans and the moto 'media' bros think and focus on their own performance. It seems Eli did his yearly tweet in an angry mood because he'd just got well and truly smoked in the first moto. That's not Matthes' fault.
No they don't. They need to report on the sport, and when wearing their opinion hats, comment on it. The riders have got used to being deepthroated by the moto 'media'. They'd get a shock how things are in sports with real media.
Pit Row
Sigh. Age impacts upon athletic performance. Eli is getting pretty old. Just because someone wins on the rare occasion it does not mean they're just as good as they always were. If they were they would still be winning all the time. As for Eli, not only is he older, he is now going up the greatest rider the sport has ever seen - who incidentally, is 21-years-old.
Lordy I wish I could say that it's uniquely a US thing, but it's errywhere now. The ole "if you aren't 100% with us, you must be 100% against us" mentality. That sorta crap just divides and creates more stupidity and hate than it ever solves.
Unless it's some Aussie that thinks that Pavlova is theirs, those people can go right to ....
The greatest rider the sport has ever seen has 15 AMA Titles and 150 wins. It ain't Jett, BTW. Perhaps that will change in the future, but right now it's Ricky.
But I do appreciate your decent response though. As opposed to the condescending loser, aeffertz, and the 22 losers who downvoted me.
think tomac is obviously not comfortable on the bike at the moment.... dont think age is a factor here.
Or that other guy, #18, or #1, is just faster then he is...
Weird thing is in SX he's never looked as good as he did this year. Came out at pala and matched Jett after 2 whole seasons off and missing SX. I think he’s unhappy with the bike, his performances are reminiscent of his last couple years on Kawi. If they’re STILL searching for a setup this far into the season i think that tells us all we need to know. With that said I do think Jett and Chase are a tick faster atm, but it’s hard to get to that next level when you’re fighting with the bike.
Best post in this drivel, thnx Alph
Pavlova, just like Lamingtons, Split Enz and Cole Davies, they’re all Aussie 😂
I like pulp and we generally will listen to it on the way to and from the track. I think Steve ultimately has done some good things for the sport. I agree with Steve on a lot of his takes on moto, disagree heavily on politics but whatever. One thing is certain though, he seems to constantly be the center of some kind of drama.
Isn’t Eli entitled to his own opinion just like Steve?
I think what Eli is saying is, at last I’m out here doing my job unlike Steve who doesn’t even shown up to the “press” conferences. The fireworks jab is just a shot at him for shi…. on American patriotism, again Elis opinion.
He also said he wasn’t feeling well, I for one get salty well when I feel under the weather as well.
If you aren’t feeling well why would you waste your time tweeting between motos, especially when it’s not your usual thing? Just seems out of character and more like someone found his phone unlocked
And if you're not feeling well why did they tell the media (JT) to not share that? Knowing a rider isn't feeling well would make him dropping anchor in moto 1 make sense and his great starts/3rd in moto 2 that much more impressive.
