I saw at least 4 people jump early on both sides of the box
Looks like Jett was docked 1 lap for apparently “jumping the gate”
They've consistently dropped the gate about 4 seconds after the board went sideways, and shared that info with the Lawrence camp at the start of the season. John Tomac was in charge of the gate drop today.
Wait…
What…
Is Twitch racing?,
Shhh - nice bait!! - now you done it - how many hours on screw tube...

Ridiculous to dock him when he obviously got no advantage.

I guess usually when guys jump it's only split second so by time they contact gate it is starting to fall. He jumped early enough that it wasn't falling and fell forward when he hit it, so "fouled" the gate by definition of the rule. Penalty is one lap or DQ.
This isn’t Nam, there are rules
Absolute joke
Not true…. Had he backed out from the gate and then went, he would have been much farther back than 23rd. By going after he knocked it forward, he likely gained 10+ positions over where he would have been. Plus, per the rule, he “fouled” the gate. Penalty is 1 lap or DQ.
Stoopid!
1 lap penalty is deserved when a rider jumps the gate and goes into Turn 1 with a 14 bike length lead. Not when the rider comes out in P23.
i under why AMA made that decision, theres rules in the rulebook Jett did technically break. 1 lap penalty is harsh for this situation though. Id expect them to revise and make adjustments to this rule in the future
He should have come out P40 not P23 AMA got this one right.
Jett did not deserve the Alessi penalty.
Did they do it to close the points gap trying to make the championship race go all the way to the final moto?
Paging J-Law ..... J-Law, please show the folks what a proper gate jump is...
Mark it zero or you are entering a world of pain.
Pit Row
When you hit the gate and flip it forward, you screw up everyone around you
They are just trying to keep excitement in the series and sell tickets. I doubt that penalty is handed out to Sexton if he did the same thing or a rider out of the top 10.
If anything there should be some sort of room for deciding if a penalty is given out depending on if there was a true advantage.
They have room to make a judgement on the penalty when a rider goes off the track and comes back on. They can decide he is fine and no penalty or penalize the rider. Seems like it should be similar in this case. Jett is one of my favorite riders to watch, But I don't like that rule no matter what rider it may have been if it happened the same as it did with Jett. If he just kept it pinned and had a 2 second lead by the holeshot line , yah DQ or loss of lap sounds fair. But he backed off and pretty much tanked his start because of the jump.
Backing up and resetting his own gate wouldn't be possible. It would just flip over the other way. Unless its in the rules that You are supposed to back up and flip the gate back, saying it was an advantage because he did not do that is just crazy talk.
Oh well, I'm happy to see Hunter get a win. I would much rather see Hunter and Jett battling it out instead of a win like that for him. But the check still cashes and the trophy will look the same 5 years from now.
I saw it as a gate malfunction. The gate is not supposed to fall forward.
I believe the rule says “rider MAY be penalized by 1 lap”. That word MAY being in there leads me to believe it has some room for review to determine if the rider got an advantage. I guess the officials determined that Jett had some sort of advantage there.
I think it’s a really harsh penalty for a guy who got a 23rd place start after getting hung up. I think a guy who jumps the gate and runs away (like the JLaw gate jump from back in the day) should get docked. I don’t think it should come into play on a mistake like this.
Yea an entire lap penalty seems kind of crazy. That means that basically no matter what if a rider hits the gate they should just pull off because their race is ruined. I can see giving them a penalty if it gives them an advantage, but a whole lap means your race is destroyed automatically. Seems like the penalty doesnt fit the crime. I’m not saying dont give them a penalty, but even if jett had jumped over the gate jlaw style it wouldnt have given him a 1 lap advantage, so taking away a lap seems too far. Maybe a few positions? Idk.
Couldn't comprehended how this would get so many down votes, until I realised the gate went forward after it was hit.
It was weird because 99% of the time in that situation the wheel would jam under the gate and you’d have no choice but to pull back and clear the gate before going.
In this case I’m unsure what Jett should have done once the gate fell forward?
Either way a full lap penalty seems harsh - that’s a full 2+ minutes.
Its either 1 lap penality or DQ so they made the right call
I think they have just opened a can of worms, if anyone hits they gate and beats you, Protest that they should be a lap down if it falls forward or backwards they were technically in front of you went the gate dropped, in Jetts case it went forward when he hit it, so what was he supposed to do in that case just stop? Go straight back to the pits?, lay his bike down and flip the gate back over?, what is their solution as to what a rider should do in this situation.
