Larocco with an early scrub?
We have yet to identify #189 on the Honda.
I was at Kenworthy's I think the first year of the widow maker, I remember walking the track with my friends and wondering why this big mound of dirt was in the middle of nothing with a little mound and then a big mound thinking to double that would be tricky as it was right up against the big mound.
Saturday I was on the starting gate waiting for the race that was on the track to finish and JD Collins cleared the entire thing. I was like holy shit. Even the announcer was like WOW JD Collins cleared the Widow maker, I had not seen anyone do it or even try up to that point. Cause of him I went home and built me one , I wanted to be able to jump like JD. The next year I came back and jumped it. He was even pitted next to us and was I nice kid. It was sad to hear he had passed.
#3 Honda is Johnny O
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
That's George Holland. Johnny O' rode for Suzuki in '88.
I can’t name one rider!!…..But those are some cool pics
There is no #23 noleen/sizzler yamaha ,it's yamaha of troy and it's Wey in 2001. Both pic's of #21 yamaha are Metiasevich in 1994.
That was the jump from the pro section back onto the normal track. Not so much of a scrub just jumping at an angle back on to the main track if I remember correctly.
Great pics Rup.
Don’t think anyone mentioned Robbie Reynard #593.
Lots of Jeff Glass in there, with the sweet Surf Detergent deal
Who is that in image #3 (89-90 RM125 #18) Ronnie Tichener wore an Aria, looks like that one is a Shoei. Todd Dehoop maybe?
38 is dehoop. first honda of troy rider. he got kehoe hooked up next
also dehoop. i was at there house a lot getting parts for those 89-90 rms
Looks like Tom Carson? Just a shot in the dark
Gotcha. Cool pic!
Probably the most obvious outside sponsor this sport has ever had. Kind of makes me wonder why other riders/teams haven’t gotten detergent companies to sponsor them on a big scale.
Once I looked on computer, what I thought was a 23 on a Nolen Yamaha was #21 on Yamaha and thought 2nd #21 was a Nolen Yamaha. yep bigger picture can see its Matiasevich. I stand corrected
#189 is Mighty Mike Katin.
I think #19 on the YZ125 (second pic) is Mike Craig.
Pit Row
Great photos! I can name almost all of them and the year. I'm getting old!!!
Also, I enjoy MXGP so there was racing this weekend.
David Hand still races a little. The Midwest racers a tick slower still race in the Midwest a lot . Quite a few wrong I think 18 is Jimmy Gadis rm125. Your best thread ever Rupter X.
I had to look back at some old Giden State National races
It is Mike Larocco in 1989 sporting the sweet blue YZR/AXO gear.
Craig was #59 in 1989 and wore fox.
Your memory is better than mine, sir.
Hell yea! Loving those early 2000’s pics
Image #8 (189 on Honda) looks a lot like Larry Brooks
The second set of photos has a shot with J-Law in it!
I was a moto obsessed kid in the late 80s, early nineties. The photos and magazines from that era are permanently etched into my memory. Plus I had a poster of that "Larocco's business suit" ad on my wall that i got from the local yamaha dealer.
I'd like to see prime Dogger up against Jettson
