Was talking with a buddy the other day about the riders switching teams for 26. We had different takes on things.
My friend is more of a rider centric type of fan, in this case, he is an Eli guy and is bummed that Eli is likely moving to KTM but will still be pulling for him next season.
Myself, I tend to be more of a team or brand type of fan. I have been a fan of KTM since before the Kelly Smith, Donovan Mitchell era. So I get excited when the team signs someone like Dungey, Canard, Coop, Chase etc. I wasn't really a fan of Chases when on the Honda, and I actually despised Coop before he was on the orange bike, but became a fan while he was on it. I've kind of been a fan of Tomac for the past 2-3 years but will likely be even more of a fan next year.
Obviously there are riders I cheer or have cheered for for no matter the team, guys like Shorty, Deano, Chiz, MC, Windham, Wey, etc.
So where are you guys at? Does your allegiance typically follow a rider from team to team, or are you a die hard team guy and cheer for the riders when they join the team?
I never really understood rooting for brands/teams over riders... to me, it's like rooting for a corporation.
I can get behind individual riders by appreciating their personalities, work ethic, comeback story, riding style, etc. But teams are hard for me to "root" for because it's just a collection of dudes that make business decisions/work on bikes, who are ultimately reporting to other people in suits in either Japan or Austria.
I do have opinions on which teams are operating more effectively from time to time, e.g. I think Star Yamaha and HRC Honda both seem to be exceptional at developing race bikes and allowing rider input to carry a lot of weight, whereas I have my doubts with other teams (mainly Factory Kawi, but I used to feel similarly about Red Bull KTM). But I only care about these things in relation to how they may affect the riders, not for simply caring about the teams themselves.
If Tomac rode a horse I’d still be rooting for him.
I generally follow the rider, but I've always been a Honda guy. So, there's a weird dichotomy happening while watching Tomac and Jett race. 😀
Riders.
I’m happy whenever Tomac, Sexton, AP, Webb, or either Lawrence wins or does well. I also enjoy the rare occasion when someone else wins too.

I’m definitely rider first in Motocross but team first in MotoGP.
Rider first but the RM Army guys may feel differently.
Mostly rider is who I cheer for. But, for some reason, I tend to cheer for the PC team in 250s, almost regardless of riders. I guess I'm just cheering for Mitch 😁
Yeah I pull for Mitch and Troy Lee, don't really care what OEM's are behind them.
Super rootin for Kenny on the RMZ! I wasn’t bothered either way when he was on a Honda.
Tbh, I’ll always root for the underdog- whether it’s rider or brand.
Guys don’t forget to downvote the motocross related threads on the motocross forums.
Racing fan
It makes since to root for teams in Formula 1 and MotoGP (don' t understand why fans like Ferrari so much, though) since the car/bike plays a huge role in the outcome of the race. But with motocross, I feel like it's much more dependent on the rider.
Got me one for some reason, so it's on the right track.
I will cheer for my fellow Aussies first, however if there are none, I'll definitely cheer for the underdog.
Btw us Aussies ain't "rooting" for any rider.
I just want to see competitive racing, dont care who or what bike. I dont know any rider personally, and would own any current bike.
I am a Honda guy, but a Tomac 1st and foremost but also want Jett to win if Tomac can't.
"A little bit of neither"
As a fan of a manufacturer? When I was growing up, I ALWAYS rode Honda's. I ran a Suzuki one year, and a Kawasaki when I worked for a Kawasaki dealer. Right now, I own an old CR250 Honda that I will restore one day, and a KTM200SX that hasn't been started in years. But I really don't care who rides what on the pro level.
As a fan of a rider? Again growing up it was all Hannah. Then Johnson, then Bradshaw, then really nobody until Deegan.
I really don't care who is racing and what they are riding. I just want to see great racing. What do I consider good racing? I want to see a rider who wants it so much more than anyone else that they will damn near kill themselves working and riding so hard to beat everyone else on the track. I want that rider to think that he IS better than everybody else on the track. And I really don't want that rider to be quiet about it.
Hannah. Johnson. Bradshaw. Deegan.
Yup.

Rider first BUT always want to see Mitch and PC get wins!
Pit Row
When I was a kid in the 90's, we all rooted for teams as much or more than we did riders. Team Honda was the powerhouse we all loved. Best bikes, best riders. Local hero Doug Henry getting an HRC ride was legendary. I couldn't care less what bike someone is roding now. I feel like rooting for a team is outdated and judging by the poll, most feel the same
Rider always…
Although I do have a soft spot for seeing a Suzuki running in the top 5.
Eli. Don’t care about team.
Dont care much about teams but i am a little concerned if Eli goes to ktm and also for Chase on a kawi. I get any good rider can adapt to other high level bikes, but something has seemed off. AP struggles with set up and he oughta know that bike like the back of his hand by now. Chase struggled early but looked incredible in sx. I just hope Eli doesn't have those struggles. I still think if DF never left yamaha, hed still be relevant. Hope we don't see those issues eith Eli or Chase.
I like most every top level rider in their own ways. I respect them all for their ability. I can't even wrap my head around it really and this will be my 30th year of moto. Lol
I'm a fan of elite dominate phenom type of riders that's where I get my most enjoyment and if there's 2 or 3 of that caliber it's even better.
I am a bit of a Honda fan but mostly I am a fan of all riders putting theirs bodies (and minds) on the line for the sport I love, I respect all of them might cheer slightly higher for some tho
Fan of the rider
Yup, it's all about the rider.
Riders: most likely underdogs who occasionally shine but also ”NFG” persons like Magoo, Leichen, J-Law, H Deegan or magicians like JMB, Pourcel, Jett.
Team: Yamaha in the Reed/DV/Ferry days, and now: Club MX
Not trying to sound like a dick but who care’s about the brand of the bike! Our sport has alway’s been about the athlete performing especially in 2025, I feel that the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s fans would lean more towards the brand of bike than the 2000 and onwards fan’s.
I'm a Hunter brothers fan and Cole Davies fan.. bit biased being Aussie. But I'm also rooting for AP, Eli, Mookie. Honestly I like anyone that's respectable on and off the bike, like the guys I mentioned. Couldn't care what team there on
