Wow, that looks even more difficult to use than I thought!  Pretty amazing that he’s adapted that to Supercross!

Wow! I can’t imagine the fancy frickin finger work it takes to do that!! Well done Max!

He has to be running a recluse auto clutch. I read about that CLAKE brake...i think it also modulates the clutch when pulled...that with the semi-auto clutch sounds awesome!!!

I tried running a rekluse with my Clake and had so much trouble getting snappy power I needed out of corners and such. So I just run the Clake.

This particular Clake is just a hand brake and doesn’t modulate the clutch at all.

The team isn't under any obligation to promote them, but unlike tires on their semi this is a component that is making a huge difference on the track, and it's a fascinating look at how a rider is using technology to overcome an injury.

Yeah I don’t think it’s on Club to promote them.

I think it’s on the media peeps to do the digging and give the credit to the right people for inventing something completely out of the box that’s supercross ready and is the tech than saved a nepopros career…

Yes - it's down to The Media, who put pictures of it, attributing a product to a company That Did Not Make It, to Not get it wrong.

The Team has an affiliation with ASV, obviously, but to call the Clake that, at the time, was wrong / misleading.

As I wrote, the minute I saw the first picture, here, a while back , with the Blacked Out lever, Not the Silver finished lever as can be  seen now, I put in a comment, on this site, as to what the actual Brand the Lever / Master Cylinder was.

It's easy, if you have but the modicum of skills.

I've pretty average skills, but someone like Vohland, it would be easy. Just use it, and develop the muscle memory.

With the Clake SLR, you can perfectly position it for single finger use, while Easily still being able to use the other levers, with the close 'plane' they can be set up with.

Not how there's the quite 'distant' settings you can see with the earlier, non Clake set up pictures that can be found.

I easily ride with my first finger on the top lever (I've made), that is the clutch in my case, with the LHRB being the Brembo MC right below it.

It may sound strange, but having your first finger (very) slightly up, and on the end of a lever, with one, or more of the others on the very close lower lever, is perfectly natural / easy to use.

Vohlands set up, being the opposite, of course.

How long has Vohland had the ankle issue?  I’d assume that he struggled with it for a while before deciding to try the hand brake. Has he been affected by this at least a little bit since he turned pro?  That would begin to explain what most saw as his underperforming results during his first couple of seasons.

It’s great to see him progressing so much this season. It sort of seems like we’re just starting to see why there was so much buzz when he first turned pro. He’s definitely got some determination as it would have been much ‘easier’ to just give up.

Wasn't there some discussion about him maybe turning pro too soon...which may have contributed to his injuries?  Not stating this as fact...Just asking.

I don't think it was in the Vohland's plan for Max to go pro yet but KTM wanted him too. So Max wanted a 2 yr deal to turn pro. That's how I remember it

After a few rides the muscle memory takes over and it is was easy!! On track you can keep your feet in a neutral postion as much as you want and on technical trails if you need both feet down for a steep one, guess what!!

You make a good point. I remember the one at Straight Rhythm and would not be surprised at all if they kept any lingering issued secrete, especially since he was just a rookie.

I forgot about his crash at Straight Rhythm but he walked away from that one. It was a practice crash at Indy in 2021 where he first dislocated his hip that put him out for the rest of SX. That was the year he checked out at Pala until his bike blew up.

Thanks for the correction, my brain remembers it as RBSR, and I don't even remember the Indy incident. Weird!

If only you knew how common it is for parts from one brand to be passed off as another, or covers being installed to represent a product that's not really there. It happens all the time with most every team. I bet you'd have a hard time finding a major team that isn't doing it in one way or another.

So I ride an adaptive bike and use a CLAKE, an Aussie invention that combines the clutch and he rear break into one lever — along with a bunch of other cool clutch/hand brake products.

I needed a quick service on my Clake after 5 years and took my bike out to his little shed on a farm in regional Australia. I mentioned Max VOHLAND and he said they ordered one without saying anything to him, changed the colour so no one noticed it was a Clake, and they have since ordered 2 more… (although it seemed in the broadcast it’s the standard colour)

So while on the broadcast they say ‘I’ve never seen anything like it’ I wanna give prop to the old make in a shed in regional Australia whose desire to make it easier to ride hard enduros and supermoto just got their first SUPERCROSS PODIUM!!

Max uses a Clake SLR
I use a Clake Pro

Agreed. That’s way cool man

Oh, I know that perfectly well, young man. 😁

I've been around for a long time, and been in the MC Industry, and other Motorsports and Wheeled Sports, for decades.

And, I've had quite a few of my 'things' that I make, re-labelled.

Some to my knowledge, and financial gain, others, just blatant rip offs.

I think it’s bad ass and he’s been killing it! When he was on the Ktm I wondered how he even got that ride with those results. But now he is crushing it and only getting better!

They switched to Clakes and he said the brakes are way more powerful.

Yeah, the first setup he had was the Rekluse brand rear handbrake which has been around for a long time and known to be finicky.
