Thats SIlver Valley and there are def smaller jumps than 70ft.  Thad does prep it for the A/B group and is okay if you dont like it.  If only he opened more than once a year.

This was right when I started riding again in 2023, the last braking bump on the far right ended several people's day. I didn't mind the bomber track being so rough, I feel like there's room for it, and the throttle goes the other way.

The classic though, I really wish they'd not prep it the same. I feel like the layout is technical enough without knee deep ruts across the whole track. This weekend was my first race there in 12 years and the classic track was unrecognizable, I wish they'd at least prep them differently just to have more variety, I don't like racing on it anymore.

I thought the same lol. I love some braking bumps and ruts. It really keeps it interesting. I have an off-road background though, so maybe that's why I prefer it that way. I love a rough track.

There is a quad TT track right down the street from there, you would love it.

That looks good to me! It's not 2 foot deep ruts, but still has lines to hold you.

Actually, the track I race most often is probably one of the deepest and gnarliest in the whole country.  Us vets all bitch about it, but the mini bike parents (who spend way more than we do) want it like that to prep their kids for Loretta’s.  The promoters say that keeping it that gnarly actually reduces injuries because it slows the track down so much.

You think those conditions are good? Maybe I would feel differently if I went to the track and rode the whole track….just looks like slot car racing…are you the track owner? Straight to the quad rider flat track jokes😂

I’m just an old guy that hits local tracks during the week for the most part.  With exception of MX. 20 which I hit on the weekends sometimes.  I’m not hitting any tracks right now with torn groin and tendon in my hip!

The track closest to me, Ultimate MX is Vet friendly and not deep disc/race prepped.  I can’t do the deep cut tracks anymore.  The owner of MX2.0 cuts the inside line somewhat deep sometimes but leaves outside line Vet and kid friendly.  I think he calls it a factory prep.

I pretty much got stuck in the mud at Rio Bravo on the day track once.  It was cut crazy deep and watered.  I got my old ass off the day track and back on the night track lol.   Night track way easier to ride for this old guy.

I can’t blame track owners that have a bunch of fast riders that like the race prepped type tracks and deep prep.

Torn groin and tendon...that sounds familiar ! Just did that Sunday and it is painful. Torn hip abductor muscle. They told me 3-4 months to heal. Not sure about that but I feel your pain

I'll agree with the top pic, with the way the track flows, it gets fun getting creative with lines to avoid the gnarly stuff. Bottom pic may look good but I can assure you it was not fun to ride, for me at least 🫠 like I said, it was after a very long layoff and was the most rutted track I've ever seen (including Red Bud amateur day back when it was the day before the national). They have 2 different tracks, the one on top is out in a big open area, the 2nd one has been there since the 80s and winds through the trees, always used to be fairly hardpack and you could move around in a lot of places. My own selfish desire is for them to prep the classic track a lot shallower and keep ripping the Bomber track deep.

I pulled those photos from Silver Valley's instagram because it's the roughest and deepest track I've ridden.

I think the deep stuff is super fun because it's more technical with choosing creative lines and maintaining good technique. Those pics are from the end of the day, it was smoother eary in the day.

You're right, the quad joke was a kind of a low blow.   I rode a track recently that had 1 quad do a zamboni lap every 20 minutes to keep the corners smooth, and I'm still holding onto the rage.

You're in the minority thinking it is fun. I don't find it fun having to concentrate. The entire time just to stay up right. Speeds are slower because people don't want to crash and get hurt.

You can't get creative with lines when there's a bunch of ruts you get locked into. For many of us it's driving the fun factor downward. And it scares the beginner beginners away.

Nothing fun about cross rutting up the face of a jump. Or bottoming out when you land into a deep rut and get thrown off the bike.

I might be in the minority on VitalMX ,but in the real world, the tracks that prep it deep get more people.

You would be surprised. When they have practice or races they are always packed. We are lucky in this area to have many tracks to choose from beginner tracks to advanced tracks.  Just cause you dont like it doesnt mean others dont.

Not everyone likes triple jumps either some do. You stating facts or just opinion. Or is it more so there's only so many tracks in the area. And people will just go there anyways and put up with the conditions.

NC / SC is absolutely littered with motocross tracks,  plenty of options.
Been a while since I lived there but a weekend "light prep" day a track might get 30-50 while a deep prep/race prep at the same track will easily surpass 100+ bikes.

I always find it funny how so many people who've never held a hose or sat on a dozer are such experts on track prep.

Deep and rutty is 1000000000000000% better than ice smooth and sun baked.

Yeah but it’s not simply one or the other.

No right or wrong in ones opinion on what they consider good prep…I do think people confuse rough with rutted….rough to me is large breaking bumps, square edges or rolling,  deep whooped out sections and turns that have ruts from hard breaking upon entry  and hard acceleration upon exit……. I don’t t equate a deeply ripped & heavily watered track, that forms ruts along the entire track to be necessarily rough…. Very technical, yes…I understand why track owners are doing this, if major races are prepped this way, then its good practice for those who race these races. I also can see why tracks in very hot, sun baked areas adopt this method to keep from drying out to soon during the day…I grew up on rough, ungroomed sand tracks, I enjoy rough tracks, I just don’t consider rut tracks as rough….

Not a fan of ruts on jump faces or landings but the deeper you can make the rest of the track the safer it feels to me  🤷

I raced in the Midwest in the 80s and 90s, I’ll take deep wet tracks early to not have a dust bowl later in the day!! Hitting shit on the track you can’t see because of the dust isn’t ideal!!!🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
