So, apparently AP’s bar is just a Fatbar with a crossbar because he likes the look? He kind of implied he saw ‘it’ on Herlings bike a few years ago. I don’t know if ‘it’ was just the Twinwall or rather the crossbar added to a Fatbar. He said the crossbar does not add stiffness, just aesthetics. Just a place to put the pad. Growing up with a crossbar I have to admit the regular Fatbar pad always seems weird to me. Not a big deal, but something I notice. Note to Renthal, there might be more dinosaurs like me who would buy such a thing if offered.
Edit: I’m still not entirely convinced since it sure looks like a Twinwall to me. Is it April 1st? Need some investigative reporting from Lakewood.

The twin wall?
I would totally buy it. It looks way better than the fatbar.
I’d nearly 100% say the bars at Hangtown were indeed twinwalls, you can see where the outer sleeve ends and the color changes in some pictures.
I agree, saw the same. In the PulpMX pod they said directly that he was not using Twinwalls, he just wanted the crossbar. I have no idea where the truth lies.

He also said he just showed up one day and it was on there like he's been asking for so he didn't ask any questions..... so he might not even know what bars he's got other than he likes the look.
They have to be twinwalls renthal's first fatbar / oversized bar. They had those out before they ever did the non cross bar style.
I've heard of people taking the crossbar off of Twinwalls, but never the other way around. Mav's pics confirm he's using Twinwalls.
Mathes indicated it was out in the public and they could talk about it now, and said directly that they are not Twinwalls. Maybe just lacking the inner wall? I started this to see if someone knows the details. I was just searching bar options and considering a Twinwall for the crossbar but turned off by comments of stiffness. I have not used them. I want a bar that feels like a Fatbar and looks like a Twinwall. Hence this peaking my interest.
It sounds like a Twinwall with a custom crossbar that allows more flex than the standard version. Would be cool to see what it looks like under the barpad.
@Falcon
There was a bunch of guys pulling the crossbar off of twinwalls in the mid 2000s. Seems like things have gone full circle.
It’s common to cut the crossbar to help with flex. It’s noticeable, I’ve done it for years with no issues.
Just buy a twinwall and cut the crossbar. Pad covers up the cut and it feels just like a fat bar. Pros have been doing this for years.
If the ends of the crossbar were rubber mounted it wouldn’t add to stiffness much at all. Rubber inserts with sleeves to keep bolts from tightening on the crossbar would allow it to float. That seems the easiest. Cutting the crossbar seems very sketchy to me.
What I'm saying is that it sounds like they may have made a custom crossbar because it sounded like KTM was against the idea of running a cut crossbar since it's not how the bar was meant to be run and it could be weaker. Or they're just saying it's a sophisticated custom part to hide that they just cut it and put a barpad over it.
It took no time to get used to pro taper bars without a cross bar. I get my chest into the bars to clear big stuff & the extra room makes it easy to get your body ovr the front fender. It makes fender kisses much easier too.
When I heard that I assumed it was a cut crossbar but he couldn’t say that publicly. Off-road guys have been doing this for a long time. You cut the crossbar (some also wrap the cut with electrical tape) and it adds tons of flex. I can understand Renthal not wanting one of their guys to advertise this for liability reasons. I think it’s totally safe though.
Pit Row
Yeah, sounds totally safe to have two metal rods, each attached at one and and free to move on the other.
The wrong kind of contact and those become stabbers...
I never liked the look of the fat bar and always thought the twin walls looked cooler. Most of the pros run the fat bars so I obviously don’t know crap 😂
Real question is why don't they run the Renthal "works" fat bar? Doesn't seem very works if pros don't run it. You'd think pros would want the most flex they can get. The Pro taper carbon bars seem like they would be worth a try.
I’ve never heard of it happening. Sounds scary and crazier things have happened. But that’s some Final Destination shit and probably why Renthal doesn’t want their guys talking about it. I don’t see it happening while it surrounded by that stiff ass foam 5” above and below the cut line. I know the cover is only held on by Velcro but that encases it a bit more too. It’s a chance I’m willing to take.
edit to add: I guess if you were worried about eminent doom and stabbing yourself you could make two cuts. Cut maybe 1.5” inside of each side of the crossbar and wrap it with tape to hold in place. That would ensure a more shallow and less deadly stab in a worst case scenario. You could round the cuts out too.
Well, good luck with that!👍
Check my edited bit on the above post. Not something I’m worried about. But shoot some holes in that theory. Not here to argue. Just thinking out loud.
I had a couple sets of 'factory' twinwalls from KTM and the crossbar was milled out plus ti bolts. Milling out the crossbar didn't make much if any difference.
I'm just going to refrain from any advice on how to do it. A worst case scenario is still a scenario. If there are safer options I'd rather you consider those.
AP was crystal clear he is running a FatBar with a cross bar that serves no purpose other than appearance to use a standard crossbar pad. It is not a Twinwall bar.
Did you look at the photos? That doesn’t look like a Fat Bar to me.
I am just reiterating what Plessinger said directly in an interview 24 hours ago. You can take that however you want
