a picture of a Tamiya 1/12 model got you excited?
Please tell me you knew this was not a real bike.
I actually did make that mistake! Looking at too small of a screen too soon after your optometrist appointment probably isn’t wise!
Oh well, squint your eyes really tight and it looks fantastic.
I tell my wife that all the time.
Doesn't work for me, either. 😄
I built one of these back in the day, my first throught was its the model, just because of how the clutch looked.
I was lucky enough to see one of these uncrated, they just look awesome all in the factory white.
About 3 years ago , i saw one at a track day, that had been in storage unused for 20 years , had 3 dry hours on it, and the guy riding it said it lived in his house between very infrequent outings.
There's a brand new one (as well as NSR250) on the elevator display at Barber, way out of reach of clutch grabbers
That's two of my 250's one 1995 tzr250 other is my 1990 rgv250. I have another tzr in bits waiting on restoration. I had two nsr 250's at one point a '90 n '92.
You can fuck off fella.🙃

I dated a girl who's step dad had an nsr500.
He let me ride it a couple of times. That thing went from zero to oh shit in a blink of an eye. Was as raw as riding a motorcycle can get.
I have a 1987 TZR250R (1KT) that was brought back from Japan by a Navy guy. He got it titled/registered in CA and rode daily to work and a few track days at Laguna Seca, I think. It eventually ended up needing a top end and got stripped down in preparation. He got everything needed to put back together but sold it to another guy in SF. 2nd guy held it for a couple years and never put it back together either. I bought it from him same condition around 2003 thinking I would have it back on the road in 12-18 months- but it's still sitting in same condition in my shop now. At least I got it titled in my name! 😂
You really should get it back together friend has one. It's a blast to ride why I have my collection now.
That was The Nasty one, FreshTopEnd !
Tank was the belly pan, holding the fuel way too low, thus, making the front end push horrendously under braking, among other detrimental effects.
It was quite the lesson in how a low(er) center of gravity, wasn't really the handling panacea some thought it would be!
To top it off, Freddie Spencer had one of the Carbon Fiber ' Comstar' wheels collapse, I think in testing in South Africa.
Honda learned some valuable lessons with that beast, and went onwards to develop what most regard as the Greatest 500cc GP 2 stroke series of race bikes, there ever was.
Pit Row
Was it an NSR500 or an NSR500V?
The NSR500V that recently sold, would have made a great track bike...

I hear ya, they are indeed a blast to ride. I had a 1981 RD350LC Canadian model, a 1984 RZ350 and lots of Yamaha twin 2 strokes from 1969 on. I still have 4 air cooled RD projects in similar condition to get back together. My window of opportunity is closing fast @ 67 with a few more good years likely ahead of me. Maintenance and repairs on the air-cooled bikes is far less time consuming and cheaper so trying to focus on those 1st. Same dilemma with too many old dirt bikes. Gonna keep my Beta, 1987 YZ125 and a handful of 1970's YZ & MX and thin the herd. My wife made me promise I wouldn't die and leave her a mess of bikes and parts to dispose of 😆
Can you imagine what it is like laying on top of those chamber when that engine is at full song?
I can't remember where I saw this but I figured it belonged here
To tell the truth I'm not sure. This was almost 15 years ago and I was just excited to ride a 2 stroke road bike. It wasn't titled or street legal. I spun around some country roads here in nc. Pretty cool experience.
Looked like this model but was all white.
You were brave to ride a GP bike on the road...
I know it wasn't an actual gp bike.
If it was an NSR500 it was a GP bike, the V4 NSR500 was only used by HRC and factory supported teams, the V2 NSR500V was sold to privateers.
The V2 was lighter and had less power than the V4, the V2 was quicker through the corners, the V4 was quicker down the straights, they both produced similar lap times.
I think that's a Tyga Stainless Steel pipe. I went to check on Tyga's website, but they only have the mufflers for the YZ250 listed nowadays. Bummer - they were quite reasonably priced, and, worked well from the majority of reports.
Be Warned : going into their site, can really lure you into some Ultra Trick Road race / Small(er) Sportsbike 'porn'.
I've a SS pipe (not a cone pipe, just a copy of std) for my CRE500 hanging up, among my extra std ones, PCs and FMF, but still use my 'pushed upwards over the years' original pipe, in my rocky / ledged / Log infested terrain.
Funny you mention tyga and small sport bikes. They hooked me up with this brand new 1994 yamaha tzm 150. It's basically a tzr125.
Also hooked up my friend with this 1996 honda Nsr150sp. The Honda had the looks but the yam would pull 4 to 5 bike lengths on it every time.
