And then that guy cashed in on that fame to sell a bunch of outside-of-industry sponsors on supporting a hot new team that added factory-level rides, had the biggest fan experience in the pits, and became the only privately-funded team to win a top level mx championship.
The sport is now worse for not having that type of presence.

Actually I find more casuals enjoy nascar BUT I could never watch a car drive in a circle for hours.
The best MOTOCROSS rider off all time is an African American and that wasn’t even enough to push it mainstream. It still gets “white mans sport” label.
But Motcorss industry fucked itself l, it’s only for the rich and upper class these days. When I was growing up, motocross was a low- middle class hobby. Every kid I knew had a family member with an old 4 wheeler or dirt bike in their garage.
Nowadays the race tracks are filled with wealthy parents with their million dollar RV’s. That’s all cool… but sucks the lower middle class got priced out of the sport.

He didn’t look enamored. It’s a new experience with people most never get to meet. The most famous people on earth. My wife gets to go to events like this due to her being an executive in the non-profit world. She gets donations from famous people. I don’t usually go to the big events but do meet some of the donors from time to time. They are normal people who are just good in their respective professions. Nothing sinister going on. Some of these people dress like bums most of the time.
