This. I played high level travel soccer growing up and started Varsity all 4 years in high school, and raced A/pro-sport in moto. I broke some fingers and tore a knee once in soccer. I have broken collarbones, humorous, wrists, torn knees, an ankle, and multiple brutal concussions from moto.

That being said - at 41, I still moto and haven't played any competitive soccer or even pick up in maybe 15 years or more. Injuries be damned, one is way more addicting than the other.

As a girl dad with a 14 year old who motos, I know Chad is feeling it right now and having deep internal dialogue. All he can do is not pressure her and if she wants to come back on her own and can, that's the path, if she's scared, don't push her.

Tons of science and data out there that the repeated "hits" to the head from heading the ball are not good for you.  Just like the repeated small hits from playing football aren't good for you.

Now....I do know that it's 2025 and we all like to pick and choose what Science to believe so it's all good dawg.... you do you.

The average soccer player heads a ball less than 1x a game. Even in practice it's not something you do in large amounts. I don't think football or rugby is a good comparison for this.

Also, there's a skill to doing it where you aren't just getting hit in the head by the ball. You're meeting the ball where motion meets motion.

I'm not saying no one can get CTE. But I've woke up on the side of a SX track to people thinking I was dead from a crash and that worries me a lot more any of the headers I may have did in soccer.

This. From a lifelong 1st division club player and coach. Risk of concussion from using your head to redirect a #5 ball are almost nil. It's when heads collide going for a 50-50, or any time your head makes contact with something other than a ball, which happens a lot, is where the risk skyrockets.

Get well soon little Miss Reed.

Terrible deal for the poor kid, I hope for the very best possible outcome and she appears to be in great hands with the best family support.  She has been riding her 125 so well and gaining experience.

All the best!!

Good news is that compression fractures are *usually* orders of magnitude less likely to result in life changing issues. Don't ask me how I know...

Wish the young lady a full and speedy recovery. It's never nice to hear about or see kids getting hurt. It sucks.

Man, that's a bummer for anyone.  I fractured my T-5 and T-7 when I was 14 and it's been a struggle every since.

I wish her the best.

As you see the closeness of the Reed family, a true family, who hurts, heals, loves, and remains together. Well wishes

Head injuries in soccer are now called myocarditis.

I would've blocked you too, if it makes you feel any better.

Pretty sure this thread is about young Kiah - period. How about we leave the other crap out of it...

I saw Ellie’s story this morning, Kiah is walking slowly with a walker. I’ve been praying for her total healing, as well as Jerry Robin’s total healing and that he’s able to walk again.

Todays update, happy to see her smiling, laughing, and walking.

Maybe if you weren’t such a d bag shaming a parent on how they choose to raise their kids, you would be able to see the post. Kick rocks dude.

Being blocked seems to be a pattern with you.  Take a look in the mirror.

According to Ellies story, Kiah is out of the ICU now, and is in a normal room with a window now.

Unfortunately he’s the type of clown that will be buried still believing that the entire world is wrong but him.

On more important matters, glad to see the Reed family is able to celebrate some (under the circumstances) good news and prognosis. Getting hurt is one thing-watching your child get hurt is a different thing altogether.
