They should only allow marijuana pills for medicinal purposes.  They should NOT allow it to be smoked in public leisurely. It smells like ass and I don't want that shit around me or my kid when I'm out in public or at a fkn Supercross race at an enclosed stadium. When it was illegal they were still smoking it at every sporting event in Minneapolis. Who's still smoking weed like a high school stoner? Grow up.

What an ignorant, uneducated take. Where did you even draw this 6 beer point of reference? What exactly are you comparing 6 beers to (THC dosage wise)? Over what duration? 6 beers in one hour, would put the average American male (200 pounds) at a .11% BAC (https://www.calculator.net/bac-calculator.html). The amount of THC required to get to that level of impairment would be comical.

Interested to hear opinions on why this isn't a thing.

How can we be perfectly cool with alcohol being legal and not a plant?

Especially interested to hear opinions from Republicans that want "less government" but fully support the government regulating a plant....how do you justify that?

Let adults buy weed, alcohol, pills, etc.

I’m of the mind that adults can decide.

We should be free to choose what we ingest, drink, smoke, shootup, etc.

As long as it’s not hurting anyone else, be free and live well.

Too many fucking laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.

The US is the least free country in the world. From our government to our school systems, to insurance and healthcare.

We are in absolute and complete Bondage to a system of rules and regulations.

Not free at all.

You're not wrong.

Very ironically, the political party who is all about "less government, more freedom" are really the only ones who support keeping marijuana illegal.  It seems as they they don't actually want more freedom doesn't it?

As with anything, it depends on what it is

Both sides are hypocrites on what they want the government to intervene in and what they want to be left alone about

Best quote I saw on this topic was from the leader of a smaller country.  When asked this question he said it will never be legal in his country because it is his job to protect the children from drugs.  Case closed.

George Washington smoked with the Indians quite a bit in Ny. He enjoyed the drums and flute playing a lot according to the Oneida Tribal  history.  GW knew people that where experimenting with paper & fabrics.  GW rolled a big old J , he called it The Empire. Hence the name The Empire State.  Story goes they smoked it till sunrise until they saw Waubenukwa - The moring star.

Fukin A pro you are literal fountain of knowledge,  did a quick google search out of curiosity.

"Empire State" is emblazoned on New York's vehicle license plates and is the namesake of the world's former tallest building, but the origin of the state nickname seems shrouded in mystery. Unlike many of the other state emblems and state symbols, no historian knows exactly where the "Empire State" nickname originated. Some have speculated that the name sprang from George Washington, who referred to New York as "at present the seat of the Empire" in a 1784 letter. Others believe the nickname denotes New York State's wealth, natural resources, and liberty-loving citizens.

The Empire State is a nickname for the U.S. state of New York, adopted in the 1800s. It has been incorporated into the names of several state buildings and events.[1]

The source of the nickname is unknown and has puzzled many historians; as American writer Paul Eldridge put it, "Who was the merry wag who crowned the State ... [as the Empire State]? New York would certainly raise a monument to his memory, but he made his grandiose gesture and vanished forever."[1]

Agree, if that’s the concern then alcohol kills way more people and affects health and mental wellbeing of many more. I enjoy alcohol but in my younger years I would have been better off without it.

If you prosecute crimes that are ancillary to drugs and actually harmful to the public more harshly (theft, assault, DUI, vagrancy) you can have a freer and more safe society. Lots of things are ruined by a small number of bad actors.

Facts.  But most of the time the folks who made comments like he did don't want to discuss that, they just go with "Drugs are bad" based on the propaganda surrounding weed they've been fed their whole lives.

They don't have the critical thinking skills to realize alcohol is way worse than weed in pretty much every way.

I was very lucky.  When I was in the 4th grade, our teacher brought in a pair of lungs from a smoker and a brain from a drinker, and of course a pair of healthy ones.  No one had to tell me anything.  At that young age, my eyeballs told me I wanted nothing to do with any of that shit.

They did the same for us when I was in 4th grade in 1980 ish.

You just never had an urge to drink or do drugs.

Nice.  I hope it is something that is still being done.  Mine was in 1970.

I’m 100% against it in every way, shape, and form.

There is only one way I find it acceptable, but I’ll really upset some people if I say it. It’s been happening, just not as often as it should be.

Downvote away.

Fair enough.

So do you also think that Alcohol should be illegal?

If the answer is no, how do you distinguish between the two?

I also ask, why is alcohol legal and weed not? What's the diffs?

Well.... it impairs you as bad as alcohol, and it has long-term effects even worse. Still -- if one is legal, why cant; both be?

Make it legal, sure. But put all the restrictions on it that's on alcohol --  toking age 21, not allowed in public (with exceptions, like alcohol) not allowed in vehicles for EVERYONE in the vehicle (the dumbass who reckons he drives better when high is too stupid to even have a DL), subject to DUI, not allowed outside "establishments", etc etc etc.

Who disagrees with the smoking ban? Who misses smelling like an ashtray after an evening in a restaurant or bar? That SUCKED, and weed smells even worse. Who knows anyone who got lung cancer from second hand smoke? I don't, but many people do. Who misses second hand smoke?

Smoking doesn't impair you like alcohol or weed, but it's pretty much banned.

So make weed subject to smoking retrictions too.

I am subject to intensive drug testing at work. My job is one of THE most scrutinized things you can do, with ZERO recourse for a positive test. GONE, instantly, lose your professional licences etc. GONE. I don't buy the "no second hand smoke effects" argument about weed. If cigarette smoke has it, weed does too.  I'm not willing to gamble my job on it.   If you're a ditch-digger or move boxes around for a living, I understand, you don't care.... but you also don't get to subject others to your negative habits.

So... I say make it legal, subject to the same restrictions as alcohol and cigarettes. No problemo.

Problem is, hopheads want to smoke anytime, anywhere. Fuck you, if I can't drink alcohol  -- or smoke cigarettes -- anytime anywhere, you don't get to toke that way.  I don't want to smell weed any  more than cigarette smoke -- or puke.

Colorado has turned into bum central since weed was legalized everywhere. Bums >> scams >> crime >> there went Colorado. Used to be heaven on earth, now it's turning into a 3rd world shithole. You been to Denver lately?

Also, weed makes you stupid. My ex-wife smoked for 5 years after she left high school, I saw the aftereffects, and she even said so herself.

I smoked it twice many years ago, just for shits and grins. First time no effect whatsoever, what's fun about that? Second time (in Seattle) I sat at the bar counter "drooling all over myself and staring into space for 45 minutes" as my friends later told me. They laughed their asses off at me.

What fun!

Did I mention, weed makes you stupid?

Lotsa ignorance out there.....

Free the Plant! I’ve never known a pothead to drive the wrong way down the highway and kill an innocent family of five. Never heard of somebody smoking, then beating their wife and kids. Only thing in danger is a bag of Doritos.

Drunks run stop signs, potheads wait for them to turn green.

What an ignorant, uneducated take. Where did you even draw this 6 beer point of reference? What exactly are you comparing 6 beers to (THC dosage wise)? I didn't bring up alcohol...but its a weak ass comparison. Beer doesn't fill the entire room with bullshit smoke that smells like ass. Alcohol is clearly an impairment substance just like weed, that's why they brought it up. So why is an impairment drug allowed while driving vehicles on the road where innocent people are?

No one is asking to smoke weed in public places or while driving, that is probably the weakest logical fallacy ridden excuse mentioned in this thread. But, I will assume that you are consistent across your morals and would be against smoking cigarettes in public. You brought your arbitrary "six beers" into this conversation, injecting more misleading information to the thread. So I ask you, who do you think is campaigning for the legalization of marijuana consumption while driving? Bottom line, you and the rest of the people in this thread repeating the same hysterics need to spend some time educating yourselves.

You say no one is asking to smoke weed in public places is a weak argument. Anywhere you go in Michigan or Ohio now that it is legal has people smoking the skunkiest smelling weed. And last year at Ironman was the same way. I don't care if people want to smoke it, I just don't want to have to smell it all day.

I've been to California 5 times in the last year, almost never smell it. I definitely smell it more in TX. Also, not sure if any of you complaining about the smell are aware of the fact Marijuana can be ingested in a thousand ways other than smoking it.

Where do you get the notion that it’s ‘allowed’ while driving?  In Washington, even though cannabis is legal you can be arrested for even having it in your glove compartment. Any cannabis is treated like an open container of alcohol and if it’s accessible to anyone in the car while driving then it’s illegal.
