Hoping for something more like Seattle. Soft, rutted and technical but still race-able.
Hmmm.
The rest of the SX series being outdoors in the northeast ???
Maybe JA21 is smarter than we think.
For the sake of fuck. Please don’t rain.
My read, as someone who lives in Philly, is it will rain hard Friday night and Saturday morning, with a few stray showers during the race.
Would be smarter to bump the night show up to 7PM rather than 3PM. Leave the track covered until 2PM. then run a short program for the quallys like yesterday.
I will be there rain or shine.
Currently calling for rain Friday and 25% chance all day Saturday.
Let it rain 🌧️
Like anyone has a choice in the matter.
The rain in Philly during qualifying and the heats is forecasted to be .03” per hour which is a light drizzle.
Go by points to make night show assuming more than 40 guys per class show up which is no guarantee. Green white checkers for all the races. Totally legit.
Seriously though if you're a contender don't you prep two bikes with one of them basically being detuned with some giant radiators and soft suspension, etc?
Cant. Network broadcast this weekend.
I feel sorry for the track guys, I can't imagine the long hours they are going to put in during this NE swing.
Have everyone bring in a bag of sand to get in the pits and then put it on the track
Pit Row
wait wait but JT and Weege think everything is normal and ok.
We've had like 10 mud races in the last 2 years, CLEARLY something has changed with the scheduling with open stadiums, dates, etc
But according to the two "media" members that work for the production company and everything is "fine". Its all fine. The production product is fucking awful on TV we miss major moments, we've had more mudders than ever in history, but its allllll finnnneeee nothing is different its all status qou!
Ya know, they'll blame it on global warming...
So you make a good point.
weren't most of those open stadium mud races out west?
Let's move those west coast rounds to other places.
Last I heard from those two they said that SX competes with other sports for stadium space. The stadiums that are covered are usually taken by bigger sports. I have no idea if that's true, I don't follow any sport that doesn't involve bikes!
https://weatherspark.com/s/26197/0/Average-Spring-Weather-in-Boston-Massachusetts-United-States
If they're going to schedule 4 spring races in NE people should expect 2 of them on average to be mud race and chance of any of them getting through week of track build without rain is close to zero.
Plenty of MX fans would love to see an outdoor race in the southeast or Texas and the weather is always used as an excuse as to why that doesn't happen. Not sure why the same logic doesn't apply to SX in the northeast?
My personal dream scenario would be for SX to take over some SEC football stadiums and college towns in the spring. Schedule them around spring break when campus is empty. These schools are desperate for revenue to cover NIL and everything else right now so might be good time to ask. These places entertain much larger crowds every fall. Tailgate area becomes pits. Sign me up for a trip to Baton Rouge, Athens, Gainesville.....
Has that changed since 2022? There has been a noticeable shift in the past 2 or 3 years.
I hate that anytime criticism is brought up with anything to do with FELD (Scheduling resulting in historic amount of mud races, the broadcast, etc) their point is always - "Well people are trying really hard! There's nothing we can do!".
We haven't had as many mud supercross races as the past 2 or 3 years in the 10 years before that. So just all of the sudden closed stadium space is impossible to get?
This is a wonderful idea. NIL is killing off the Olympic sports that don't generate any revenue. Colleges are scrambling to do anything to offset the NIL expense.
Feld needs to strike while the iron is hot. I hope the higher ups at Feld thinks of this. 100% chance some colleges will be open to this.
Aren't almost all NIL expenses paid by boosters and other donors and not the colleges themselves?
I wish they would follow what other sports do. "Game Delay"
You are correct NIL money comes from booster, donors and NIL collectives.....doesn't cost the college any additional money...
More or less, but those boosters are also used to pay coach's buy outs, build new practice facilities, expand stadiums, etc etc.... so adding millions in expenses still hurts. Lot easier to get a booster to dump a ton of money into stadium renovation one time that gets him a luxury box and his name on things than it is to get him to give 17 year olds millions of dollars year after year when half of them will bust or transfer. There's still plenty of money but there's no limit on what you can spend so everyone is always wanting more to try to keep up or get an edge on the competition. A few of them have started hosting concerts lately when that wasn't a thing ten years ago. No idea what feld is paying for a week at foxboro but I'm betting they could get most college stadiums for much less. Maybe not? As someone who spends a few weekends in the fall at SEC games I just think it would be cool atmosphere and might work well for everyone.
