I think its a good move. Many of these guys ride a 250 faster and don't adapt well to a 450.
Schock has several top ten finishes in 450mx.
When I read the thread title I thought there was something startling happening at Daytona.
MX Vault showed no top tens on a 450, and the extra laps at Daytona will be tough for him
You either didn’t look at all or somehow missed it. He has at least a handful of top 10 450 results.

He has 5 top 10 450 mx overalls
4 straight races in 450mx during 2021 on ML's FXR/Chapparal Honda team in 2021. Unadilla 10th, Budds Creek 9th, Ironman 6th, Pala 7th. I know its not SX just pointing out that Shock has had pretty solid results on a 450.

In outdoors yes. I get daytona is not a traditional supercross track but still can imagine him being more comfy on his 250 compared to a 450.
He has 3 or 4 top 10s outdoors on a 450. He’s never ridden a 450 in supercross.

Startling more 250 riders do not ride 450s on the opposite coasts. It used to be pretty common. Actually some 250(125) privateers rode the 450(250) class at the same races the same day to make more money before a rule change no longer allowed that. Riders like Bradshaw and Windham did pretty well in the big bike class when they went to opposite coasts.
I used to like it when they did, I think Jmart got a second at Daytona one year in 450s
Good for Coty, hope he does well! Be kinda cool if they made Daytona a 250 E/W showdown, imho.
