You really think Black History Month is a celebration?

Don't go telling me it's because they or their family were slaves.

I don't think the negative reactions to this kind of media is "racism" as much as it is many people in the general public generally being tired of performative statements from large corporations that don't mean anything. When I think of race relations in America... while there are absolutely still racist individuals in this country (and MANY more abroad), I think about an event that just happened a few weeks ago. A stadium full of mostly white people at an event for a very "red" sport in one of the more "red" states in the country... a setting that some people would view as filled with racism...were on their feet and cheering like crazy for a black man, celebrating his first career 450 win. Probably the most enthusiastic response from a Supercross crowd in years. The people in that crowd are, generally, the same demographic of people that many people in the media and positions of power would lead you to believe are racist. I thought it was an amazing demonstration of the unity that actually DOES still exist in this country.

All these things do is do exactly the opposite they claim or intend to do, they just divide people

With all there's new days and efforts society has never been divided as it is today.

What an absolute sorry state of affairs this fan base is. Someone just wants to read or listen about minorities coming up in a sport that is so predominantly white and all you lot can do is freak out about it, start bringing up DEI, Why Hispanics don't have the same and that this thread is unnecessary. You guys are so angry and hateful about everything, literally everything makes you all so angry. Original poster - I do remember Big James doing an interview about it and he spoke about how they got treated like shit basically.

What does that have to do with Black History month.

Also LMK when they have that for white pros in the NBA.

Righto friend. No doubt racism still exists, is still a problem, probably always will be. But is it really as prevalent and as big of a problem as some would have you believe? We have made huge strides as a society in this area. The people who promote it as such a benchmark of our society use racism more as a way to control us and the narrative, much like they use poverty, sexism, education, the environment, and homelessness, other issues that will never be perfect. America will go down in history as one of the most self-aware societies ever, we do know our faults, yet we are always improving little by little. There is a reason for the term "in a perfect world", because it doesn't exist. Fairness, and safety, are terms used by those that want to control you, any real adult knows they do not really exist.

I think it would be beneficial to stop talking about race, sexuality, religion etc in general. Who cares, good people are good people, and vice versa.

Wonder if there is an instance who benefits if people stay divided or are against each other, can't think any other reason for all this bs...

Actually it's even worse than that.  Black history, pride month, etc. just further divides people because everyone always feels like they are pitted against somebody.  What the NFL has done with the helmets and end zone slogans is also not helping, probably having the opposite effect.  I don't need companies or politicians trying to make me feel guilty every time I turn around for doing nothing wrong...

That was a great read.  I can say, I lived in Seattle 2 years ago, racism is off the charts, the kids in schools can't have a conversation without racism as a topic coming up, and (in kids discussion) they have labeled pretty much everything as racism, as you can guess, this is a hot topic in schools.  But from kids to grown adults, everything is labeled racist.  I moved to the south, everybody loves each other like a brother from another mother.  Old, young, black, white, everyone shows so much respect for each other, help each other, it is so beautifully different.  And yet, the people I am talking about here have labels of being racists (among many other things).  The media sucks, plain and simple.  Just to add to your point, I can say from experience, you nailed it.

As a society we should have 1 annual holiday where everyone celebrates the culture by acting out the most stereotypical behavior possible.
It'll be a lot of fun and bring people together.

I got that idea from St Patricks day, the Irish were the slaves prior to Africans.

The people in this sport are ridiculous

Yep, they seem to hate women and foreigners (except Russians).

Underrated post right here.

I think all Americans should learn their American history, which includes slavery, Jim Crow, redlining, et cetera. SMX doesn't seem like the place for that...

Well put. Crazy to think that the same fan base of the same sport spit on his fathers head, and flipped off his brother every lap for 30 minutes while screaming racial slurs, all while being within ear shot of Malcolm and his mom.

There's 11 of them!

I don't understand why this would be a problem for anyone.. Does it take anything away from any other race?

Or do you guys need 100% of everything always about you and catered directly to you at all times?

That’s true. However, if you’re going to recognize cultural heritage months you should acknowledge them all.

I think the point is most black people in America can't exactly trace their heritage back to a country/region like everyone else.

My brother in law is a black dude from the US and one day we were talking about my/my sisters mix of heritage and I naively asked about his and the furthest he could go back was the white family that bought his ancestor and had him as a slave.. That hit me pretty hard
