Maybe it wasn't the Honda front end after all

Chase is gonna win the title and he also may throw it away. I think he will get away with it this time but we all know he wouldn't if Jett and Eli were here.

Webb might pull it off too though. After the third race, you could see him pull his left hand off the bar to let it rest. I think he legitimately has some pain in that arm and keeps re-aggravating it.

as I said to chris in a thread couple days ago, tonight is just another example of his race craftsmanship hasent caught up to his skill set & speed yet , he can still go out & lay the wood on folks on any given day but big picture wise if he wants to continue to win titles against the likes of Eli , Jett , coop & even Kenny , he gotta fix tht issue

I'm not a psych but it takes a lot of  neuroplasticity to rewire how your circuits react under pressure. Not saying it's impossible, but it's not exactly teachable either. That hindbrain is pretty stubborn.

under pressure wise I think he ain’t as a big of a choker per say as some would think , I just think he lacks race situational iq if tht make sense but even with tht , thts a huge problem when going against somebody in coop where thts 1 of his main strength

It’s like you all forgot that Eli used to throw away championships by having strange crashes and then taking minutes to get going. Took time to fix his pants to let valuable points go to The Dunge. A couple years later, and a RD retirement, and he became the people’s champ. Is it likely Chase will throw away this championship? Maybe. Is there a chance he goes on figure out his mental lapses? Maybe. If nothing else at least he’s making this season something to watch instead of a yawner with him winning all the races…

that whats i meant mainly. im not going to call him a choker bc i don't think it's like that. he doesn't really slow down and "ride tight" so much. but theres some instinct that translates into what manifests as racecraft or lack thereof, though he does seem to ride with more confidence coming from the back.

Eli is definitely not on my Champion Mindset (tm) Mt. Rushmore. though watching him in person come from the back of the field on a nasty watersogged rutted track in Oakland a few years ago (2017?) was one of the most insane things i've ever seen in my entire life.

Agree. But he should know going in he can finish behind Webb and still win

Fan of Sexton and it was a tough race. Some guys take longer to overcome a mental hurdle. To me, it looked like Chase felt good on the bike and wanted to make a statement to Webb and say not so fast. He will get it back

Vital makes me laugh.  It sucks for Chase and I feel bad for him…but like Kenny’s sand adventure….he was just going for it and thought he had room.  Good for him going for it…even if not the best decision championship wise.  He’s only 6 points back with most of the season left.  He’s usually faster than Coop, so this might make him make better decisions.  If any of you have a very competitive nature, and have been in competitive sports, then you know this feeling of going for it….and it doesn’t always pay off….but would you change who you are?  Webb has developed racecraft out of necessity.  It won him a championship against a faster Eli….but who has ended up with a better career?  I like Copp now…i didn’t always.  It bugged me the way he would latch on to Eli in practice to get in his head.  He would even follow Eli in to the pits to mess with him.  I actually have come to appreciate his head games and racecraft…but my money is still on Chase.  He’s still learning his racecraft…much like Eli had to.   I think a lot of people here will be eating crow.  I guess we will find out after 10 more races.

I'm a sexton fan but championship contenders don't continuously make mistakes like this. It's to point where I just expect him to make some bad judgement call or mental fumble everytime. Honda era chase was the "tuck the front", first year ktm chase was uncomfortable on that 2023 frame. Thought now with time on a new softer frame and suspension he agrees with more, thought he'd finally be consistent but that hasn't happen. He has spurts of speed still but then still ends up on his head.

To say he has spurts of speed is an odd description for the fastest rider on the gate

Yeah his speed is always there. The mistakes are the costly little spurts.

💯 It’s funny people would say they couldn’t get behind Dungey because he was too conservative and didn’t hang it out. He only won because others crashed out (which wasn’t true, he had plenty of fast lap times but that’s another thread) Then we have Chase who pushes it every week and all he gets is 💩 on.

Yea…his mistakes cost him both an SX and MX title to a more mature racer in Eli…..but his speed won him an SX and MX title too.  Speed comes at a cost sometimes…mistakes or injury.  Keep the speed and clean up the mistakes.  It’s funny how people, and broadcasters, hammer on Chase and not everybody else making mistakes and not going as fast.  He’s usually in serious contention for every championship. Pretty kick ass!

I don't want to compare Chase to James. James was the fastest rider we've ever seen, revolutionized modern technique, and could be the most talented rider ever. But I can draw a parallel between them in that you're waiting for the explosion to come when they're on it. When it happens, you're like yeah there it is. I saw guys in the race thread tagging their own posts predicting a Chase crash. We all expect it, you're not special 😂

If this wasn't a "learning lesson" then I don't know what is.  Don't forget "there's lots of racing left". Put it behind you and "move on"!

Chase is the embodiment of go big or go home. While he chooses to go big, most of y’all seemingly choose to go home.

I admire the fight and ambition.

Maybe I am wrong but it seems as if Coop must have been in his head for him to make that kind of mistake.

Because this is ViTard-ism.

Bitch when they don't get what they expect...bitch when they do.

Don't get me wrong he definitely has the most raw speed but that's not enough to win championships when he's fumbling almost every single race he's in. Literally JS7 checkers or wreckers mentality and that doesnt work. Can be fastest dude all u want but when u end up on ur head and lost points to your main championship rival 3 weeks in a row, that's how u lose a championship. I really hope he gets it together just seems weird he's been unraveling since Tampa.  Whatever block he's got going on he's gotta get figure it out.

You must have been watching a different race than I was.  Chase wanted to win with very little track left.  He had to get right on his back tire to have a chance.  He didn’t anticipate the squeeze between Coop turning down tight and getting trapped on the high side by the lapper….who was trying to stay out of the way.  The “mistake” was not settling in second but wanting to go for the win out of his competitive nature.  The competitive nature that makes Chase Chase….2 time Champ from that competitive nature….and 2 time runner up due to mistakes.  It had nothing to do with Coop being in his head at that point.

Not to pass the blame to someone else, but..,.

Surely the team should be letting him know that the position he was in was good enough to claim the event win??

This is a discussion for prior to the last gate drop.

If they’re not doing this, that’s just amateur.

Sexton is fast as fuck and just wants to win. You don't get reward without some risk, last night the risk bit Sexton in the ass. Lucky for us they get to do it all again in 6 days and hopefully more drama will unfold.

Brain dead.

“He just wants to win”
He could’ve won last night if he backed it down and took 2nd in that last Moto..🙄

“You don’t get reward without some risk”

It was on a plate for him last night, with little to no risks left to take. 🙄
