From that link, it specifically states:

The organized sporting activity benefit is not payable for injuries that are caused by or occur
as a result of a covered person’s participating in any sport or sporting
activity for wage, compensation, or profit, including officiating or
coaching; or racing any type vehicle in an organized event.

Just to be clear, a "Trophy" could be considered compensation. And therefore they could deny paying.

I sell Employee benefits for a living, and work for a broker representing all the carriers. I am very familiar with all of them.

Short term disability will pay you if your hurt racing. It will pay typically up to 66 2/3% of your wages, depending on the carrier. Aflac is closer to 50% of wages. The only stipulation would be if your taking disability insurance and your a professional doing it for profit. You would need to go to a specialty carrier to get coverage. Now if you have another profession also, and have group disability it would pay, covering your wages at your full time job.

Accident policies are great, almost every single one of them has a "test of speed" or "motorsports" racing clause. I've never seen anyone denied a claim if they were practicing at an open practice or pleasure riding. Aflac (individual) used to have this same clause. Someone told me that it covers racing now, but I will have to check. I doubt it does though.

I had a client though, got pretty broken up racing. Broke back, ribs, and leg. Was hospitalized for a while. Transported from the track to ER, then to another hospital. I told him, unfortunately his accident policy would probably not pay, because the ambulance report states where he was coming from. He filed the claim, and they paid it. Over $15,000. That was an Allstate accident policy.

Allstate and Aflac are probably the two best worksite carriers, followed by Guardian for paying hassel free claims though.

Colonial is one of the only carriers that will write a direct accident policy on someone, not through an employer.

Two things I would never be without. Short term disability and an Accident policy for my family.

It's not a super strong policy, but the AMA has an accident policy that is endorsed by them that covers racing also. Check their website out.

Believe what the guidelines show.
Frankly, I don't give a shit what you do. Many people above say moto isn't covered as well. Maybe they read the guidelines provided?

You can see their guidelines on their site. Good luck getting paid.
OK be a dick for no reason.

As of january 2019 when i met with aflac it IS covered. That was the entire point of me buying it and i made it clear to them before and during the time we met and explained very clearly of scenerios of iniury on a bike.

Ill go ahead and contact my rep and say some peoppe are saying its not covered and verify for sure in writing for you all.

Insurance companies will always screw you over if they can. No question about that.

FWIW, a very inexpensive way to get some medical insurance is through Progressive. Their standard bike insurance policy which covers theft also has a "Medical Payment" rider. It can cover anywhere from $1000 to $25,000. I have a policy with $5000 of medical added and the plan is $160 per year, Very cheap considering that includes theft.

According to the rep I asked, if you're injured during a race, you're covered.

A few months ago someone stole my 2018 KTM 250sx and Progressive did write me a check. Totally worth having.

Brian I can tell you with 110% certantity, Progressive won’t cover you with any type of “med pay” if you are involved in an accident at a closed course event. So if there’s any record of you being transported from the track, mention that you were racing, or at any type of organized practice or track day, they will not cover you. The med pay is really meant for on road pleasure motorcycling. Whoever told you that is sadly mistaken. Progressive has great comprehensive coverage for fire/theft, but having a med pay endorsement for off road motorcycle is pissing money away. Some states now have statutes that require every policy to carry property damage and bodily injury, which many companies try to roll med pay or collision in to up the premium.

Some day you will goto the doctor and he will tell you that you need a new heart.. they will check your blood and find a cheese burger in your system.. the INS will then deny you coverage..

I snapped my lower leg and crushed my ankle at Lake Geneva Raceway years ago. Aflac paid with no questions asked. Same with my collar bone, my shoulder and my arm over the years. They knew how I was injured, never blinked an eye. Still have AFLAC and the know I ride.

You're trying to be reasonable with a pathological liar named Paul G. He's had probably close to (maybe more) 100 usernames on here. Each time he gets booted he just can't stay away. He's truly sick. And a liar who cost Jesse Williams something like $10K when he fucked up a mortgage for him. There's a reason that the company he worked for got prosecuted for being a bunch of crooks......

Aflac accident policy info available online is pretty clear. Hazardous activities are covered by the accident insurance policy, however any accidental death benefit that would be triggered by participation in a hazardous activity would be subject to a reduced payout.

I’m a licensed insurance broker in Canada and I can tell you that there is no solution out there for disability coverage for MX racing. They simply will not take on the risk...not even with a rating.

If you work for an employer and they have a group plan get on their long term disability benefits if they offer it.

Sun Life has a long term care options that will cover you in the worst case situation, but not for any short term disability.

Most of you guys on here are from the USA so I know there are different rules and products...but I would be extremely surprised to see a solution unless you were a professional racer paying thousands and thousands of dollars a year.

He's incorrect.

That clause states that the additional 25% payout for being injured in an organized sporting event won't be paid under those conditions. The basic policy benefit still pays.

He's an idiot.

When I asked Progressive, they transferred my call to a specialist who told me racing was not mentioned in the exclusions. The rep said that there are exclusions pertaining to who is driving and a few other things. No exclusions pertaining to racing or practicing.

The policy is listed as "Motorcycle/Off Road Vehicle Policy". The "Medical Payments" rider is listed separately from "Bodily Injury Liability".

How could I get a definitive answer from Progressive?

Even if they cover it, its a max payout of $25,000. A broken leg or collarbone that requires surgery and hospital stay can go over $100,000 real quick. 1 night in the hospital i was at last fall was $26,000. I was there for 3 nights waiting to have surgery.

I was looking at additional insurance for myself, as aflac doesnt pay out like 80/20.

I went on zander insurance and there is short term policies you can get for 6/12 months for $110-150 a month. One of them i saw had a $2500 deductible but pays 100-0 afterwards. Looks more appealing than aflac. And racing isnt on the exclusion unless its for money.

Like to help someone not make the same mistake I did. I was offered supplemental insurance at work (Aflac). I did some reading up on it and it had mostly negative reviews.

The negative reviews were from people making small claims with it. Like a Dr visit for the flu etc. If you are seriously injured it is a HUGE benefit. It's not going to help much with minor injuries, etc.

I stupidly opted not to get it because of reviews. About a year later I'm diagnosed with neck and throat cancer. Guess what I got, 60% of my pay from short term and that's it. My boss's wife had cancer and they get a check for about $25K from Aflac.

Your chances of getting cancer at some point in your life are pretty good. If I can help one person with this I'd feel good. If it's offered at your work get it!!!!

FYI, I'm now cancer free and fine.

Not a racing injury, but my private disability policy was a blessing to our family and still pays. It's at least as important as life insurance and more so if you don't have family that would look to life insurance benefits.

That's just real world testimony. If you are embracing hazards its a cost of living, not an exceptional purchase

On the is it covered or not, have that conversation with a rep or broker before you buy. Not speaking to Aflac, but a standard policy typically will exclude exceptional risks, which then are priced separately for coverage if you buy the rider for that risk. It's no different from homeowners (earthquake, flood) or business insurance where the standard policy excludes risks that may be covered for riders. Some insurers will not offer riders for some risks, but usually a good broker can match you with a policy.

It makes sense in the pricing of policies because people not embracing risks aren't paying for them, and those who do are. You want cheese on your burger you pay more.

Get it clear when you buy; not understanding the policy is where people's expectations get tripped up.

When it comes to ANY type of insurance, the adjuster (the one who decides if they pay or not and how much) can either be your best friend, or your worst enemy.

Just ask anyone who's ever had a claim for anything. Insurance does NOT like to pay out if they can find a reason not to.

My work sent me a occ insurance plan & docs.  She marked the 133.00 plan the other is 172.00 per week. Seems high what do u think ?  I  already hv my own insurance plan . This is a 53 ft flat bed with curtain side . A lot of work aprox 7 hrs of hyper moving & physical everything you got feet to upper body. The risk of injury is Very high. And other trls strp deck - easier, &rgn lowboy for hvy equipment easier yet. Last time I did this work was Feb of 1998 at the pipeline co. And that was in winter cold.  I trained myself now just like in 85-98 . It’s the only job that pays anything now & it’s really not very good. My 1st ld was Chicago to Iowa at night  run   I got to receiver @ 1am slept 4 hrs & unlded. It only paid 1,100 with tracking of course I had it on . And 1,000 for not tracking. There of course playing with thd tracking turning it off . I call & text to say plz stop turning thd tracking on my current ld off. In other words I busted them for trying to take a 100 bucks from me. IMO thd ld should’ve paid much more but there was 3,000 flatbeds sitting in Chicago   Loads avail withon 200 mi radius  and no lds. So I guess I was lucky to hv work . I just hate working for cheap  . It was 320 mi lded not counting n. Side go south side Chicago. I do that for free along with 7 hrs of extreme physical labor . I,m paid 30% of the ld , empty miles r not paid . The money is tight if I ever want to ride again I Really hv to watch how money earned is spent.  Ps my side  gig meds mobile erotic dancing spectacular super show. Has not been so spectacular as of late.haha Clients hv no spare denaros. I even cut back on practicing. lol My contract was signed in Chicago, so the comp amount is much higher than my home state. And it’s tax deductible when I file taxes. But it’s money out now.  So what do you think 133.00 a little high for every week . I usually paid 35-45 per week but the plans where all fake but one. And they covered some medical but I never got a comp check. They said pre existing of course. I had Aflac yrs ago thry don’t pay either for a major elbow surgery or injury.

AFLAC kept loosing my claim paperwork after I was diagnosed with cancer and never accepted the claim for any of the cancer diagnosis or subsequent cancer related surgeries in the contract. The ammount they would have paid was so small compared to the attorney fees it was not worth taking to court. I’m actually going to start a new thread about this.

I have had several times where AFLAC paid me for accidents while both racing a sanctioned D16 event and as well as just practicing at private tracks. Never had one problem or even a question about it. They just sent me the checks. .

I broke my scapula a couple years ago and Aflac gave me almost $2000, they pay certain amounts for what you had done which for me was ER, Xrays, CT scan and follow up visits were all factored into the final payment.

Not bad considering it was a fairly minor injury and I already have good normal insurance.

I do believe AFLAC has some payout stipulations however...like say you wad it up riding and you break your arm and leg requiring surgery on both. AFLAC will pay for whichever body part pays the most, but not for both a broken arm and leg surgeries payout. It's one or the other only. I am pretty sure it how it works.
