We all know the talks about how mentally strong and resilient Cooper Webb is. One thing everyone seems to have not brought up is the fatal mistakes Webb makes every year that he has not won the championship.
The years he won, he was clearly the best, winning half the races. But in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024, he had mental lapses in each of those years that caused him to be out of championship contention. He doesn't win like Dungey, just outlasting everyone and being more consistent. He wins in a dominant fashion.
So, with the industry so high on Webb right now, does he elevate himself to championship domination? Or do we expect another major mistake late in the season?
I think he'll just keep grinding away the way he has already and it's gonna result in the Championship for him.
Sexton has more outright speed but I don't think he can handle the pressure of going toe to toe for a Championship with Webb, he'll front end wash himself right out of it by the end.
I think it will be pretty damn close between the two of them, slight edge to Sexton because he's just stiffer competition than Webb dealt with in 2019 or 2021
He finished 2nd in the points last year. I wouldn't say that is out of the championship
In 23, he was right in it with Tomac until he had the head injury and he still finished 3rd in points....
I think the bigger question is “will Sexton continue to shoot himself in the foot”. It’s entirely in his control.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, in 2024 he broke his thumb which really ended his hopes. In 2023 he was pushing too hard in a heat race to beat Tomac and ended his season early.
Hard to overlook these fatal errors
Clearly the best, no, not just yet. The leader, certainly. But its early days fellas, early days.
Guess I have a hard time calling them "fatal errors" and "mental lapses".
It's racing....noone is perfect.
It's a miracle any of these guys survive a season of this sport.
If you're aiming for a championship and you crash yourself out, that's a fatal error, mental lapse, choke, whatever you want to call it.
If Sexton minimizes mistakes it’s his but Webb is so consistent that he could easily take it too. Would like to see Kenny get another round win though.
One of leaders*
2023 was weird because Chase made 58 times more mental lapses than Tomac or Webb, but still took the title, honestly, because of luck. What happened to Webb easily could’ve happened to Sexton that year, but luckily it didn’t
I’d say it’s a safe bet because Coop makes less mental mistakes than any other rider out there. Yes he’s made a couple that were detrimental to a championship, but those have seriously been his ONLY mistakes. Other than that he seems to be flawless, and this year it seems he has some extra spice.
If Sexton doesnt Sexton then Webb doesn't Webb
Whoever wins the most recent race is who the industry is high on. If chase wins this weekend all the talk will be on him and no mention of his mistakes from the previous weekend. If ken wins this weekend all the talk will be on him and how he's only down x amount of points. If Webb wins 2 in a row then they will talk like the championship is over.
Webb is the most mistake free and consistent guy on the track right now. So yeah, he’s the best at that.
But the title is Chase’s to lose. Which he very well might do.
True.
How much talk of Mookie going on a run have you heard this week compared to right after Tampa?
Mookie was talked about all week after tampa on every podcast.
Sexton is the best, but not the most consistent. Webb is the most consistent, but not the best.
Pit Row
This is actually perfect
Anybody else notice Webb looks to be down 15-20 lbs since the season began? His intensity looks up too, I think he is just rolling up his sleeves.
Pretty high standard you've set there bro....
Because someone goes down, it's always on them, eh? Or even a simple tip over and gets nailed in the head by another rider...that's on them too.
Tomacs fib break.... Choke.
Jetts blown ACL.... Choke
Good grief. ..
What mental lapses are you refering to? In 2020 he had that crash off the dragons back, without that crash that championship would've been a close one. Also he was really sick for like the first month of the series, probably covid, which prevented him from starting the season out strong. And in 2023 he had a small crash losing the front end and got clipped by a few riders. The only real mental lapse I can think of was 2022 when he tried to triple in to that rhythm section because he got confused and crashed with Sexton. But that year he wasn't even in the championship because of the bike.
Chase still has a speed advantage on Cooper so I think it'll be close till the end.
I said Webb was clearly the best the years he won the championship, and in years he didn't win he had fatal errors that caused him not to win. Does he have a dominant 2025 or does he make mistakes that ultimately lose him the championship is what we are discussing. And you brought up perfect examples.
Yes

Surely after last weekend's shit show, Chase has to know that his 90% is good enough to get it done. No doubt the pair of them "should" podium out the rest of the series, however when it comes to race wins/winning speed, Chase gets the upper hand, if, like said above, Chase doesn't Chase.
That was kinda the point . You said, "Whoever wins the most recent race is who the industry is high on."
Mookie was the hot commodity right after Tampa and now after a Webb win in Detroit... crickets on Mookie.
No one is clearly the best. Even with Jett and Eli injured. There’s no clear best. Its still up for grabs. Thankfully.
Would suck if we knew exactly who would win it 5 races into the season.
One thing for sure, whenever the topic of Webb comes up, people loose objectivity and their minds.
