Kawasaki's only 1979 KDX model was the KDX400: a twin shock, 260lb, $1800 bike.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 1st KDX175 was an 1980 model.  I traded in my '79 XR500 pig for a new one.

Here I am in 1980 at the Michigan Jackpine Enduro on the 175.  It was a great little bike.

I still have the VIN and receipt....so no cheating.

That bike is not going anywhere! LOL

I got to display it at the Legends and Heroes display at Indy last year and it is now on display in my man cave.

Its not necessary that kawi bring anything back because 2 stroke never left. Yamaha and ktm make sure that 2 stroke didnt disappear all this years😜

just kidding...

Amazing news , hope to see 125/250s new style/frame/susp with keihin carb or maybe some EFI for enduro models

Nice target fixation broski...

The video I shared of the gentleman with the KX 250 proves a 2-stroke 250 can be hand-started.

Am I the only one thinking starting a bike by hand isn’t a brag?  Weird way to flex.

I don’t care if it e start or kick though my guess is they will go with electric to be on par with current generations. Carb or efi will be interesting as there seems to be a bigger split in the community on what is better.

In the UTV world, Kawi is very openly shooting images in Glamis for their new car, rumored to have the H2 in it.

This could be a big year for Kawi and I'm excited to see this and the new smokers.

That's pretty wild! I've spent some time on the H2. That motor is something else.

The late 70s through late 80's were a special time in motocross. So many changes in such a short amount of time. Will we see new innovations on the brand new Kawasaki two stroke? Time will tell.

you can even go back to 1973 and introduction of Honda CR125 Elsinore turned everything upside down. The incredible lightspeed innovation and time to market of big 4 Japanese brands leapfrogged all the Euro bikes most of us had in that era. Add in all the pioneering US riders we had and it was a really great time for MX racing and riding. 👍

Yes! 1973 through 1988 saw massive changes. We started with air cooling, drum brakes, 4” of twin shock travel, and ended up with bikes that are very similar in most ways to what we ride today, the only big exception is the legislation driven change to 4 strokes in the 2000s.

Into the 90s the biggest changes were honestly ergonomics. Tank/seat got flatter and flatter as the years went on. Suspension also improved quite a bit, but even the big four had mostly figured out cartridge style forks by the late 80s, which are still not horrible today with correct spring rate and oil.

It was quite exciting. I bought the 1980 Kx125 when it came out. I thought it was a pretty good bike but broke the frame at the front swing arm bolt.
