...who do you think they name? Who are the 5 most well known riders to the public, and in what order?
If you asked 100 people on the street to name 5 motocross/supercross riders...
Less than 10 people would be able to name 1 current rider.
Around here you would get a big fat zero.
Wait you’re telling me the “casual viewer” does exist out on the street? I mean the way the broad cast caters to the casual viewer you would think you would run into one on the street….
It doesn't have to be current. I think a lot of people know the names of Pastrana, McGrath, and maybe Carmichael at least.

Most people would be lucky to name one in a survey like this. I’d guess if they were asking adults McGrath would probably be the name said the most by a strong margin. I feel like he’s the Tony Hawk of dirt bikes, if that makes sense.
If I tell people at work (an accounting firm) that I ride motocross I often get a blank stare so I say “I ride a dirt bike” and then they have a general idea what I’m talking about. So yeah, they couldn’t name a rider.
Very few could. A few times when someone finds out I race MX they ask if I jump off ramps? I tell them no I am not Travis Pastrana. Travis seems to be the only rider that non moto people might know?

None of my riding buddies could name any current rider. Perhaps because they put on 250 hours or so a year riding , they understand the pros riding doesn't apply to what they do very much. Pro racing is just so different. Pro racing really doesn't interest them. I still dig it though, all of it, WSBK, MotoGP, MXGP, AFT, AMA SX/MX. Most people, even motorcyclists, it holds no interests though.
