Big feet: longer shifter or move pegs

Im 5'11 and wear a size 12 boots and ride an rmz.

I noticed vs other bikes suzuki seems to be on the shorter side measuring peg to shifter, my brothers kx is 10mm longer.

Would it be more effective to move the pegs or a longer shifter?

I'm looking to buy some raptor pegs either way so not worried about cost

Move the pegs .  I hv the same problem stock shifters on cr125 r the best do i,m not changing that.  My pegs r not as far back as they where supposed to be.  But there much lower .  They don’t make the low boy model 4 my bike anymore .  I ,m making these work .  I think the bike handles even better having my weight 12-15 mm lower or whatever it is.  How much r raptor pegs ? Are they the titanium pegs ?

Size 14 here.  The very first purchase I make every time I buy a new bike is a +20mm Hammerhead shifter.  Solves the problem for less than $100.

If you’re tall as well, next time you’re bike shopping, look at a KX.  The ability to move the pegs down 10mm to the lower holes is a game changer for me.

I know a lot about modifying a bike to fit a rider too tall to be racing MX, but if you want advice on a career in trucking, Profeshnal125 is your guy.

What’s your opinion on tall seats? I’m 6’3 and looking at new bikes for next year.

Your height isn't important, leg length is...

You need lowered footpegs and raised seat if you have long legs!

I’m 6’3” myself.  If you aren’t racing and don’t care how fast you are, it would certainly be comfortable.  I’m still interested in winning races.  The problem is, as a tall rider, your center of gravity is already too high, making quick direction changes more challenging.  Look at bike design over the past decade.  Lots of changes have been made to bring mass closer to the center of the bike for better handling.  It makes a lot more sense to lower your pegs than to raise your ass if you’re already tall to begin with.  Just don’t skip legs day at the gym.

I was 6,3 in 2 - 2 1/2 yrs the Chicago 1099 Russian mob  beater trucks made me 6 1/4 inch.  It sucks being that much shorter . After 2 1/2 yrs I,m still trying to get used to it.

This, couldn’t agree more.

I’m 6’2 with long legs and size 11 boot.  KX is the ticket with adjustable pegs for a tall guy or big feet.    Drop the pegs and a 10 mm longer hammerhead shifter tip .  I couldn’t get a Hammerhead lever, not in stock.  So I fitted a hammerhead tip to a Tusk lever.  Works good enough for this old guy.  KX is a dang good ride.  Never owned one till lately.   I really like my KX450.  Non aggressive map, traction control set all the way.  I ride around in second and third like I got good sense lol.

You guys need to learn to ride on your ball of your foot. I have size 14-15 depending on boots and have never had a shifting problem on any bike

Once you try it, I promise you’ll like it.   No disadvantage, and it keeps me from accidentally hitting the shift lever.

I bought a 2025 CRF450RWE. I'm  5'10" and have size 11 feet. Stock shifter is way too short. I purchased a +20mm Hammerhead. Works perfectly now.

Other than Kawasaki what other bikes suite taller riders? I’ve been looking at the 23 yz250f or 18+ rmz450 depending on if I want a 250 or 450.

I’m bad about not riding on the balls of my feet.  When I pull on the on the track I’m on the balls of my feet.  After a few turns all bets are off.  I catch myself with my feet far too forward and move back.

For tall guys, nothing is even close.  I’ve ridden and/or owned them all.  At 6’3”, nothing else is in the conversation comfort and confidence-wise.  The adjustability of the chassis is what makes it so good.

This forum is slipping.  I expected to open up this thread and see some kind of joke about big feet and the ladies....

I'm a bit taller (6'9") and a bit bigger feet (16).  But in my experiences I disliked the lowered pegs .  I tried some lower pegs one time at Southwick and my feet got grabbed more often than a stripper at a Bachler party.  I took them off and have never tried them again. Maybe I should have given them another try at some other tracks before I ditched them. But I never had so much trouble with my feet getting caught on ruts , and bumps.

For me a longer shifter helped but nothing ever has made it feel  as comfortable to use as I remember when I was riding before my growth spurt.

A taller seat for me was the best thing I did to my bike.  I rode a lot of sand and tracks that I had sit through a corner and stand up on jump faces, or entering a rough whooped out section. And a taller seat helps me so much. Made it so much easier to go from siting to standing and for me being so tall, helps me paddle less in corners too. And allows me to sit in corners that I otherwise might end up standing  through and go slower to setup better for the next obstacle out of the turn.  For me my corners smoothed out and I was able to jump some stuff out of corners that I couldn't do as consistently or comfortable with a stock height seat.

I am 6'9"  with a size 16 boot and 36 inch inseam. So my experiences may not be as helpful as somebody closer to Your size. At my best I was a top 5 B rider in NESC on a full gate after they had qualifiers. A million years ago when people still raced.

+1 on the Hammerhead shifter recommendation.    Some of the older YZ's had shorter shifters and brake pedal distances, so i would put the longer hammerhead shifter and put an aftermarket brake pedal tip further away on the brake pedal too.

I wear 13's and have tried several things.  Best for me is the peg's lower and further back...I think 7mm each.

I did try fastway pegs years ago when i had an rm125. I remember my knees had a much easier time gripping the seat and frame, BUT the day i tested themm, the track had deep ruts  after a rain and I remember my feet catching a lot to where if i didnt have them perfect they were pulled off a lot so i switched them to the standard position.

Moving the pegs back will change the balance of the bike. Extending the shift and brake levers will not change anything as far as balance goes.

2/8/2025 3:38pm

Boots with smaller outside profiles. Sidi x air and instincts are good.

2/8/2025 3:40pm

6’4 2 SRs

Tried them back to back one set pegs high one set low.

Did not like the low at all felt weird(to me)

Both are now up high with one having Ti mounts  with  no lower option on them.

I also run a pretty flat and low sweep ktm bend

Always added the Hammerhead shifter. I have tried taller seats, fastway pegs and raised bar mounts and all helped on the smaller chassis Honda era. Some of those stock shifters seemed like I couldn't even get my big foot under on the stand so the shifter was a must.
