McAdoo torn ACL?

2/7/2025 8:32am

No other professionell sport is as stupid as MX / SX, don’t get this wrong, it’s the greatest sport in the world but when it comes to injuries….

In every other sports team bosses, trainers and so on are taking care about their athletes and not sending them out with a fresh torn ACL.
And don’t even start with stupid comments how tough and“real man“ they are.
It he is in championship reach and its two races to go, go for it. To start a championship like this is just plain stupip notbad ass or anything else.

Plenty of examples of guys that raced a lot of their career with torn ACLs.

You may have heard of Jeremy McGrath?

Feel like there will always be a stigma in bike racing when it comes to the appropriate handling of injuries. To this day too many people don't take things like concussions seriously. Instead of making the priority the recovery and return to good health, these guys are lauded for how 'gnarly' they are for toughing out things no human being should be doing if they want to sustain long term good health - let alone get back to full speed on the bike

Just hope his knee is stable enough to safely race his motorcycle and not endanger himself or other riders cause of his desire to continue. I commend his heart but it would be a shame to see him have a devastating incident due to not taking proper precautions.

I don't think that racing a motorcycle requires the same kind of knee stability that running sports require.  I'm also not sure there is any risk of causing greater damage by racing with a torn ACL.  If the pain isn't too great, and a rider can still control the bike, why not keep racing?

...and RC too.

Won a championship with a torn ACL.  Then took 2004 SX season off to fix it.  Enter Chad Reed for the 2004 SX championship.

I grew up in a small town not far from Sioux City.  Not sure if you feel entitled to something because you’re from the town closer to the dude? Haha congratulations though! 😉

We can both be fans? Haha and if you’re referring to my profile location…yours says Texas

Yeah we certainly can both be fans. I'm not living at my profile location currently anyway. Now working in Chillicothe, MO and living outside of a place nobodies probably ever heard of. Breckenridge. Some weird history here about an old couple that owned a cattle ranch, hired vagrants from the city to buy cattle for them, but the vagrants disappeared. That was a long time ago, but I'm in the sticks, but its a nice area

Yes and Jeremy was racing for a championship in the premier class. Which class is Macadoo riding? How many Championship did he win without an injury? I‘m not sure if Macadoo is making enough money to put his health for the after race life on the line. He probably needs to work some job later, health is important!
That said, good luck to Macadoo, I really hope this all works out for him.

Didn’t he get an injury from a bike problem a few years ago? And this time ”it was out of his control” again? Like a snapped chain in the whoops

I was going to post that. I believe he just had one in the past 5 years.

Sure, if the knee is stable enough ,you can strengthen around it and race for years but it will still be a bit unstable and move around, thus wearing out the joint and making a knee replacement at some point later in life a real probability.

That's the way I understand it. Could be wrong.

I believe the quote was...wait for it..." A situation out of my hands".

So yes, his bike broke.

With PC:

2020 - collapsed lung from practice crash at second round of SX

2021 - knee injury first round of MX

2022 - shoulder injury during press day at sixth round of SX

2023 - shoulder injury at sixth round of SX

2024 - broken scapula at fifth round of SX

2025 - likely torn ACL

The PC “curse” isn’t a curse, it’s the definition of insanity. Maybe keeping injury-prone riders on the roster for half a decade or longer at a time isn’t a great strategy.

We can work with speed!!! 😂 someone needs to sit Mitch down with your stats.

That's why I don't understand the rush for Hymas to come back. He's recovering from an ACL and he just had arm pump surgery, which I just heard about. I see him being one of the guys who a serious threat this summer to Deegan. Shoot, he's THE guy. He's going up against heavy hitters on the East and it's only his 2nd sx season. Why rush and potentially ruin a real shot at an mx title this summer?

Yeah, DB proposed he just ride west in the Matthes Blair show and it actually made a lot of sense. Will probably never happen haha

I can see why he wants to push through he’s probably in a contract year if he takes the year off he probably ends up on a second tier team best case scenario next year he has more to loose not giving it a shot.

Riding without an ACL isn’t as crazy as some make it seam, a very freshly torn one is much more difficult but possible. Hymas rode all last year with a torn one.

And Mathes just laughed him off and dismissed him. Just get him out there and throw him in the wood chipper. I heard multiple journo's of the opinion he wasn't ready.  Whether it's to race the rest of the West or sit out as much as the East as he needs, why not? Yes, he's paid to race. If he wrecks his knee again, which did happen last year, does he get a pass?

I’m sure Mcadoo doesn’t get paid much if he doesn’t race this year. PC has always been well known for being a performance based pay plan. He probably has to do x amount of races or needs to finish a certain position. I’m sure it’s tough being his age with no to little income. Could be a factor in him deciding to race?

Also I’m sure Mitch will sign him again. Seems that’s his move so what makes anyone think would he change now?
