Soo I got offered a YZ 250f 2019 with 2 hours on it for 6k.
It has been sitting for 5 months because the kid doesn't ride anymore.
I'm supposed to give him the money next week but the further I investigate into this bike the worst it gets.
Lots of people with sub frame anchors breaking, LOTS of people complaining of fouled spark plugs with low hours on the bike, LOTS of people with throttle body issues and unburnt fuel sitiing on the top of the piston.
It worries me how much negative stuff is out there for this bike already and its only been one year.
What do you guys think?
Go for it or wait for the next good deal on another brand

And half the internet has no idea what they are talking about - I don't mean that negatively but I see all sorts of things posted that aren't correct.
The latest generation yamaha has NOT been as good as the older 5 valve - but there are LOTS of people who own them that have no problems...
You'd have to ask yourself what else will you get - and will it be any better? If it's a kx, crf I'd say no
KTM mostly good now - but certainly people break those too
RMZ ironically seems rock solid. Also considered slow.
Is a new bike under 10 hours supposed to have issues? I don't see it on the other brands which are why this makes me raise my eyebrow and think twice about this bike
The problem and update from what I have read is the map being too rich, and throttle body breaking apart.
I have not looked into it but a throttle body sounds expensive.
Ohh and another one that I forgot to mention was the air filter design that lets sand get past the foam.

Only thing that failed was a spoke nipple that stripped out.
Full Disclosure, I have a horrible taste in my mouth about Yamahas, and I wish I didn't and this bike is changing a 20 year opinion.
Yamaha, fix your air-filter design and you will have the perfect machine.
Air filter every ride and oil every 6 or so hours.
Zero issues, original clutch still mic’s fine.
Changed the battery only because others have had issues, ours was and is still fine.
Piston and cam chain at 25 hours.

I do wish the air filter change process was less sketchy, but once you’re used to it, it’s somewhat easy to ensure no dirt gets down there. I always wipe down the dirty filter before I remove it to get any loose dirt off, especially towards the top of it. Take it off carefully by just pulling it towards the rear of the bike. Put the twin air wash cover on and wash the whole area. Then check the box before I put a new filter on.

Or a RMZ250
No issues, awesome bikes. We race weekly.
The YZF's, 2015 and up are excellent.
I've owned a 2015, a 2016, and now 2019.
Check it out good, if its solid and you want it by it.
Besides motorcycles, I also tournament bass fish. Years ago word on the street was 300 HP Yamaha HPDI's outboards were a piece of shit don't by one. I bought one, it was flawless. Every mechanic I spoke with told me it was one of the most reliable 2 stroke outboards ever built.
I'd buy a 2019 YZf in a heart beat. I may sell my 2014 and buy one just for electric start.
My boy picked up the same bike with 100 hours on it. Went through top end at 125 hours. Did foul one plug only because battery was weak and didn't spin fast enough to fire up. Previous owner said same thing happened to him a few years ago otherwise no problems since bike was new.
I’ve had a ‘15,17,20,21 and currently a 23 YZ250FX- essentially the same motor as the YZ. Not one single mechanical issue on any of them. I’ve heard horror stories about cam chains but never had an issue. Sold them all close to the 150 hour mark- fresh top end and cam chain at 100 hrs. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of any year.
