Soo I got offered a YZ 250f 2019 with 2 hours on it for 6k.
It has been sitting for 5 months because the kid doesn't ride anymore.
I'm supposed to give him the money next week but the further I investigate into this bike the worst it gets.
Lots of people with sub frame anchors breaking, LOTS of people complaining of fouled spark plugs with low hours on the bike, LOTS of people with throttle body issues and unburnt fuel sitiing on the top of the piston.

It worries me how much negative stuff is out there for this bike already and its only been one year.
What do you guys think?
Go for it or wait for the next good deal on another brand

every bike has "issues"

And half the internet has no idea what they are talking about - I don't mean that negatively but I see all sorts of things posted that aren't correct.

The latest generation yamaha has NOT been as good as the older 5 valve - but there are LOTS of people who own them that have no problems...

You'd have to ask yourself what else will you get - and will it be any better? If it's a kx, crf I'd say no
KTM mostly good now - but certainly people break those too
RMZ ironically seems rock solid. Also considered slow.

Issue 1 isn't so bad for a bargain, just beef it up a bit. Issue 2 and 3 could be the same thing, maybe a leaky injector? Should be able to sort that out unless it's there's only one very specific injector that fits and the mfr isn't revising it for some reason. I'd want to know more specifics than "my bike fouled a plug" because that's the same problem we've heard from every goon everywhere back in the 2t days.

Then find another bike to buy. Truth is the people who have bikes they like and that work, they dont bitch. Only the people who have issues will speak up. Youre hearing the 2% peoppe bitch without looking at the other 98% that are happy. Relax dude.

Well, my initial thought was a KTM but that changed with this offer.
Is a new bike under 10 hours supposed to have issues? I don't see it on the other brands which are why this makes me raise my eyebrow and think twice about this bike

The problem and update from what I have read is the map being too rich, and throttle body breaking apart.
I have not looked into it but a throttle body sounds expensive.

Ohh and another one that I forgot to mention was the air filter design that lets sand get past the foam.

My brother has one and so far not a single issue. Its got a lot of hours on it and TBH, somewhat crappy upkeep.

Only thing that failed was a spoke nipple that stripped out.
Full Disclosure, I have a horrible taste in my mouth about Yamahas, and I wish I didn't and this bike is changing a 20 year opinion.

The funny thing is there is always someone going to have issues with a bike, you never hear the positives.. there are plenty of 2019 yz250fs out there with zero problems. It’s the nature of the beast for off-road products they are beaten on and people expect there to be zero errors on any bike.. I know plenty of people with the new gen yzf’a and they have had zero problems. Me included I have a 18’ yz450 which is same frame as the 250 almost with 87 hours and no failures.

I have just under 10 hrs so far on my 19 yz250f with zero issues. I instantly went with the Twin Air Powerflow to avoid any airbox issues (the stock filter sucks). I have ridden Hondas my whole life, but am completely happy so far with this Yamaha.

Great job! That's exactly what I did for a friend's 19 450 (Christmas present). So much better than stock. My friend is a very fast B rider and beats the heck out of his YZF. Zero issues. Not one and he's been on it for almost six months. He hasn't even sent his suspension out as it's that good out of the box.

Yamaha, fix your air-filter design and you will have the perfect machine.

My buds 19 yz250 has been trouble free for 40+ hours. All he did was install a twin air filter. Bike is solid.

Nearly 40 hours on mine and I’ve had 0 issues that weren’t self inflicted (broken spoke, broken chain guide tab, etc). Race mine off road and it chugs, get muddy, gets sand in the air box, and more, and it hasn’t skipped a beat. Valves haven’t moved yet either.

My 19 is running great so far (15 hours). Get the power flow twin air kit. The stock exhaust does get blown out fast, but that’s a good excuse to get the rad looking FMF slip on.

I do wish the air filter change process was less sketchy, but once you’re used to it, it’s somewhat easy to ensure no dirt gets down there. I always wipe down the dirty filter before I remove it to get any loose dirt off, especially towards the top of it. Take it off carefully by just pulling it towards the rear of the bike. Put the twin air wash cover on and wash the whole area. Then check the box before I put a new filter on.

I only have about 2 hours on mine but when I tried to start it yesterday it wouldn't fire. I have the new WPS battery but that wasn't the problem. I ended up pulling the fuses and blowing air through the connectors. Finally it fired but thought it strange. I had washed it the day before but the previous time it was cleaned this did not happen so I'm hoping it was an isolated instance. Still strange though.

If You are Looking for the Most Reliable, from everything i have heard and read that should be A 2016-2018 YZ250F
Or a RMZ250

Same here. My buddy and I both have one, 2019's
No issues, awesome bikes. We race weekly.
The YZF's, 2015 and up are excellent.
I've owned a 2015, a 2016, and now 2019.

First off, I don't believe anything I hear and only half of what I see, learned that from my really cool 6th grade teacher Mr. Lynch.

Check it out good, if its solid and you want it by it.

Besides motorcycles, I also tournament bass fish. Years ago word on the street was 300 HP Yamaha HPDI's outboards were a piece of shit don't by one. I bought one, it was flawless. Every mechanic I spoke with told me it was one of the most reliable 2 stroke outboards ever built.

I'd buy a 2019 YZf in a heart beat. I may sell my 2014 and buy one just for electric start.

My boy picked up the same bike with 100 hours on it. Went through top end at 125 hours. Did foul one plug only because battery was weak and didn't spin fast enough to fire up. Previous owner said same thing happened to him a few years ago otherwise no problems since bike was new.

I’ve had a ‘15,17,20,21 and currently a 23 YZ250FX- essentially the same motor as the YZ. Not one single mechanical issue on any of them. I’ve heard horror stories about cam chains but never had an issue. Sold them all close to the 150 hour mark- fresh top end and cam chain at 100 hrs. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of any year.
