Every dealer does this with all of the bike brands. They post some bullshit price to get you in the door then tack on $2k in setup, freight, dealer prep, etc bullshit.

Last bike I bought in 2022 the dealer literally told me the "minimum" price he had to sell the bike for after I negotiated him down on price and he tried to tack on $900 of shit. He said they are not "allowed" to sell below a certain amount, so they'll lower the "sale price" to whatever and just subsidize the difference elsewhere in fees or what have you. Its a complete fucking scam - dealers should just post the OTD price.

Ya they can definitely sell below a certain amount, they just can’t advertise it below a certain amount due to MAP  pricing policies.

Unless it's a previous year model, then they can advertise it for whatever price they want. MAP usually only applies to current model year machines.

It seems that some of us are still surprised to find that the dirtbike market is dead and the economy is limping along, wounded....

Don't worry, "recent events" point to economic rebound....

The market isn't dead and the economy is not horrible.  They just had bad timing that the austrian dealers all got super loaded up with inventory in the last year and its taking a while to flush it all through the market.  Its a great time to buy a new bike.

Absolutely correct. The economy here isn't good and it's horrible throughout the rest of the world. Everyone is hurting.

In June the price will be 2,995 pennies on a dollar. You can buy a 180k truck rt now for 40k. To make negative 5k a week.

Simple supply and demand 101

When New units supply was low dealers could do whatever they wanted and because there was a line of people wanting to buy what they had in stock one of them would pay big $$$

Now that dealers have a large excess of 2024’s they are willing to make deals.

Imagine back then, it only took a field with some small dips and climbs to push a bikes limits. Now you need special built facilities to do so. Progress?

Shoot, back in the day. An afternoon of riding would beat you like todays race day. Maybe a Surron and a field around the corner ain't a bad proposition.

The price is listed,  plus PDI (pre delivery inspection, which is talking it out of the crate and putting the front wheel, handlebars on), plus freight.

Those two are usually 400 each.

Plus tax on all of it.

Mentioning PDI ….

I Saw a time lapse video the other day showing everything a 2025 CRF build consisted of. Disassembling the crate just to access the bike. Physically Picking up the bike with no handle bars or front wheel out of the lower crate and setting it on top a bike stand. Taking all the parts out of packaging and making sure it is all there to assemble. Disposing of the steel or wooden crate. Installation on the bike. Processing the PDI inspection and check list filling out the paperwork.

The entire build process is a LOT more labor intensive than people seem to think it is.

Not to mention if the crate is behind 9 other units that they have to move out of the way and put back or not even on site.  The clock doesn't start when the crate is just sitting in front of the tech.

And they're not allowed to sell the bike IN the crate for legal reasons. (or you're REALLY special)

Like gosh man I understand constructive criticism but it’s almost like a lot of these people want Triumph to fail for their entertainment rather than welcome a new manufacture that’s adding jobs and seats to the industry, so they moan and complain about everything possible. Not everyone but the portion that has that thought process seems to be very very vocal.

Don't get me started on WSX...

sales guy: i have hundreds of bikes on the floor there is no way i know a price off the top of my head.

Me: its the only dirt bike Triumph makes and you have 4 in stock.

sales guy: yeah so you get the best price when you come in and sit down with my sales manager and beat him up over it.

I wish I could remember when this changed, bought three bikes direct from the crate, but yes, no longer a thing.

For example, a dealer will advertise "2024 Triumph 250 for $6555"

Then you get to the dealer, they take that advertised price and add things like:

Doc fee: $600

Destination fee: $750

Setup fee: $500

Thanks for explaining that , why not just have the price with all of that added in ? Seems stupid 👍

If a dealer advertises on Cycletrader they have to have a low listing price or their bike gets buried by results of dealers that have a low advertised price but then add a bunch of additional fees.

Would it benefit both the OEM and consumer if the OEM switched to a direct to consumer sale process like the Tesla does? Tesla has a lot of control over their prices and bigger margins but they can also drop the prices like crazy to spur demand.

its their world we just live in it.

2 years ago I bought a CRF110 for the kids.  i went in there educated and set with a max price i was willing to pay.  a co worker had the same idea we compared and i came out $500 cheaper than he did.  He felt the dealership really took care of him etc...  $500 isnt a huge amount but considering it was a 110 there wasnt a whole lot of meat on the bone anyway lol

we need (if there isn't already) a true car type system for bikes.  see what bikes are selling for in your area and others.

If I'm a dealer and two guys are in front of me offering the same amount of money on the same bike. One has cash and one is financing I'm selling to the guy who is financing all day long.

Can you explain this to me? I am one of these “cash talks” guys and I would like to learn what I’m doing wrong lol.
