When I stumble across your posts, I cannot help but read them in Boomhauer's voice. Thanks for the stories
Lots of good info here. Thanks guys
It has been happening across multiple platforms and multiple bar brands/bends. Right now im on a stock 24 kx450 but previously a 21 yz250 with protaper evo sx race (my preferred bar) and soft compound full diamond grips. But, like i said, this has been many years now
Then just get surgery. Ain't no time to waste trying to go around the problem.

I’m sure it’s been said but I can’t stress enough how important it is to try diffrent grips. If I run renthal softs, my hands are toast in 3 laps, mediums and I can suddenly do a 20min moto. It’s really worth while to experiment and see what actually works for you.
A few years ago I was waking up in the morning and my fingers were numb and tingling. I went to see the DR and did a test ($500 out of pocket not covered by insurance) on both hands and he claimed I had carpel tunnel on both hands even though only 1 was happening. He wanted me to do surgery on both. My fear is you loose strength and grip getting the surgery.
I posted about it and (can’t remember his name) a guy who's wife worked in a DR office he suggested not getting the surgery but to get a injection into the area. Its been 3 years and occasionally I can slightly feel it but I still have full strength.
so did you get the shot or surgery?
Had carpel surgery on left wrists in May and doing the right one in December. Left was terrible. Swelled up every night brace or not and literally went numb in 2-3 laps on track. Surgery worked well and. not too many issues moving fwd. Especially when I ditched the lock ons and went back to Renthal glue on grips. Night and day difference.
FYI the average person that has carpal tunnel surgery ends up with a stronger grip at 6 months than they had before the surgery. I definitely lost some grip, I'm at 2 months currently, but when they tested my grip at 4 weeks after my right arm surgery it was already higher than the average man my age. It was on a hydraulic tester, average 38 year old man is 55psi, I was at high 70's on my right and low 70's on my left (was 2 weeks after left arm surgery). So even though you loose a bit it's a short term problem, and us dirt bikers are probably above average grip strength anyway.
I had bad tingling/numbness in both hands while I was riding (and BAD while sleeping) for a few years, diagnosed as Carpal Tunnel in late 2019, and doctors confirmed by running some tests on the nerves in my neck.
I had the surgery on both wrists in early 2020 at 29 years old. I wish I would have done it sooner, best thing I ever did. I had one wrist done then the other done 2 weeks later. 2 weeks after second wrist I was on a MTB.
I experienced no loss in grip strength, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering.
Shot
Thats the first time I have heard of grip strength returning since they cut out the ligament .
Just did a quick search and found there is a new procedure with no cutting required.

The brand is Med Spec (medical specialties). I actually saw them on Amazon cheap. Just have to get the right size and R L braces
I had the regular old surgery and was told the above by my doctor who's been a hand/wrist specialist since the early 80's.
This is a study from 1989:
Analysis of pinch and grip strength after carpal tunnel release
H Gellman et al. J Hand Surg Am. 1989 Sep.
This study evaluates the time required for grip and pinch strength to return to preoperative levels after carpal tunnel release. Grip strength was 28% of preoperative level at 3 weeks; 73% by 6 weeks, and returned to the preoperative level by 3 months. At 6 months grip strength was found to increase to 116%. Pinch strength returned sooner being 74% of preoperative level at 3 weeks and 96% by 6 weeks. By 3 months an increase to 108% was seen and at 6 months an increase to 126% of preoperative levels was found. This data should prove useful in predicting when patients may be able to return to their previous level of occupational-related activity.
Here's one from 2005:
Changes of grip and pinch strength after carpal tunnel release Marek Bednarski et al. Chir Narzadow Ruchu Ortop Pol. 2005.
Results: All grips and pinches improved significantly within first year after surgery with respect to preoperative values. Mean total grip strength increased at 3 months to 109%, at 6 months to 123% and at 12 months to 138%. Statistically significant difference was noted at 6 and 12 months. Mean value of two-point pinch was at 3 months of 117% preoperative value, at 3 months of 131% and at 12 months of 145%. Statistically significant difference was noted at 12 months. Mean value of three-point pinch was at 3 months of 114% preoperative value, at 6 months of 130% and at 12 months of 144%. Statistically significant difference was noted at 6 and 12 months. Mean value of key-pinch strength was at 3 months of 105% preoperative value, at 6 months of 117% and at 12 months of 145%. Statistically significant difference was noted at 6 and 12 months. Subjective evaluation of dexterity of the hand by functional part of Levine questionnaire revealed statistically significant improvement in all four post-operative examinations.
I was in Thursday for numbness in my hands and arms. They took X-rays of my neck, this is the result. I don't speak medical jargon but from what I can figure it says suck it up you're old ?
FINDINGS/IMPRESSION: Cervical vertebral bodies are normal in height. There is mild C5 on C6 retrolisthesis. No fracture is identified. There are mild-to-moderate multilevel degenerative changes. No significant soft tissue abnormality. Oblique view demonstrates mild left C4-C5 neural foraminal narrowing.
Change bar width.
Change bar bends and/or angle/rake.
Change angle of brake/clutch levers.
Change grip diameter.
These are easy to try changes before you go the surgery route.
