I just finished watching the MXoN Qualifying Races and holy cow what a difference between this broadcast and the pathetic sh@tshow the US SMX broadcasts have become.
Some notes:
The MXoN broadcast seems to use the necessary 7 or 8 cameras on the ground that actually follow the race fully around the track. Beautiful FULL SCREEN coverage of the riders, properly framed, railing turns, hitting jumps, working the ruts, showing body positioning, suspension action, etc., and most importantly, showing the RACING!!
They (thankfully) have very minimal use of their split-screen, and almost zero useless Inserts of a guy in the pits getting ready for the next race, or on a stationary bike, or someone giving yet another pointless interview with the usual "we found something this week" meaningless drivel.
No overuse of drone shots! And when they do occasionally use a drone shot, it’s for a few corners and they're not from the effing Goodyear blimp!!
The commentators, (Malin and JT), focus on the RACING! (zero pointless babbling)!
All of the above works to elevate the race as the most important thing on the screen! (should be no-d'uh, right?). You actually watch and follow the racing with no “clutter”. This is something the US broadcasts have completely forgotten. It was a pleasure to watch and much more relaxing, (instead of me constantly cursing at my TV and wanting to throw my remote through a friggin’ wall).
So, what do we now get in the US?
A clown-show broadcast produced by Captain Blondo Dipshit that has maybe 2 or 3 cameras on the ground, showing the same shot of the riders going by the mechanics area, and one or two corners in the back, with the other 90% of the race covered by crappy, low-rez, mostly long-distance drone shots from orbit.
Overused ridiculous split-screen views of two "ant shows" of indiscernible rider's, lazily left on for lap after lap!!, (sometimes with both views showing the same goddam section of the track!!). We've seen this pathetic split-screen laziness used for up to 10 minutes of a 20-minute race!!! Way to go A-hole!
Replays of the start, from multiple angles, in agonizing, time-consuming, slow-mo, one lap into the race!! All while Timing and Scoring is showing that passes are being made! Passes that of course we don't get to see!!!, (no replays, or even mentioned later by the crew!). Passing is getting more and more rare in “Start-Cross”, and you can’t even be bothered to show the measly few we get? Unbelievable!
Here’s a good one,... Let’s interrupt AN ACTUAL RACE, to see a crash (in multiple angles) from a race from two weeks ago!! Or show a guy riding by himself for TWO EFFING LAPs, while again, we [the viewers] can see riders closing in on one another through Timing and Scoring! Lame!!
And lastly, one of my personal favorites, we finally have an awesome on-screen 3-way battle going, and it immediately gets broken into a split-screen with a guy riding by himself in 9th place in the top screen, and the 3-way battle shrunk down below. What’s the thinking here blunder-boy? Diminish the action and piss off the viewers? Well congratulations douchebag! Mission accomplished!
For the love of god, someone please retire this guy and make the needed changes. It should not be that hard!
ITs been years like that.
I can’t believe you wrote all that
I won’t bash the US broadcast in this thread because I’ve done it plenty. Paul and JT are very good and I really enjoy the broadcast. One glaringly obvious difference is that as a listener, amateur rider, and fan I really appreciate it when I’m not treated as a complete dolt. It’s a pleasant change.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants to throw the remote at the wall sometimes.

My favorites are announcers screaming when someone is about to be passed or got passed, a rider made a small mistake and got slightly out of control. Also love the infamous “inside/outside” quip that Stew has now picked up on from RC. I am now rewatching Ironman from this year and I’ve got it muted just so I can watch it without throwing a remote. 🤦🏼♂️
You can tell which one is made for network tv and which one is for subscription only
but for SMX outside US viewers its for subscription only too
SMX broadcast always seems to dumb it down to much and it's more about "talking points of the week" then to comment the racing and too many
"I talked to" segements. They should keep that for before or after the race not during the racing.
Personally I felt it lost a few things compared to Peacock...
Mid-Race:
Wil: I spoke to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and they told that they had a great week and worked on the time change adapting before flying to the UK. They said AP has really been focused on his riding this week and is feeling really strong coming off of SMX. They also told me that AP is focused on his diet being overseas and has brought a cooler of food to the track with him! I spoke to Aaron about this and he told me he wants to work on better second Moto performance from last year and feels this could be the key to unlock his potential.
RC: Tomac is going inside/outside looking for a line on Herlings, this could be a real meeting of the Mayans.
Bondo: Let's show Chase getting landed on in Las Vegas and about how Tomac is here instead of Chase. Then lets cut to a split screen interview with Eli while Eli is right behind Herlings talking about the short notice MXdN invite. (Completely misses Herlings passing Roczen while doing this.)
Bondo: Great job folks, what a phenomenal broadcast today, y'all are rockstars and leaders in the industry!
HAHAHAHA so true. I like jason weigandt, but the other guys are always talking these useless stuff.
I remember finding weird to watch european sports because of the broadcast (im from south america). I was used to american stuff "because of internet". Europeans always sounded more quiet and serious and focused, It took sometime for me to understand tbh...but Now that i have access to european sports, jeeez its so much better. Its focused ON THE SPORT, not on the enterteiment (can I put it that way?).
I know thats "bad for business" in this modern crazy megalomaniac world, but eh, fully agree mate
Yep, those of us who watch MXGP and non-US motorsports already know all this.
The US broadcast does nothing to promote the sport as a sport.
You haven't watched a gp I hear.
I watch both, I don't miss a national but it would be a wet dream to have the same coverage of the nationals as of the gp's as some tracks and events of the gp's are so shitty it hurts
AMEN to the OP. It is the decision making and absolute shit show of left not having a clue what right is doing. We have had the same show going on 20+ years now and it sucks balls.
OP nailed it with “it was a pleasure to watch and much more relaxing”.
It’s like going to see a great movie vs a TikTok algo hacking open my brain with jingles and shiny objects, and then jamming garbage into it at warp speed.
100% agree with OP, less is more in this case, and the announcers talk to the viewers like they have a clue about the sport.
Curious what JT thinks between the 2. I would bet they are way less pressured on the GP side. Feels like they over complicate it here! Ugh, doubt it will change for the US.
I didn't read that whole essay, but I don't agree. The cameras kept shaking for some reason. They rarely were on a good battle. The drone was poorly piloted. Personally I love as much drone as possible, especially on a track where line selection is so crucial. The drone helps yo see those different choices and the immediate effect and differences.
No on the ground reporting to get stories that are happening behind the scenes. The best that had was a guy running around the pits live asking team members to go and get the riders. Seemed unprofessional. It made me appreciate the NBC broadcast.
😂😂😂
I’ve been a paying subscriber every since Villo went over and it’s worth every damn penny IMO!! The whole setup is night and day difference compared to what we have!! They actually cover the race and the actual battles going on that we always seem to miss in our series weekly!! Paul is the best in the business and does it alone most of the time!! I called into the pulp show one nite and asked them why our coverage missed soo much of the racing and weegie didnt want to hear it!! He ,asked me how they could not miss any key parts of race and I told him simply Just go watch a round one weekend!!
Pit Row
Please post more, you're funny.
Man, I was just saying the opposite. Hopefully it was just my service but it looked like shit and I much prefer the feed we get from smx. Going to watch at my brother's house who has better Internet and hope it's a lot better.
Great post!!! I couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said
Yeah, I reckon the US MX/SX coverage will get worse if anything - that's certainly the way it's been tracking over the last 20 years. You watch races from the early 2000s and they don't have all the 'was talking to so and so fucktard early today' stuff. Plus, apart from Ralph, the announcers were better also. Weege on SX is definitely an improvement though.
You think that’s good.. watch a motogp broadcast. Pure, educated, professional, and unadulterated racing coverage. Clean and effective.
And hey, if the people that produce Disney on ice and monster trucks continue to run sx I’m sure they’ll continue to keep it a clown show.
You forgot showing Jett getting ready for Moto2 during Moto1, speaking and showing videos and interviews of Haiden and why he's not here, and RC butchering the riders names
Can't say I missed Will yesterday and her 10 "I talked to"-stories 😂
MXGP-TV has less people talking, but sometimes less is more!
Night and day difference between the two broadcasts and the USA (SMX) has plenty room for improvement.
With that said, I'm just happy that we ( us international dudes) are able to subscribe to watch SX and the US outdoors.
I'm over bitching about everything. I try to be happy and appreciate what we got.
maybe malin to ama , paul shut the door on youre way out pal 🙂
my biggest bug bare with ama, to many chefs, we simply dont need 4-6 people having their say, they either repeat one another,or say any ol bollocks.
The finger needs to be pointed at the producers.
bring back langston and another
hey guys i know we just started the race and watched everyone do a few laps, but it looks like top 3 are about to battle for the lead so lets cut to the yamaha track map and miss every pass! 🤦🏽
you would think that after YEARS of doing this bondo would have hashed out any and all issues. its almost like he goes into every weekend looking for new ways to fuck up the broadcast. either he doesnt care about sucking at his job, or he still after all of these years has no idea wtf he is doing. i truly cant tell
Who is Bondo and what's his job?
Watching them show the track map after already watching 2 hours of racing on the actual track blows my mind.
