I was excited to see Jett Lawrence race the MX1 (MXGP) class but saw this article saying he is moving to MX3: https://mx1onboard.com/mxon-jett-lawrence-to-race-in-open-class/. Is this true?

RacerX says he is MX1 still: https://racerxonline.com/2024/10/03/2024-motocross-of-nations-final-entry-list, but I saw an instagram post with Jett wearing #6.

What would be the reason for the class change?

I don't think it's a fitness issue as to why Jett is going OPEN. Their strategy may bank on Jett winning the Open/MXGP race. Then giving Webster the first gate pick in the Open/mx2 race. With Jett trying to pull or push Webster up the field as far as possible before going for the win.

Jett's fast enough that they can toy with tactics like that.

Seems weird to me because I don't think Hunter can win MX1 but I think he could win MX3 so why not optimize it for each of them to win? Because Jett will probably win both motos anyways, so let Hunter win the MX2+MX3 moto.

This is what JT said during the rider presentation.

Jett is fresher, bounces back quicker. Hunter will ride better having a longer recovery time tthat racing moto 1 and 3 gives.

mx3 guys got back to back motos, going off this season , hunter 2nd motos fitness wise been killing him , Jett other hand can recover quicker & still perform highly off back to backs

Not just about winning. It’s about having the lowest 5 scores you can.

Australia trying to cherry pick moto wins with Jett....I'm not even surprised. Here's all the World Class riders Jett is dodging so he doesn't have to race them more than once...

Avoiding these Top MXGP riders: Febvre, Roczen, Seewer, Prado, Tomac, Gajser, Herlings

Main MX3 competition: Nagl, Renaux, Plessinger, Geerts, Coldenhoff

Hell ya they are dodging. They are trying to win this whole thing, not measure pecker size. Gonna help his team in the second race, then drop dong in the final race.

Jett is for sure going to babysit Webster in that open/mx2 race. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jett pull Webster up to forth before probably getting 2nd.

I'm surprised they didn't go this way:

MX1 - Jett - Strongest rider in the strongest class

MX2 - Hunter - Was just riding a 250 less than a year ago

MX3/Open - Webster - has been riding a 450 and competition won't be as steep (theoretically)

Could have even seen Jett on a 250

We all understand team tactics and getting the win. But this is Jett dodging the best competition. They don't need to do this..

This was the logical adjustment..  Jett would absolutely put in better moto scores against the MX1 guys.  Now they leave Hunter in the lions den of the worlds best.  And he’s not Jett…

It's the best strategy to get the overall victory. That's all that matters.

Jett dodging... Give me a break.

Call it what you want. But why else would they do it this way? Because its easier competition.

Maybe they're trying to give Webster the best shot at a good result in moto 2.
Realistically, his moto 1 will be the drop score. So might as well put him outside on the gate and give hunter the inside and a good shot at a top 3 that moto (most teams will probably put their MX2 rider inside, so Hunter should easily have a good start).

Moto 2 they put Webster inside knowing that Jett can make it through the pack with no mxgp riders to deal with. Jett can easily win moto 2 from the outside. Hunter maybe couldn't make it all the way to the top if he starts 12th.

In moto 3 it doesn't matter who rides which class

He’s not dodging, but better strategy? Seems like Jett would most likely win MX1 and Hunter would do better in the open class than MX1. Doesn’t seem like a better strategy.

He’s already beaten all those guys at one point in his four MXoN motos to date.

Ok, then it's ***The best strategy they came up with after much internal deliberation. They did not check with VitalMX to make sure everyone is ok with it.

I'm just saying that suggesting Jett is dodging anyone is ridiculous.

We really need one good moto from Webster and this seems like the best chance.
