Have had every gen of tech 10. Great boots and no complaints. Tried on Gaerne sg22's today and was very impressed with comfort.

Anyone made that switch or at least have some feedback on the 22's?

I have really flat, wide feet and I thought they were less restrictive feeling than the tech 10.

What’s up with the white/grey colorway? Gaerne needs to ditch that already and go back to the white/black.

Comfort is personal and will vary person to person. The Gaernes will last much longer and are a higher quality boot

Id like to try the 22 but im afraid to drop that much coin and dislike them. I was a die hard SG10 user, decided to get a pair of 12's and i hate them. They kill my feet, they feel like im standing on concrete for hours barefoot. The ankle support is excellent, typical Gaerne, and the boots last forever but my god they are uncomfortable. I cant decide whether i should get another pair of 10's or 22's

I’ve got a wide foot, pretty much always 4E when buying shoes.  I’m on my third pair of SG12’s and have never had complaints, tried on a pair of 22’s today and struggled to not leave with them.  The toe box feels a touch wider than the 12 which was nice and the interior comfort felt like slippers.  I’ll definitely have a pair for next season and demote my 12’s to woods duty.

I went from 10’s to 22’s this year and rode years in 12’s. The fit and finish and durability of the 10’s are terrible im really shocked you don’t see more complaints about them. Mine were falling apart in 20-30 hours swore I’ll never buy a pair again. Loved my 12’s but always thought on the outside of my pinky toe the boot would always rub Bought some 22’s and love them. Toe box is much wider and comfort is next level a boot I can put on in the morning and wear all day with no issues. You don’t even notice the weight of them compared to a 10 excellent boots and truly shocked you don’t see more people riding with them. I had 4 years on my 12’s before I sold them and they still looked new was over 150 hours of ride time with titanium pegs and original soles

My SG 22's should be here tomorrow. I am over A-Stars lack of durability, my Raptor pegs ate up my tech 10's in less than 20 hours.

Was riding in GX1 for a few seasons. Destroyed my ankle a few weeks ago. The SG-22 I just got feel very nice. Wide enough toe box and lots of ankle support.

I was also a die hard SG10 fan back in the day. Never able to get along with the 11 or 12 though, so I've been on Tech 10s for a while.

Picked up a pair of 22s a few months back when Bobs had a sale. They are definitely comfortable for my feet, but I couldn't get over how tall and heavy they are. Sticking with Alpinestar for the foreseeable future.

One thing I did notice immediately when jumping back and forth between them was how much more peg feeling I had in the Alpinestars. Might be crazy, but I feel like I can ride on the balls of my feet easier than the Gaernes. Sole life sucks though.

Have 10ish hours on new SG-22's with no complaints , feeI wider than my Sg-12's and less stiff out of the box . I  would suggest tightening the screws that hold the buckles on after a few hours , mine were all loose

Tech 10s have cutouts or slits in that part of the boot to enhance peg feel.

Half the price of tech 10s goes toward funding vital ads and giving the pros enough free boots to wear a new pair every race.

Gaerne is a lower volume manufacturer that makes boots in Italy and has a reasonable marketing budget. It’s a better company making a better product.

Peg feel alone makes the Tech 10 a absolute winner for me. Support between the two is equal and durability the SG22 wins. But my rating goes 1: support as i have shot ankles 2: peg feel 3:durability. Ill gladly keep buying the Tech 10's at a faster rate just for the extra feel i get from the boots. I gain so much bike control vs the plank feeling of the sg22 soles.

For durability and quality, Gaerne. For peg feel and weight, Astars. Choose which one you need the most.

Comfortability is subjective. Why not Tech7s? Cheaper and the most comfortable boot on the market IMO.

Tech 10's are made in Croatia.  You might want to look where that is.

Just like head shape effects your helmet choice, foot shape plays into which boot works for me.  I have narrow feet and the one time I bought Gaerne boots it was pretty clear they aren't a good match for narrow feet. For me, they also were a hard break-in and felt like I was riding in a rigid cast.  Barely broke them in and decided to give up on them.  T10s feel better but wear out kinda quick.

Sidi's aren't an option in the original question but due to my narrow foot , I've been sticking with Sidis and they work well for me.  The easily replaceable sole held on by screws is no doubt a bonus.

I know many people are huge fans of the Tech 7 for how comfortable they are but I think the comfort comes at the cost of protection and support. You can take a Tech 7 and crush it in your hand like a sneaker.

😂

No. But it’s about as close as you can get to being in Italy. But you’re inferring tech 10’s are made in china or something which they certainly aren’t. Also I’m not sure how Gaerne is “a better company”. They make a fantastic product no doubt and if your primary concern is having a boot last forever then that’s probably the best choice for you. But to also infer that astars is not a good company is quite a stretch. There simply isn’t another company in our sport or probably any sport that is absolutely driven to push for safer products to protect athletes. The owner is about as fanatical as it gets and probably spends FAR more money than is fiscally responsible to develop these products. Their tech air line is pushing the industry in a direction we only dreamed about just a few years ago. I know it’s cool to shit on them because they are also extremely successful but anyone who has been close at all to them as a company knows that drive to have more protective and better performing products runs from the top to the very bottom and I admire that.

What I would pay for a boot that came in truly wide sizes.... have been wearing sg12 based on previous discussions on this and have pretty much hated them since I got them. Don't seem that wide to me and so stiff that usual methods of making a little extra room haven't helped. It's more the mid foot area that is tight for me, toes are fine. Keep hoping they'll break in and be alright but am over it and ready to get something else if I can be convinced there's a better option out there.

You probably should know the difference between infer and imply before making accusations.

Gaerne all day. Been riding on and off for over 30 years and I’ve never had a pair of boots last like them. They are comfortable cool and tough. Had multiple tech 10’s.  They look cool but that’s about it. I’m in Texas and they are super hot also. The soles wear out so fast I can’t justify the price for the look.

If you are rich and love style and look get the tech 10’s. If you want the most for your buck get a pair of gaernes.

Sg22s all the way. Highest quality boot in the biz. The 22s are so comfy. Astars are trash and not just the boots.  They could slap an astar badge on a turd and the fan boys would flock

Can anyone speak to the ankle support in the 22? I read some reviews that it wasn’t great? I was a gaerne guy for years with the sg10 and 12 but went to the tech 10 because for me the ankle support and wider toe box was better. Yes gaerne was superior in durability but I was willing to make the trade off for my horrible ankles.

I have heard Forma runs really wide. They are not easy to find in the US though. The Sidi Crossair is supposed to be wide too in the forefoot.

Gaerne claimed weight on the 22 is 3.5 lbs lighter than Astars claimed weight on the tech 10. Weird
