So, its no secret that most companies are tailoring their gear lines toward the ultra fit, and small sized body types with their super tight fit. I'm curious to know what the older vet guys are wearing that have a little more to love these days. I like pants with stretch material in the crotch but im not loyal to any brand. I just want something that fits good, and with the lack of cycle shops these days, trying stuff on is tough and so is sending things back to RM a few times.

I found that FXR fits me well. I'm 5'10 230lbs. I have to buy a 2XL jersey as I have larger chest/shoulders/back, so the sleeves I typically have to roll up. Pants I wear a 36 and I could almost go to a 34 if I stopped the Oktoberfest beers.😂

I find a pant and jersey combo that I like and order one size bigger pants than normal. Still wear same size jersey as I do shirts.

TLD GP doesn’t have the super duper italian male model tight fit! I’m around your size and I wear 36 pant and 2XL jersey and it’s very comfortable for me!

If you think moto gear is out of hand try cycling gear, I’m a fairly fit guy that spends too much time in the gym in my recent retirement from the military and admittedly not typical cyclist body type but the 4XL jerseys are too tight for me… it’s ridiculous!

Fasthouse for me. It runs true to size, not tight but certainly not loose (you want the Grindhouse and Speed Style version, as the Elrod gear is slim fit). And the quality is top notch, ULTRA durable.

4xl is too tight? What is your height / weight? Also what brand? Fit varies widely in cycling gear

Most of it is designed to fit skin tight so maybe he just doesn’t like that feeling. 4x is enormous

The kinetic mesh line is still really good fit and value for us out of shape vet guys

I've found that Moose gear fits similar to the way my regular pants fit.  I normally wear a 40 or 42 in regular/street /work pants and I got a 42 to be safe in the Moose and I'm pretty sure the 40 would be fine.Jerseys similar, I wear a 2-Xl or 3XL T shirt or shirt. and I fit in the 3XL Moose jersey well.   I am 6'9" tall and 250-300 pounds depending on how often I am out on my ebike or working on my trails.  I sell Thor and Moose as well as some other brands, I got some Thor gear first. But it was way too snug at the time. a 42 and 3XL in the Thor Pulse was a different world VS the Moose. I did not really want to be in the Moose stuff, as kids we would always think of the moose stuff as being made for Off road  OR  big , old fat guys. And I am not ready to admit that is me yet!!  But after getting some Moose for an off road guy  and them loving it  compared to some of the Thor they tried on. I got that set for myself and found it to be really nice stuff for the price. After I tried it out I got some MTB stuff that was on closeout and I'm MR moose now. The New Thor Launchmode is supposed to fit much better than the Pulse, and fit tru to size. I have not tried any on myself yet. But its defiantly different and looks like it should fit better than the Pulse did. Still a tighter fit than the Moose stuff though.

The Moose MTB jersey fits like it should in a 3XL.   I got a 5XL MX  jersey just to see how big they were, and also to have the biggest size jersey available for a customer to try if needed. And even on my it is very very big. Like I could almost fit 2 of me in it.

O'neal!! The Element gear may be basic, but the fit is perfect.

Yup

Also, due to all my off-road racing and ADV riding, I’ve got quite a few pair of Scout SE pants that have pockets (holds my wallet and iPhone Max) and they have front & back zippered vents…& they’re a bit thicker/tougher than most Moto pants…I’ve been wearing them at the track a bit lately, too. Scout SE pants on sale for $125 and Scout GP on sale for $81 at https://troyleedesigns.com/collections/moto-mens-pants

They fit like normal pants and aren’t the skinny fit that some gear seems to be nowadays.

4x being too tight is wild. Dude is being pretty loose with the "fairly fit" I presume.

Fairly fit means different things to different people. But yeah, if 4xl is skin tight you are 100% overweight

I took 10 years off and got back into it last year, ordered a set of TLD gp pro air gear, and went 34 instead of my former 32 (my old fox 32 pants were a bit snug but still fit) and the 34s were so loose I could pull them right off ratcheted all the way in. Swapped for 32s and they fit but were extra stretchy.

Ordered a extra set of closeout Astars gear, 32 pants were impossibly small and it was all I could do to get 1 click on the belt, couldn't zip the pants at all.

Shredded my TLD air gear a couple of weeks ago in a crash, ordered new non vented GP pro gear, jersey is slightly more snug and 32 pants are way tighter, can barely get 2 clicks on the belt and struggle to zip them. I'm so fuckin' lost on gear sizing.

Another TLD GP recommendation. I’m 5’11 220 and the GP stuff has been great for me. Like another member said the pockets are really nice and fit my iPhone max no problem.

I usually wear Vohler jerseys that are “club fit” and i wear XL and they fit just right tight but not too tight! I decided to  try Neopro because the price is right and they get you with that ridiculous “race fit” nonsense so i went to 4XL thinking it would be snug but not trying to set a speed record tight. Oh no, it was ridiculous how tight it was, I could barely get my arms through the sleeves and I was embarrassed just looking in the mirror!

You don’t have to get personal about how I described myself as it just shows how small and insecure of a person you are … and i certainly don’t have to justify how “fit” I am to you or anyone else, hope you find some gear that fits you!

TLD GP gear is the way to go for what the OP is looking for.  Plenty of room in the crotch and legs.  I typically wear size 36 in jeans and have for +30 years.  I'm 5-11, 200 lbs with muscular build with bigger quads from weight lifting.  The TLD GP gear fit me perfect even with knee braces.  With knee pads, I could easily wear a size 34.  Plenty of room in the legs and crotch area.  I recently changed from the TLD GP to TLD SE Pro gear and went down to a size 34 waist for the pants, and they fit great.  I always XL jersey.  They fit me perfect.

The TLD GP will have more room in the waist, crotch, and legs.  True to size if not slightly big.

I've had multiple sets of FXR gear. Loved the fit, it was durable, and came clean in the wash every time. I switched this year to Canvas. I really like it. The fit is super comfortable, better than the FXR for me personally. Only complaint I have is it has been stained since the first ride and would not come clean. I'll get a new set of gear this winter, but I'm not sure what direction I'll go.

Nothing personal, I just like to point out how normalized it is for us as Americans to see people who are unhealthy or obese. These comments about "Italian models" I find funny. Do you think there's any difference between us and Europeans? Other than our diet and lifestyle? Americans need larger sizes because we are too fat as a whole. Nothing to do with genetics. Diet, cycling or the gym will do more than making clothes for people who weigh too much. Just my two cents, no personal judgement towards anyone intended

We can argue all day over whether OP is wrong with his shirt sizing (obviously Yes). But the real sizing conspiracy needs to be addressed!  Why does the AMA require the riders to wear GIANT hats for media photos? How much extra money does this take from the privateers and redistribute to DC?

I would think it would be the sponsors that require them to wear THEIR hat, not AMA or MX Sports.

OK Sure, the sponsors want their riders to look like they have micro heads............that makes total sense......
