Hopefully the feeling in his arms and legs signal good things for the actual spinal cord. Never like to hear of any potential SCIs.

Reminds me of Nelson's accident at Unadilla. Silly little crash in a corner that 99.9% of the time you would pop right back up.

Get well soon Liam.

My first thought, similar to Nelson's crash. Hoping for the best outcome for Liam.

… track workers stood there and just looked at Everts instead of getting the bike off of him. I sure hope he does not have burns from the exhaust.

Red Cross flagger was waving it down track, past Liam’s crash instead of in front of it.

It appears that the AMA is not the only racing organization that has unqualified and dangerous flag personnel.

There were also riders on the track that should have never been allowed to be out there, and I’m not only talking about the three Chinese riders…

Sad to hear this and sending prayers and strength to Liam and his family.

Yea, I saw in MX1 some of the dudes got lapped like 6 times. Crazy...this is a world championship and they sticking in C class riders to fill some gates.

Good chance that the GP guys are just like we are in Supercross. When I flag Supercross I am expressly forbidden to enter the track. There are no exceptions.

Could not even imagine the stress of an injury like that and then having to make life changing decisions in a hospital you know nothing about and you can’t even understand what anyone is telling you.  Hope it all went well and the right procedure was done.

I remember Doug Henry’s injury in Budd’s and if his wife had not put the brakes on the Maryland surgeons he would have never rode again.

From the KTM press release it sounds like someone helped a lot with translations etc

The surgeons were confident he will make a full recovery and the whole Red Bull KTM team would like to thank Samantha Liu for her excellent help and assistance.

I’ve never flagged a pro race, so I am admittedly unfamiliar with all the ins and outs. That said, if I’m flagging a race and I see a rider obviously injured and trapped under their bike, I’m at least flipping the bike off, and they can put their rule where the sun doesn’t shine.

In the many years of flagging West Coast SX, the protocol changed a few times. In the beginning you were allowed to be up on jumps, be on the track to direct riders which side was clear and help remove bikes. As television and liability became larger, no on track flaggers, no removing bikes from the track and be as invisible to the camera as possible. Being old school, with the current restrictions, flaggers hands are tied to really being able to do a proper job. There are many very competent flaggers but not all are chosen on race day.

I think i read somewhere that you‘re responsible for damages if you help in China. So people just stand there instead of helping.

I would guess that if you can pay for it, it’s top notch.

“Good Samaritan Rule”——some (a minority) U.S. states have the same rule of law.

...gotta put the promoter's kid on the gate , they even earned World Championship points with only 19 MX2 and 21 MXGP riders.

Unfortunately, they crashed into real MX2 guys and caused some trouble....

Fuck, If I was only Chinese, I could have gotten my first MXGP points this year as a vet rider...🤪

Very glad to hear he will be able to fully recover.

Having a bunch  of riders that are so much slower than the field that it causes a serious safety risk is nothing new at fly away GPs. It has happened for as long as we have been going to these markets and clearly is intended to be this way, since after 10yrs of doing this, there was ample time to fix this issue. Guess what , MX is not big enough to have a full gate in Thailand, after 10yrs of pretending it is, I dont think anyone is buying it.

On pulp they sometimes joke about having sharks or alligators on the track for extra tension. It should be a joke but Mxpg has been actively doing this for years. These guys are so far of the pace, they are not riders in the race, they are more like mobile obstacles. The pinnacle of Motocross racing should not be 10guys riding around a shitty track with some hobbyists thrown in for context.
