Was wondering if anyone heard the official word on this?

Results are showing him 3rd.  The kid was amazing to watch.

Found this vid on YT.

I hope he wasn’t penalized for that, he wasn’t the only rider to do it was he?  I thought he might get a stern talking to after stepping off his bike ala ghost ride (except on flat ground) when I was watching, though.

Edit to add that a DQ means he wouldn’t have had even 3rd place. Penalty perhaps, but not a DQ.

They just said the penalty was 2 positions at the press conference.  Such bullshit!

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Everyone at my house said that was the best part about watching the show. These aren’t KTM JR’s. These are the top kids in the country. I bet that is why they didn’t have a triple.
Was this the same person who cut down the whoops to only nine last year?

I'd assume something was said to them after his practice jumps over it. I'm sure more details will come out soon.

Before the race they were told not to jump it. The kid he was battling with that got second was also doing it in qualifying. If I remember correctly, I’m pretty sure Carter made the pass for the lead by jumping it so it only makes sense to dock him if the rules were to not  jump it.

Ask anyone and the 65s hitting the big jumps was the best part of the race. Super lame to even say they cant jump it in the first place when they were hitting other massive jumps on the track. No fun police strike again.

wtf is wrong with all you yoyos bitching about the penalty?

they were told not to jump it.

they jumped it. they were penalized.

maybe the people in charge did not want an 11 year old kid wadding up on a big double that would not be forgiving if they did not make it,

in addition they probably wanted to avoid other riders being pressured to do it.

looks like sound reasoning to me.

again, they were told not to do it.

of course those two will probably sign a merchandise deal and start a podcast talking about how stupid rules are and get a million followers.

Everybody watching including sponsors etc...saw the kid win, i doubt him being penalized 2 positions makes any difference

I could have sworn that another rider did that jump earlier in the race, but maybe it was Gray doing it then also. It does seem odd to penalize a rider for doing any obstacle that doesn’t cut the track, involve ignoring safety flags, or anything like that. Not that I would have wanted to watch one of my kids trying that jump, but it just seems like something that shouldn’t be regulated like that. If you don’t want them to jump it, use some of the track barriers just before the jump to create a chicane to slow them down so they can’t clear it. Problem solved.

It was amazing to see it, but if I’d witnessed a kid under 12 come up short on live TV and possibly ruin the rest of his life Id have questioned the organizers for letting it happen.

They probably never imagined 65 riders would do it, when they saw they did it, they told them not to. The kid did it, he got a penalty for not following the rules

It’s only a spectacle until some young kid ends up in hospital

I think most are in the thinking that the foundation of the sport is all about progression, taking risks and pressure.   In all honesty IMO if they were that worried about safety they should've just rerouted them around that jump if they didn't want any of them jumping it.  Years ago back during  the morning amateur SX races they would put a bump in front of triples from keeping us from jumping them. Seemed to work well.

If you don’t want kids doing jumps, don’t put them on a supercross track?
