This season has to be seen as nothing short of a disaster. He came into the outdoors as the favorite to win it all and its been bad. Its actually been a lot worse than the points show. Hes been given chance after chance to cut the lead and hes blown it with self induced mistakes every time, same thing today. Every single top guy is on the ground or way far back and he has another self induced mistake and blows the whole race. I’m not saying this as a vialle hater, he was who I was rooting for to win it all this year and its been let down after let down. Its mind blowing how many times one guy can shoot himself in his own foot. Could it be the sx champion hangover?

He was seen as the 2 time world champ steady eddy guy who gets good starts and manages the race from the front. This year hes the guy who tips over at the worst times possible to steal defeat from the jaws of victory at every chance. Today he should have been able to close the gap, but of course not… Wtf man.

I think it shows how hard it is to go from SX settings to National settings. He will be better next year.

I had him as the favourite for this title … I have no explanation for these type of performances from a 2 time world champ . Baffling .

What would you call it when a two time world champion all of a sudden starting to ride like a rookie?

Seems like alot of guys suffer a let down outdoors after winning SX title….I though for sure he would slowly pull away outdoors but not happening…

Sorry but what about Vialle screamed favorite? He’s soft and doesn’t have a winner’s mentality. This isn’t the depleted mx2 class anymore.

fyi prado will be similar.

I’m not a mxgp hater either. Some guys just have it and some don’t.

Man he looks SO bad on the bike compared to his normal self. Maybe at Hangtown and Thunder Valley he looked pretty good but the last 3-4 rounds he clearly was fighting the bike in the motos. In moto 1 today he lost over a second to everyone around him in sector 2 because of the rollers.

Not an excuse though. It's his job to set the bike up and he's clearly not getting it done.
Good for him that everyone around him is also not really riding to their potential (Shimoda and Kitchen mainly), except for Deegan and Hymas. In a normal season like last year he wouldn't even be top 5 in points

Let's not go all SX championship shit either, it was regional for Pete's sake. Of course Jeremy Martin, Savatgy, or Shimoda would give their left nut for  Vialle's season.

Won the SX title and will finish 2nd or 3rd in the Nationals.

His performance outdoors should be better, but to call this season a disaster is a stretch...

Bike doesn't look settled under braking bumps to me.

Honestly I'm forced to agree with the OP. I think AMA 250s is more competitive but still, he looks (for want of a better word) 'flat' out there, like he was bogging through the rollers... It's weird. Nothing like he was in GPs or the MXDN - and he can't seem to nail down a gift even when it's all but delivered into his lap... Not hating on him either, on the contrary I think most of us are rooting for him and it'd be an unintended insult to suggest he shouldn't be a lot better. I agree he looked like a different rider at Hangtown and Thunder Valley.

His first season was better then this one, he's been underwhelming to say the least.

The bike doesn’t look good and he’s obviously carrying an injury, which makes things difficult, but the mistakes are his to own.

Thats why I’m saying the points dont tell the whole story. Yes hes in 3rd but hes down by 54 points and the way hes gotten down by that 54 points is whats been so bad. He is known as like a justin cooper who gets great starts races from the front and takes advantage of others mistakes.

Yet this year theres been multiple different races where haiden goes down and tom gets out front and then throws it away right at the end. That or like today literally everybody goes down and tom takes himself out and ends up worse than deegan. Hes had it all laid out perfectly for him to take advantage of other riders making mistakes where he could win and close most of the gap to first. Every time those gifts have come though hes taken himself out.

I'm very disappointed in some of deegans top contenders. I feel like they are soft, pulling off and stuff. It seems like Deegan is the only one that wants it and it shows.

Geezzzz, A little bit of a over blown take. He won a fricken Supercross title for goodness sakes. It's not been the best outdoors but it hasn't been that dreadful. And again. He won a MOFO Supercross title. WTF

Sounds a lot like Sexton whining of the last couple of years. Now Sexton is approaching hero status. How fickle we fans are.

Best case scenario for Vialle was Deegan goes out with an injury and he wins the title. Then the asterisk hangers come out and crap on it.

He’ll need to win a round or two for it to be deemed satisfactory. He has pissed away too many opportunities.

I expected a bit more from him but that said even having championships in MX2 he was never the talent of the level of Roczen, Ferrandis and Musquin.

I get that he's the 2 time MX2 champ, but there are no slouches in this class.  I thought Tom would be very strong this year and he has been, but I would not have said he was the clear favorite at the start of the season.  He was in my top 3 and has not disappointed.  There are just too many fast guys out there.

Exactly, you know everything has to be secret squirrel in this sport. But you haven’t noticed how he’s been walking?

Perhaps he isn't, but I really expected him to roll to a title since he does have 2 MX2 titles and the 250 class in the US is essentially considered a developmental class these days - not sure why, since there used to be 125 specialists and no one bagged on them - but he's got a lot more experience and credentials than anyone else in the class and should be head and shoulders above them... on paper.

It has the same feeling as when PC would bring over World Champions for what looked to be easy titles to pad their resume'... but it hasn't happened.

I don't believe Vialle is having a bad season.

I believe Deegan is having a great season!
